Adamska, better known as Revolver Ocelot, is the main antagonist of the Metal Gear franchise.

He is an agent of the Patriots and former member of FOXHOUND known for his incredible skills as a gunslinger, a good friend of Big Boss, and the arch-nemesis of Solid Snake.

Portrayals[]

From Metal Gear Solid to Guns of the Patriots, he was voiced by Patric Zimmerman. From Snake Eater to Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, he was voiced by Josh Keaton, who also voiced Destroyman in No More Heroes, Duman and Valtor in Winx Club and Electro in Marvel's Spider-Man.

In Metal Gear Solid V, he was voiced by Troy Baker, who also voiced Joel in The Last of Us series, Delsin Rowe in inFamous: Second Son, Shinnok and Erron Black in the Mortal Kombat series, Magni in 2018s God of War, and many others. In Japanese, Ocelot was voiced by the late Kōji Totani in MGS1 and MGS2, Takumi Yamazaki in MGS3 to MPO, Banjō Ginga as Liquid Ocelot, and Satoshi Mikami in MGSV. Both Mikami and Baker voiced Higgs in Death Stranding.

Appearance[]

Ocelot is an tall elderly man with long slick hair and a small mustance with gray eyes. He is also surpisingly well-built, despite being in his elder years.

Ocelot is known for wearing tradational western clothing, which is best seen with his duster long coat, spurs, and gunbelts, as well as a black armband on his left arm. In Metal Gear V, he has another western-themed clothing which consists of light brown shirt with an ammo holder around his chest, and dark brown pants with a gun belt attached around it.

Personality[]

Revolver Ocelot is best known for his incredible prowess on the battlefield as well as his cunning and decefitul nature and his incredible expert skills as a marksman. He was incredibly intelligent and was a fast learner, being able to learn several techinques from observation and capable of speaking multiple languages. Ocelot was also known to be a charistmatic and charming individual, as the Ocelot unit he commanded were incredibly loyal to him without question, and was even able to command regular GRU soldiers during Operation Snake. He was even a popular figure during his time in the Diamond Dogs, with female soldiers forming a "team" supporting in a rivlary with those who prefered Miller. That being said, there were those who had some concerns and suspcious about him due to his decefitul and unpredictable behavior.

As a young man, Ocelot was incredibly arrogant, egotisical, and heavily cofident in himself. He was known for showing off to boost his ego, was quick to inform others of his rank and status in the military, and being heavily proud of his gunslinging skills, which showcases how he believes he is superior and views others beneath him. That being said, Ocelot was shown to have incredible potential as a soldier and gunslinger. But after his first encounter with Naked Snake, his personality began taking a swift change, as he began taking and utilizing Snake's advice into his own combat style to make himself more of a effective gunslinger. While he was still cocky and arrogant, he became more level-headed and was capable of understanding his mistakes, and became a better soldier because of it. He also came to greatly respect Snake, a sentiment that was quickly shared.

Ocelot was questioned by many of his loyalties due to his tendicies to cross anyone he served under, which is best seen with his triple-crossing nature in the 1980s. However, if there is one person he was ever loyal to, it was none other than his friend and rival Big Boss. Ocelot gravely respected the man and viewed him as a teacher, taking many of his battle advices and observing his techniques to create his own battle tactics. This idolzation and loyalty is ultimately the reason why he even joined FOXHOUND and cotinued on assisting Big Boss, even wantig to cotinue on his dream. That being said, despite his strong loyalty towards Big Boss, he has no qualms in using others to his and Big Boss' benefits and even has no problem turning Big Boss' close comerades, decieving them and frequently butting heads with Miller during his time in the Diamond Dogs.

Powers and Abilities[]

Your plan was invalidated even before execution, Solidus.
~ Ocelot to Solidus
  • Genius Intellect: Ocelot is extremely intelligent and both a master manipulator and planner able to concoct plans that will take years to come into fruition and is also excellent at changing his plans at the drop of a hat if something unexpected comes up or he sees a better path.
  • Master Spy: Ocelot is a highly proficient spy. It's impossible to know where his true allegiances lie as he has spent much of his life deceiving and betraying those he had previously been faithful to. It's quite possible that he doesn't know given how long he has spent concealing his true identity.
Torture? This is an interrogation.
~ Revolver Ocelot to Liquid Snake

