Richie (One Piece)

Richie (リッチー Ritchī) is a minor antagonist in the manga and anime series One Piece. He is Mohji's pet lion and an important member of the Buggy Pirates, he also briefly served as their captain during Buggy's absence.

He is voiced by Tetsu Inada in Japanese and Mike McFarland in the Funimation dub.

Biography[]

Richie, the large lion companion of Mohji in the Buggy Pirates, first appeared during the invasion of Orange Town, where he and Mohji attacked Chouchou the dog. They were quickly defeated by Luffy. Later, during internal conflict between Cabaji and Mohji over leadership, Richie sleepwalked, beat them both up while dreaming of being a captain fighting a dragon, and was humorously declared captain—only to be captured by the Kumate Tribe soon after. Fortunately, Buggy and Alvida rescued them.

Richie participated in the failed attempt to burn the Straw Hats' ship in Loguetown and was knocked out by accident. He reunited with the crew later and was mostly seen in the background, often thinking only of food like onigiri, candy, and curry. When Ace boarded Buggy's ship, Richie was asked to jump through a fire hoop.

During Buggy and Alvida's alliance's failed rescue attempt at Impel Down, Richie remained mostly concerned with eating. Later, as part of the Buggy Pirates, Richie witnessed events during the confrontation with Byrnndi World and his crew. While the crew worried and cheered for Buggy, Richie kept dreaming about food—ice cream, melon, curry. Eventually, they escaped thanks to Boa Hancock.

Richie later appeared celebrating Doflamingo's defeat with the crew at Buggy's Delivery, and attended the Pirates Festival on Delta Island. After the dissolution of the Warlord system, Buggy's group was targeted by the Marines, but Crocodile intervened to recruit them into his new organization, the Cross Guild.
