Hush, little culver. I'll soon birth thee anew, a sweeting fresh and pure...
~ Rennala upon meeting the Tarnished for the first time.
Come, sweetings, time to be born, anew.
~ Rennala preparing her Scholar Tomes attack.

Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, is a major antagonist and an optional boss in the 2022 dark fantasy action role-playing video game Elden Ring. She is the last queen of Caria and the head of its royal family, the Carian Royal Family.

She was also the ruler of the Academy of Raya Lucaria, which resides in the lands of Liurnia. Rennala is also the mother of three demigod children, Rykard, Radahn, and Ranni, and is the first wife of Radagon. She also had a twin sister named Rellana who abandoned her birthright as a Carian princess.

She was voiced by Mali Harries.

Personality[]

At first glance, Rennala appears to be a gentle individual, acting like a mother to the juvenile scholars of the Academy of Raya Lucaria and treating them as if they were her own offspring. However, in reality, all of this are the result of her growing insanity, though Rennala didn't appear to have become erratic but have rather slowly lost her mind. This growing madness made her turn to the grim practice of reincarnation, in which she will imperfectly reincarnate the juvenile scholars and shows indifference to the consequences that occurred.

All of these are the result of Rennala being greatly heartbroken following the departure of her husband Radagon. She is shown to being completely attached to an amber egg that the latter gave to her as a gift, to which she cherished greatly. In addition, Rennala has a strong love for her daughter Ranni, calling her "My dear daughter" and encouraging her to "Weave her night into being".

Biography[]

In her youth, she used to study at the academy of Raya Lucaria. Her knowledge of lunar magic fascinated the academy and eventually she became the leader of the academy. With her position, she declared house of Caria as a royalty.

Prior to the Shattering, she encountered Radagon and they soon fell in love and married each other. From their marriage, she bore the demigods Radahn, Rykard and Ranni. During their marriage, Radagon gifted her a red wolf and the Great Rune of the Unborn. Radagon eventually left Rennala and married Marika. She was left by herself at the academy.

After Radagon left, the academy rebelled against the royalty, she was under assault by her own students and locked in the grand library. She then desired to clutch the amber egg and rebirth the physical form of her daughter Ranni.

Trivia[]

  • The Remembrance of the Full Moon Queen can be consumed for 20,000 Runes or handed to Enia to obtain either Rennala's Full Moon or the Carian Royal Scepter.
  • Though Rennala is greatly weak and cannot perform magical attacks in the game, she is, however, shown to still have strength in herself and in her magic, unlike her illusionary self, as shown in the manga comic series Elden Ring: the Road to the Erdtree, where she delivered a powerful magical attack on the Tarnished Aseo.
