~ Rhulk's pre battle monologue |
Rhulk is a major antagonist in Destiny 2, serving as the raid boss of "Vow of The Disciple".
The last living Lubraen, Rhulk commands a Pyramid Ship as part of The Witness's Black Fleet and the one who enslaved the Worm Gods into serving the will of the Witness, and The Hive by extension. His failure to enslave the Ahslid race led to his master trapping him inside Savathûn's Throne World as punishment, who later further imprisoned him within his own ship.
Savathûn's death freed him from his prison, only to be defeated after Guardians stormed the damaged Pyramid Ship and broke through his defenses. While Rhulk is currently presumed dead, lore from a Raid Sparrow and his lorecard suggest he may have the ability to reincarnate.
He is voiced by Andrew Morgado.
Biography[]
Rhulk was born several thousands of years ago on Lubrae to a family who lived as nomads. His family was hunted by a faction from a city where other Lubraens live. The traveler had visited Lubrae and this lead to a division within their society. This division lead up to both sides fighting each other. The first sign of Rhulk's more aggressive tendencies appeared when Lubraen soldiers came to hunt down and kill Rhulk's family. Rhulk ended up killing the soldiers instead and displayed their heads. His family was horrified at Rhulk's brutality, but Rhulk's father, who was absent up to this point, invited Rhulk. to serve in the city's army.
The Traveler had left, and in the wake, the Witness and his fleet showed up. Throughout his time, Rhulk grew tired of the city his dad lived in. At the same time, he was an effective soldier, hunting down other Lubraens who lived outside the city walls. When his father managed to get his family back into the city, Rhulk went to meet them at a bridge outside the city, where he was pushed off a bridge, along with his Glave. He was severely injured in the fall, but the Witness decided to restore him. Rhulk then slaughtered his family after scaling the chasm. The Witness then gave him a Pyramid ship with a device known as the Upended. Rhulk used it to reverse the power of Lubrae's sun, destroying the planet.
Rhulk then traveled in deep space, where he would presumably aid in the downfall of many species that the Witness targeted in pursuit of the Traveler. He then came upon the Hive on Fundament, where he found the Hive. Working with the Witness, he tricked Savathûn and Aurix, now Oryx, into taking the Hive worms as a source of power. Along his way, Rhulk encounter Leviathan, a creature who warned against the Darkness. Rhulk ripped a rib out of the Leviathan and displayed it in his pyramid ship.
He then helped Savathûn build a Hive worm breeding ground in her Throne World, but ended up being tricked by her and sealed into his Pyramid Ship. Approximately two weeks after Savathûn's death, a six guardian fireteam defeated, and presumably killed Rhulk.
Personality[]
Rhulk is very arrogant, to the point where he did not take the Guardians storming his Pyramid Ship seriously until he was critically weakened. Only then he released his full power. He is also extremely violent, as he was unflinching when he destroyed an entire planet. It is likely Rhulk is a serial killer, as he keeps trophies as "mementos of what he gained" and he refers to death as a "gift". It is also equally likely he views the Witness as a god and is taking the Witness's beliefs to it's logical conclusions, given how he addresses the Witness, as "My Witness" or says "Witness, forgive me." as his final words.
Trivia[]
- Rhulk is the first new enemy type since Destiny 2: Forsaken, and a new species since the launch of Destiny.
