Aleksei Sytsevich, better known as Rhino, is a supporting antagonist in the 2018 action-adventure superhero video game Marvel's Spider-Man and the secondary antagonist of its 2020 spin-off Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
He is a supervillain in a mech suit resembling a rhinoceros and is one of the most well-known enemies of the famous superhero, Spider-Man and the arch-rival of Miles Morales.
After spending years restrained in the Raft, the armored brute is released by Doctor Octopus, who makes him part of his supervillain group the Sinister Six.
He was voiced by Fred Tatasciore, who also voiced Shao Kahn in Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge, Goldar in the 2017 Power Rangers film, Tony Alpert in Battlefield: Hardline, Bane in Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, The Tank and The Boomer from Left 4 Dead, Saren Arterius in Mass Effect, Poseidon in God of War (2005), and many more.
Personality[]
“ | This Spider-Man is broken. I would like to exchange for new one... Ah. This one will do. | „ |
~ Rhino to Spider-Man/Miles Morales after he took down Spider-Man/Peter Parker unconsciously. |
Like many incarnations of the character, Rhino is portrayed as a brutish and destructive villain who is willing to leave trails of mass destruction and has no qualm in harming others. While not exactly as dim-witted, he does prove to be rather simple-minded with an attack-first attitude and is also quick to anger at Spider-Man's quips and jokes about him. Rhino also desired to be rid of his combat suit that had been grafted to him, seeing being free from his suit as "true freedom" and even told Spider-Man that he should be thankful as he'd be less trouble without it.
In the second game however, Rhino shows a more sadistic side to him with how he faces the two Spider-Men and went ahead with causing destruction and potential murder at a mall during Christmas time. While originally wanting his suit gone, he appeared to favor more power and revenge against the Spider-Men more than that, which Simon Krieger used to his advantage. Even when defeated, he taunted Phin Mason over how her brother died and that she was unable to help him in an attempt to anger her into attacking him, which he succeeded.
Appearance[]
Rhino is extremely tall (towering over most people) and incredibly muscular. Much of his body is covered in a gray armor suit designed after a rhino, which includes two metallic horns on his helmet that light blue optic lenses.
Biography[]
Past[]
Born in Irkutsk, Russia around the year 1977, Aleksei was former mob enforcer of Russian origin, Aleksei Sytsevich became known as the Rhino after having an experimental combat suit grafted to his skin. Rhino was one of the several supervillains that Spider-Man came to encounter early into his superhero career. When he attempted to make off with millions in gold bullions, Rhino collided with Spider-Man, who ultimately subdued him and sent him to the Raft.
Marvel's Spider-Man[]
Now sealed within his rhino suit, seemingly forever, Aleksei wished to shed the mech suit and his thuggish reputation as the Rhino. Later, he was approached by Doctor Octopus, who promised to help him do it in exchange for dismantling the mayor of New York Norman Osborn and his empire once he's been freed from the Raft. Octavius even created a formula that was seemingly able to destroy some of the metal from Rhino's suit.
Rhino was one of the many criminals released during a massive prison break in the Raft. After leading an assault on the prison, Rhino brutally beat Spider-Man alongside other members of the Sinister Six. Afterward, Doc Ock tossed Spider-Man away and briefed Rhino on his objective.
Rhino's task was to ascertain the supply routes of Oscorp's relief centers and lay waste to them. During an assault on a Sable International outpost, Rhino interrogated two Sable guards for their supply routes and schedules but was interrupted by Scorpion, who apologized to the guards for Rhino's inelegance before killing them both. Miles Morales, who was searching for antibiotics for F.E.A.S.T, saw this and was taken aback, accidentally making noise and causing the Rhino to hunt him down. After an intense hunt, Miles managed to escape the Rhino by staying out of his sight and by tricking him with sounds around the ambient.
Rhino is later intercepted by Spider-Man after engaging Sable officers. Scorpion came to Rhino's aide and together the two engaged Spider-Man in a battle. During the fight, Rhino and Scorpion constantly bickered with each other, as Scorpion considered Rhino to be stupid, and Rhino considered Scorpion to have no principles. Due to their shortcomings, Spider-Man defeats the two and traps them in a shipping container. Rhino was then apprehended by the police.
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales[]
During a prison transfer to the re-built Raft, Rhino escapes which prompts both Spider-Men to chase after him as he rampages across Harlem, causing a massive amount of damage. Rhino even causes a rampage in a shopping Mall while telling the young Spider-Man he was held prisoner for years and wants to enjoy this Christmas while the hero had to save civilians and direct Rhino away from destroying more things.
He later causes the Heroes to crash into a power station run by Roxxon Energy Corporation and engages the elder Spider-Man in battle while the younger one handles the escape prisoners who arrived. Rhino ended up seriously injuring the older Spider-Man, calling him broken and turning his sights on the younger one for his new playmate. However, Rhino was unprepared when the younger Spider-Man activated his venom powers and after a lengthy fight, Rhino ended up defeated. The unconscious Rhino was rounded up by Roxxon CEO Simon Krieger. Krieger told the two Spider-Men that Rhino will be held until the proper authorities could come for him.
In truth, Rhino was never apprehended and was hired by Krieger to serve as one of his enforcers. He requested freedom from his suit in exchange for his services but was denied and instead offered money and upgrades to better help him defeat the younger Spider-Man should he interfere with Krieger's plans.
Rhino later ambushed Spider-Man and the Tinkerer at Trinity Church easily knocking both of them out with his new upgraded suit. Roxxon then brought the captured vigilantes to secure location. Rhino was seen Krieger and Prowler (Spider-Man's uncle) about the situation.
When Spider-Man and the Tinkerer were collecting information, Rhino rushes at them through the wall, Rhino's new Roxxon armor grants him immunity to Spider-Man's venom attacks. he fights the dual alongside Roxxon guards. After Driving him into tanks and throwing engines at him, the Roxxon armor is destroyed and now he is vulnerable to the Venom attacks which results his defeat. Spider-Man tells the Tinkerer to watch him to make sure he doesn't do anything while investigating about Krieger and Roxxon. A beaten Rhino mocks the Tinkerer about her dead brother and that her brother's death was her fault and tells her she is helpless, Tinkerer is enraged about what he said and she brings her blade into his chest in an attempt to kill him, but Spider-Man saves him at the time as he tackles her into the subway, now their path into Roxxon is blocked because of some debris.
It can be assumed that the authorities found Rhino and took him to the Raft again.

Trivia[]
- Rhino appears to be an amalgamation of his Earth-616 and Earth-1610 counterparts, as he is portrayed as a giant brute with a Russian background but his suit is a mechanical, experimental combat suit instead of a thick layer of polymer material attached to him.
- In Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Rhino mentions that his favorite sport is fly-fishing on the Volga River in Russia during the chase through New York.
- Peter reveals that Rhino has a bald spot in one of their optional exchanges of the first phase of his and Scorpion's boss fight.
- On October 25th 2023, while playing Marvel's Spider-Man 2, a player discovered a trophy room outside of the overworld with 4 heads mounted on a wall one of which belonging to Rhino, Scorpion, Shocker and Vulture. This suggests that originally Rhino was originally suppose to be one of Kraven the Hunter's victims in the story but was later changed to Electro instead as there is no evidence of his death at the hands of Kraven in the finished game.