  • Master Interrogator: Revolver Ocelot's other notable skill is at interrogation (i.e. torture), being highly accomplished at it, and seems to have a preference for electrical torture.
I understand the bullets, you see. I make them go where I want.
~ Revolver Ocelot to Solid Snake
  • Master Marksman: Revolver Ocelot is well known for being a master gunslinger, able to use expertly use handguns, though he prefers his iconic Colt Single Action Army revolver. He is skilled enough to hit his target while ricocheting his shots off of walls and other objects. His precision is great enough to quick draw shoot a memory card out of Solid Snake's hand without damaging it and could even shoot Colonel Volgin's lightning attack directed at him. He can even outdraw soldiers armed with assault rifles.
Nice try, Snake, but when it comes to CQC, I've got the upper hand.
~ Liquid Ocelot to Solid Snake
  • Master Combatant: Despite being known primarily as a marksman, Ocelot is a highly skilled hand to hand fighter. He is trained in CQC (Close-Quarters Combat), his style comprising of Jujitsu, Boxing, Krav Maga, Muay Thai, Karate, Taekwondo, Wrestling, and Judo. As Liquid Ocelot, he preferred hand-to-hand combat, similar to Liquid Snake. He is able to take on skilled fighters like Big Boss and Solid Snake.
I fought wars in Afghanistan, Mozambique, Eritrea and Chad. Among the Mujahaddin guerrillas I was known and feared as 'Shalashaska'. I was trained by the Russian GRU. I am not one of those KGB slugs.
~ Ocelot to Solid Snake
  • Military Training: Revolver Ocelot is a skilled soldier and agent, he used to work for the U.S military and was a member of the Volgin's private army. Afterwards, he acted as a notorious mercenary for years.
  • Stealth: As a soldier and a spy, Ocelot is skilled at stealth, able to get the drop on trained agents like Big Boss, Solid Snake, and Raiden. He even infiltrated some of the most secure and heavily guarded facilities in the world.

Equipment[]

This is the greatest handgun ever made, the Colt Single Action Army. Six bullets, more than enough to kill anything that moves.
~ Ocelot about his weapon of choice

Colt Single Action Army revolver: His weapon of choice is the Colt Single Action Army revolver, which he calls the greatest gun ever made. At first, he carried just one with elaborate engravings. Later, he used 3 standard black powder models using one with an attachable rifle stock. He preferred to carry one on his person at the front of his belt, but sometimes carried a second on the back of the belt.

Tornado-6: The Tornado-6 Revolver was a 6-round revolver that served as the personal firearm of Ocelot during the 1980s. He carried two on his person in a similar manner to his SAA's.

Makarov PM: Ocelot used this handgun during his early years as a Major before switching to an SAA revolver. He used it to gun down several soldiers, though when it jammed during his first encounter with Big Boss, he discarded it entirely.

Thor .45-70: This single shot hand rifle was used by the persona of Liquid Ocelot which he used to finish off the supposed body of Big Boss.

Bayonet knife: Ocelot carried a bayonet knife during his early years as a Major, which he used in an attempt to attack Big Boss and when he took EVA hostage.

Stun knife: Liquid Ocelot used Solid Snake's stun knife against him, stabbing him in the shoulder.

Other Media[]

LittleBigPlanet[]

Liquid Ocelot (Portrayed as a wooden model) appears as the main antagonist of the Metal Gear Solid level kit DLC. Ocelot builds a factory that spam posts copies of the same poorly made level to LittleBigPlanet so he can become the most hearted creator in the game. The player's Sackperson is trained and sent in by Otacon to destroy the factory. Ocelot attempted to use a version of Metal Gear REX to stop the intruder, but it was ultimately destroyed along with his level creating machines, causing his plan to fail.

Super Smash Bros.[]

Ocelot appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as a sticker that increases Ganondorf's darkness abilities. He also appears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a primary grab type spirit, acquired by defeating Fox with increased weapon range power on an electrified terrain Battlefield form of Shadow Moses Island. At level 99, Ocelot can be enhanced to his appearance in Metal Gear Solid V with the ability to increase damage from shooting attacks.

