Richard Strout is the main antagonist of Oscar winning motion picture In the Bedroom 2001 and plays the separated ex-husband of Natalie who murders Natalie's other boyfriend Frank for their relationship and the part for her and her children.

He was portrayed by the William Mapother, who also portrayed Ethan Rom in Lost, Delroy Baker in Justified, and Parasite in Supergirl.

Biography[]

Richard is an ex husband of divorced Natalie whom having an undertaking with architect college boy Frank in spite of their age differences, Richard loses the guardianship of Natalie's children and isolated by her due to Natalie's connection with Frank. One time at a house barbeque, he approaches one of Natalie's children to play with them and demonstrates fidelity, he goes to the house of Natalie befuddled and incensed of losing his kids and her family then becomes concerned and jealous of her relationship between Frank wanting to win Natalie back. He at that point tries to discover a way into his ex-wife and children's lives, progressing to progressively rough lengths to urge his eagerly over to Natalie, counting ambushing Frank. He arrives at night outside her home just to see Natalie and Frank relaxing together and then comes out and approaches Frank just to beat him physically causing a facial cut in his eye. Frank stands up to Ruth's request he report Richard's violence to the police, but not one or the other she nor Matt call them. Late one evening, Frank quickly rushed to Natalie's house after receiving a frightened call from one of her children. On his arrival, he saw that the living room was in chaos and Natalie was visibly distressed. She informs him that Richard has just departed, and begs him not to get in touch with the police, however Richard, still in a rage, soon returns. Natalie escorts the boys upstairs, and Frank commands from the blocked front door that Richard go away. He strongly refuses doing so, only to break in through the back door with a handgun near the stairwell; in the resulting scuffle, Frank is shot in the face and killed. Natalie comes down the stairs terrified as Richard sits within the table calm and loose. Richard is captured immediately and sent to the courthouse for his trial. Due to his spouse not seeing the gunfire or fair hearing the gunfire there's no physical structure to what may have happened amid the kill as a result Richard gets a minimum sentence of either inadvertent kill or manslaughter at a maximum of 5 to 10 years in prison which infuriates Frank's parents. Richard is set free on safeguard, paid by his well-to-do family, and both Matt and Ruth are constrained to see him around town emotionally influenced with fury. Indeed at one point Ruth sees him in a convenience store taking a drink and running off she complains to Matt that she doesn't need to see her son's killer around any longer which he needs equity to be done to him. Matt at that point plans with his companion Willis to murder Richard in revenge for murdering Frank. They both concur and go on with the plan. Matt at that point tracks Richard into a boardwalk closing in on a store, he is seen flirting with a woman who then drives off. Richard notices Matt and Matt then steals Richard at gunpoint, saying he's orchestrated for Richard to hop safeguard and take off the state, so as to save them the torment of seeing him in Camden. In the car Richard explains to Matt that he only did it obviously to keep in touch with Natalie more but Matt doesn't seem to care and tells him not to talk. He takes him to his apartment and he strengths Richard to "pack clothes for warm weather" and plants a train schedule in his apartment. He looks at a poster in confusion of his wife Natalie smiling and hugging with Richard symbolizing that Richard and Natalie actually did go together at first. He forces Richard to drive them out to the Grinnel cabin through the inland of the forest, where Willis is holding up with another vehicle. Richard gets out of the car thinking he is going out free smiling. Willis starts to stack Richard's possessions, but Matt falters - and after that shoots Richard once within the shoulder and twice within the back crawling, murdering him. Willis is stunned, reproving Matt for not taking after the plan. Matt responds simply that he couldn't hold up. The two effectively bury Richard's body profound within the woods past the cabin, but are stuck suddenly at a bridge crossing on their return domestic. Willis regrets that this cost them about an hour - meaning they arrive back in town fair after dawn at 4:00am rather than in haziness at 3:00am - and Matt apologizes.
