And, see, that is what most superheroes, even the big ones, they just don't get. That being a hero, a real hero, is not about glory. It's about sacrifice.
~ Richard Brinkerhoff to Marie Moreau.
Tell me, do you remember sitting in that chair, a scared-shitless freshman who never wanted to switch? And I promised that I would always take good care of you. Remember? Now... Jordan, people just don't understand the lows it takes to reach great heights. And so now I want you to promise me, as my new T.A., that you will always protect me. Not a word of this to anyone.
~ Brinkerhoff to Jordan Li, asking them to keep quiet on "The Woods" experiments.

Biography[]

Background[]

Little is known of Richard Brinkerhoff's past, but he later became a successful author and renowned professor at Godolkin University for his studies in crimefighting. During his tenure, he became well-beloved by numerous students and alumni, earning him the nickname "Brink" and "Coach Brink". He also mentored several students whom became famous superheroes in adulthood, such as Queen Maeve, A-Train and Blue Hawk.

The Woods[]

At some point, Brink started to experiment on supes in a secret facility known as "The Woods", as he wanted to enhance his students to maintain Godolkin's reputation for making talented students. The most notable subjects were Luke and Sam Riordan, and started to give the former transfusions to further enhance his powers. Believing that Luke could potentially become the next Homelander in terms of power, he continued to give Riordan injections and had Cate Dunlap erase his memories of "The Woods". Despite this, Luke's memories slowly returned after receiving an injection, but was stopped from attacking Brink by Jordin Li. Richard then decided to offer Li a position as his teacher assistant in exchange they didn't tell anyone of what he was doing.

Gen V[]

In his office, Brink speaks with Jordin on his schedule until he is confronted by Marie Moreau, a new student on the matter of being rejected from a course. He dismisses Moreau, instead telling her to join a performing art class instead as he speaks with Jordin on his schedule. After Andre Anderson accidently hurts a girl at a club and Moreau saves them, the professor decides to pin the incident on Marie to protect Andre, Luke and Jordin due to them being top students at Godolkin. When she protests, he blackmails Marie into doing so when he threatens to expose her past of being a self-made orphan. Later on, Brink is confronted by Luke, whom having regained his memories of "The Woods", proceeds to kill the professor by burning him to death.

Following his death, Dean Indira Shetty takes over his position as professor and continued to conduct experiments at "The Woods" to get revenge against supes. However, the secret facility was investigated by Marie alongside Andre, Jordan, Cate and Emma after Luke took his own life.
