Rhya, also known as Disloyal, is a major antagonist of Black Clover manga and anime series, serving as one of the first saga's two secondary antagonists (alongside William Vangeance) up until his redemption in Reincarnation Arc. He later became a minor supporting character in the second saga alongside other remaining elves.
Rhya is one of the Third Eye members and a major general in the Eye of the Midnight Sun, as well as one of the elves from the long lost Elf Tribe and Patolli's right-hand.
In Japanese version, he was formerly voiced Hirofumi Arai, and now currently by Masakazu Morita. In English version, he is voiced by Brandon Potter.
History[]
Rhya was one of Licht's supporters several centuries ago, and advocated peace between humans and elves. After Patolli expressed his doubts regarding humanity's violent nature to Licht, Rhya assured him that peace between humans benefits both the tribes.
During Licht and Tetia's wedding, the Elf Tribe was attacked by Lumiere, the future Wizard King. After using his ability on him, Rhya found out Lumiere didn't attack the tribe, as he was killed by Zagred's copy of his magic.
Several centuries later, Rhya was awakened by Patolli, who believed that Licht cast the Reincarnation Magic to take revenge on humans. Despite knowing the truth, Rhya was influenced by malice against humans, an effect of Zagred's spell, so decided not to inform him.
Personality[]
Rhya has a laid-back personality but is quick to fight, albeit unwillingly, to protect an ally. Seemingly the calmest of the Third Eye, he cares deeply for Patolli, fleeing a fight to re-seal his power, and is rather worried for him. He also somewhat of a playboy, frequently asking pretty women out for a drink with the exception of those of royal blood.
Living up to his title as the "Disloyal", Rhya can tell one is being deceptive. In fact, this trait allowed him to realize that there were inconsistencies in the Elf genocide and later seeing Asta's ideals of a world of mutual understanding to be genuine.
In both cases, though he believes things would had been different if there were more humans like Asta and the first Wizard King, Rhya remains undeterred from his goals of being reunited with his kin at any cost.
Trivia[]
- Whilst holding the title of Disloyal, Rhya is actually one of the most loyal members to his elves kin, particularly Licht and Patolli. He only earned this title due to his ability to detect treachery.
- According to Tabata, Rhya's human host was a noble under suicidal depression.
- The design for Rhya is based on Japanese actor Hirofumi Arai, after he personally asked Yūki Tabata during a segment of Jump Undercover Mission Police. Hirofumi later became the voice actor for the character. However, following Arai's arrest and indictment for sexual assault, he was replaced by Masakazu Morita as the voice of Rhya.
