The Reverend is a main antagonist the first act of the 2007 game The Witcher. He is a priest of the religion of eternal fire and the informal leader of the outskirts.

Biography[]

As a priest of the Eternal Fire, the Reverend is the informal leader of the Vizim outskirts with a fanatical belief in the righteousness of his religion and believes that only the Eternal Fire can stop the White Cold. In accordance with his Eternal Fire beliefs, the Reverend despises Inhumans such as elves, dwarves, gnomes and even people with a passion for magic such as sorcerers and herbalists. The Reverend has his entire outskirts in Vizim under his control and all inhabitants of the outskirts always obey his orders and bow before him.
The Reverend often cooperates with criminals from Salamander, who traffic in children who are sent for experiments aimed at creating an army of mutants. Moreover, the Reverend covered up many scandals so that his employers would not face any consequences, thus causing the curse of the Barghests who terrorized the entire area. After all these actions, the Reverend blames the entire Bargest curse on Abigail and continues to slander her.
Witcher[]
During the beginning of Act 1, the Reverend meets Geralt when he was near the Church of the Eternal Fire after the first meeting, the Reverend treats the witcher with contempt because the previous witcher deserted. And when Geralt says that he is hunting a criminal by an organization called Salamadra, he reacts with anger because the criminals of this organization can destroy his village. Geralt wanted the priest to give him a safe conduct to enter Vizima, but he doesn't trust him because in order to gain his trust, he has to perform his orders.
The first order, the so-called: In Men and Beasts, in which he gave Gelart the task of lighting the Eternal Fire in five shrines at night, Geralt may have doubts when he heard from him about the death of a certain woman's husband after meeting the Beast. After completing the task: In Men and Beasts, the Reverend will ask Geralt to help his people, including Haren Brogg, Odo and Mikul, who after completing their tasks will start blaming Abigail for her evil deeds.

"The leader of the community in the Outskirts is a domineering priest of the Eternal Fire called the Reverend. His authority reaches well beyond the realm of the spiritual — people from the town and village in the Outskirts do exactly what he says. The Reverend is a religious fanatic and a hypocrite. He easily finds guilt where it doesn't exist, ignoring real offences.
The Reverend lives in the town, just left of the temple. During the day he either prays or tends to the church.
The witch Abigail was probably gone by the time I arrived at the Reverend's. Irreconcilable differences is all I can call it. We argued and I had to kill the priest.
The escalating conflict between the Reverend and the local soothsayer ended grimly. A lynch mob accused Abigail of summoning the Beast and then burned her at the stake.
After tending to the witch Abigail, the Reverend unleashed his congregation on me. I had to kill the priest."
