Rex Igneous is a major antagonist in the Netflix TV Show The Dragon Prince. He is the archdragon of Earth, who had a piece of Aaravos' prison's location through a map, which Team Zym go on a mission to get it. He is also the former friend-turned-rival of Avizandum.
He is voiced by Ben Cotton, who also portrayed Michael Matthews in Riverdale and Bishop in Scar 3D.
Personality[]
Unlike many of his fellows, Rex Igneous is a cold, arrogant, viscous, unfulfilled, angry and selfish dragon. He has no regard for draconic royalty, though he does return some respect to Avizandum after learning of his death. Living surrounded by various treasures he had no use for made Rex indifferent to gifts of any form of value, such as when he denigrated the offerings of Rayla, Callum and Ezran despite the emotional value. Likewise, he doesn't value the lives of others, initially having the intention of killing Team Zym without really taking it seriously.
Beneath his cruel exterior, Rex isn't completely heartless, as he shows after tasting the pastry Ezran gave him and then agreeing to answer a question, though he wasn't convinced by that form of offering. He's also proven somewhat reasonable in being aware of how dangerous Aaravos is, literally refusing to answer a question that would endanger the world. However, Rex mostly acted smug when asked about Aaravos' location, stating that he would refuse to tell "tiny children" about it and breaking his word to answer the question. It was only out of respect for the deceased Avizandum that Rex finally agreed to provide the solution for Team Zym to find the Aaravos prison, even though he wasted no time denigrating and belittling his former rival and his family the moment he heard Zubeia's name.
Rex's greatest flaw is that he is terribly angry and impulsive to the point that he no longer listens to reason, is unable to tell who deceived him or not, and will fly into an uncontrollable murderous rage. Even at his most brutal, Rex didn't have the courage to engage in confrontation with Zubeia despite obviously not being afraid of her.

Backstory[]
Rex Igneous would become the Archdragon of the Earth, and was a friend of Avizandum, until one day, something happened that caused them to become rivals. After Luna Tenebris' death, Rex alongside the other dragons would fight each other to decide who would become the next Dragon King.
To avoid more the destruction that was being caused by their battle, the Sunfire Queen Aditi confronted the dragons and told them that she would decide the new Dragon King for them, but before she could make her decision, she was murdered by Aaravos, which caused the elves to believe that the dragons were responsible for her death.
Before there was a war between the two species, however, The Orphan Queen of Katolis found out about Aaravos' actions, and the dragons were able to imprison him, and to make sure that no one would ever find out where Aaravos was and avoid him being released, clues of it's location were given to all the dragons, with Avizandum getting a mirror to keep Aaravos in control.
During the next three hundred years, Rex would built a temple in Umber Tor through using humans to do it, and would receive gifts from people who came to the temple, to the point he had his cave filled with the greatest treasures in Xadia, and this eventualy bored him. While this happened, Lord Viren and King Harrow would murder Avizandum and Viren, his daughter Claudia, and the latter's boyfriend would go to find Aaravos so he would save Viren before he died in thirty days.
Season 4[]

Team Zym would go to Rex Igneous to get the map that could lead them to Aaravos' prison so he wouldn't be freed, while Claudia, Viren, and Terry would also go to Rex to do the same with the intent of freeing Aaravos. Team Zym would go to his cave, and when Rex saw Rayla, he tried to kill her, but the group would decide to give several of their personal items.
However, Rex wasn't fond of them and told Team Zym to run and that he would catch and kill them, as he was bored with receiving gifts, but Ezran was able to convince Rex not to by giving him a brown sludge tart that was made by Barius, with Rex liking it because it was something new and thought it was delecious. After this, Rex would allow Team Zym to ask him a question, and they asked him where they could find Aaravos.
Rex would laugh about it because they believed that he would give them the location of the most dangerous creature on Earth. Ezran would then tell Rex that Zubeia had sent them, but Rex asked why she would not call her husband Avizandum. Rex would then mock Avizandum in several ways, which caused Azymondias to attack Rex as he angered at Rex for disrespecting his father.
After finding out about Azymondias, Rex called Avizandum a coward because he believed sent his son to taunt him, calling it a new low for him. Ezran would then tell Rex that Avizandum was dead, leading Rex to feel bad about it and telling Azymondias his apologies as Avizandum, despite having been his rival, he was once his friend as well. Rex would then tell Team Zym that he had a map that would lead them to Aaravos' prison, but Claudia appeared and put them to sleep with a spell.
Claudia and Terry would then find that the map was in Rex's tooth, but Rayla wakes up and stabs Rex in his left paw, causing him to wake up, but Claudia and Terry were able to get the map. Rex would then blame Team Zym of betraying and trying to hurt him, and while Ezran tries to calm him down, he only briefly does it so he could kill Ezran, but he was saved by Callum. Rex would then go after them to murder them, but they were able to get out of the Storm Spire and Zubeia would then appear, forcing Rex to get back to his temple, but not before destroying the way in.
