The Replica of Alberius is a minor antagonist in Dragalia Lost, appearing as the main antagonist of "The Blood That Binds" event. He is an evil clone of Alberius created by Phares as a possible replacement vessel for Xenos, although after the Progenitor is revived, the clone ends up acting of his own accord to assist the Progenitor.
Like his original counterpart, he was voiced by Toshiyuki Morikawa in Japanese and Ian Hanlin in English.
Appearance[]
The Replica of Alberius in terms of appearance is identical to his original counterpart, having long blond hair, green eyes and fair skin, wearing a black jacket, pants and boots as well as some leather belts to fasten them. His sword is different however, due to Alberius's sword Dragalia being shattered by Morsayati and thus wields a replica of it.
Personality[]
Unlike his original counterpart, the clone of Alberius is pessimistic and arrogant, enjoying to make his original counterpart's feats seem lesser and defame him, as well as mocking the Alberian scions when they fail to beat him. He claims that his personality is due to the fact that Alberius himself was similar to him, although this is proven false as the true Alberius was a kindhearted, jovial albeit airheaded man.
However, upon his defeat, the true soul of Alberius takes over the clone and expresses his remorse for putting so much pressure on his descendants to live up to his feats, and is quite friendly and cheerful just like how he was in life.
Biography[]
The Replica of Alberius was created from scraps of the dead Netherwyrm and Alberius's pactwyrm Chthonius after the events of Chapter 10, in which Euden finally ends the Founder King's suffering by killing him, along with some black mana by Phares who was ordered by Xenos to create an extra vessel to manipulate should he fall. However, as their advent was nigh, Xenos asked the prince to discard of the clone, which he did so.
Upon his advent, Xenos decided to use the clone for his own purposes, repairing him with black mana and giving him the power to control and spawn fiends. From there, the replica would begin to terrorise South Alberia with his fiends, although he would remain hidden for most of the time.
The Replica of Alberius serves as the main antagonist of "The Blood That Binds" event, manipulating an army of fiends to attack the Gran Fiore which was en route to Chanzelia, full of refugees from Grams. The siblings manage to defeat the troop, but Valyx notes how coordinated they were and suspects that somebody was controlling them from the shadows. They receive a message from Leonidas, who, noticing the recent fiend attacks that were unbeknownst to him, controlled by the Replica as well, asks of his siblings to group up at the Halidom so they can discuss their course of action.
The siblings all meet up, save for Euden and Zethia who are busy regaining the Greatwyrms' Primal Marks at the Dragon Necropolis. Leonidas realises all the attacks were targeted at places with relation to the siblings, so by gathering all of them here, he hoped to bait out the perpetrator and end them. Aspiring to be just like their ancestor Alberius, the siblings set out the next day and take on the fiend armies. However, thanks to the fog the armies lead a pincer attack and deplete Emile's troops. A mysterious man also arrives, shapeshifting into a dragon and taking out even more soldiers, prompting Leonidas to transform into Mars and attack. However, the man shapeshifts again and swiftly takes out the prince, before revealing himself as "Alberius".
Annoyed by this sudden escalation, Leonidas deals a mortal wound to the clone, only for him to instantly heal from it. Phares quickly realises the man they are fighting was one of his experiments in cloning. The Replica grows impatient with their chatter and attacks, mocking Leonidas for being unable to strike him down. Fortunately, Phares also reveals that the Replica has a core located in his left chest and should they attack it, he would fall apart. With haste, the siblings all attack, but the Replica swiftly defeats all of them, leaving only Emile who he simply knocks over, remarking his disappointment. However, Valyx manages to get up again and attacks, with the Replica remarking that the prince truly is a descendant of his original counterpart, revealing that he has all of Alberius's memories within him. However, he twists the truth, claiming that the real Alberius was not as heroic as the legends and was simply an ordinary man who was only made a hero thanks to others projecting their ideas onto him.
Fortunately, Euden and Zethia, back from their trip to Lefkos, arrive with reinforcements and attack, but to no avail so Chelle uses a smokescreen and they retreat into the Halidom. However, the Replica and his fiends already took over it and they are forced to camp out at the town of Rovetelle instead, dealing a crushing blow to their morale. Emile remarks that they are already losing but Leonidas tells him that while fighting a losing war is useless, they must treat is as though they can only win or else. Setting off to attack again, with Euden planning to face off the Replica and for the siblings to target the fiend armies, the siblings march to the Halidom with their soldiers. However, the Replica anticipates their strategies and manages to drive off Chelle and Leonidas, annihilating Emile's forces, leaving only Valyx to face him.
Valyx duels him, refusing to stand down despite his injuries due to his creed of never letting his people down. The Replica notes that the prince adopted his vow from the original Alberius and tells him that while it's alright to idolise someone, he's let himself mindlessly follow the path of his idol. Valyx acknowledges his mistake, but tells the Replica that he too has made a similar error, standing alone to fight despite having no peoples following him, and thus with no true subjects he is undeserving of being a king. Willing himself to stand up, Valyx deals a heavy blow to the clone, pledging to forge his own creed. However, the Replica is seemingly unharmed and readies to kill the exhausted prince. Fortunately, Phares arrives, noting that he modelled the Replica after his idolisation of Alberius as well, but has decided to forge his own path as well and surpass his ancestor. The Replica gloats at this notion, remarking on Valyx's defeated state and how they will never achieve anything more, but the prince reveals to him that Valyx succeeded in damaging his core, causing him to weaken. He attempts to shapeshift, but Euden and Zethia arrive, blocking the attack by transforming into Midgardsormr, along with the rest of the siblings. Together, they have one final showdown against the evil clone.
Valyx deals a final blow, dispersing the black mana and returning the true will of Alberius to the Replica. Alberius apologizes for forcing so many expectations upon his descendants, and entrusts them with carrying on his will with their own paths before dissipating into mana and finally passing on.
Trivia[]
- This is the second time Alberius is fought posthumously after his death, with zombified versions of him, Myriam and Chthonius being summoned in the Omega difficulties of the Tsukuyomi boss fights.