Quotes[]

Pretty...good.
~ Revolver Ocelot, responding to Naked Snake on his abilities.
A Soviet soldier... A lot of them came from Central Asia before, but lately they've been using more and more Russians. Simple really - there's less hesitation to pull the trigger if they're not fighting their own race. Morbid cynicism, but it gets results. That's humanity for you.
~ Revolver Ocelot in Metal Gear Solid V.
It's not a matter of art. It's about quick, minimal strokes of psychological warfare. That's what gets the answers. And it's the best way to keep both questioner and subject safe. The risks only increase the more an interrogation drags on. At that point it causes as much pain to the inflicter as the inflicted.
~ Revolver Ocelot about "the art of interrogation".
It's not over yet!
~ Revolver Ocelot to Solid Snake.
We need tension...conflict. The world today has become too soft. We're living in an age where true feelings are suppressed. So we're going to shake things up a bit. We'll create a world dripping with tension...a world filled with greed and suspicion, bravery and cowardice.
~ Revolver Ocelot to Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid.
Don't even think of using auto-fire, or I'll know.
~ Revolver Ocelot breaking the fourth wall.
Free from FOXDIE... Free from the System... Free from ID Control. Our minds free from their prisons. That is the haven I've yearned for.
~ Liquid Ocelot
This is only the beginning, Snake. America will descend into chaos... It'll be the Wild West all over again. No law, no order. Fire will spread across the world. The people will fight... and through battle, they will know the fullness of life. At last... our father's will... his Outer Heaven... is complete.
~ Liquid Ocelot to Solid Snake.
You're pretty good!
~ Revolver Ocelot's final words.

Trivia[]

  • After his duel with Naked Snake in 1964, Ocelot said, "You were lucky! We'll meet again!" and said the exact same thing to Solid Snake after their fight during the Shadow Moses Incident.
  • While he was torturing Snake in 2005, Ocelot mentioned participating in wars in Afghanistan, Eritea, Mozambique, and Chad.
  • During the Big Shell Incident, when Ocelot was taking an injection to suppress Liquid Snake's spirit, Raiden could hear what were apparently two heartbeats coming from him with the use of a directional microphone.
  • Despite Ocelot only losing his hand to Gray Fox, he replaced his entire right arm.
  • His real name, Adamska, is the Russian version of "ADAM", his codename during Operation Snake Eater.
  • Ocelot's appearance in Metal Gear Solid was based on Lee Van Cleef, an actor in Western films.
    • Van Cleef had a major antagonistic role as Bob Hauk in Escape from New York, where he plays opposite to Kurt Russell's Snake Plissken, who is cited as one of the inspirations for both Solid Snake and Naked Snake.
    • Near the end of MGS3, young Ocelot uses a Colt SAA with a stock configuration, similiar to one Lee Van Cleef's character uses in the movie For Few Dollars More (Per qualche dollaro in più).
  • Originally his codename would have been "Lynx", but Hideo Kojima disliked the name and changed it to Ocelot instead.
  • In Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, Ocelot was apparently right-handed since he was able to show off his ability to handle his gun with his right hand. After it was cut off by Gray Fox, he tried to do the same thing with his left at one point, but he just dropped the gun. However, Ocelot was able to use that hand to shoot the PAL key out of Snake's hand without harming Snake or the key.
  • In an interview with Yoji Shinakawa, Ocelot's arm would originally have been replaced with a mechanical one. But due to Liquid Snake being popular amongst fans, it was decided to have Ocelot replace his arm with that of Liquid.
    • As of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, however, he ultimately ditched Liquid's hand in favor of prosthetic one because of Liquid's influence in said hand proved too much for him to properly maintain his cover as its namesake owner's mental doppelganger.
  • In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, when Snake has a Codec communication with Mei Ling about Pikachu, he mentions Ocelot as he recounted the interrogation he experienced at Ocelot's hands in Metal Gear Solid.
  • In Metal Gear Solid 3, there are several moments in the game in which Snake has several opportunities to kill Major Ocelot. However, by doing so, will result in a game over via a Time Paradox. This is due to the fact that since Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is the prequel to the entire Metal Gear series, killing any of the key characters in the game (Naked Snake, EVA, Ocelot, and Sokolov) would conflict the continuity of the entire Metal Gear series' timeline.
    • Players will also acquire the trophy/achievement, Problem Solved, Series Over if playing Metal Gear Solid 3 in the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection.
  • At the ending of MGS3, by looking into the First Person View, Snake can spot Major Ocelot behind the President.
  • Troy Baker would work with Hideo Kojima again in Death Stranding, where he played Higgs.
