Rickter is a minor antagonist in the 2021 Japanese-American streaming series, Pacific Rim: The Black, based on the Pacific Rim film franchise. He is the violent and unhinged member of the Bogan, who has a begrudging obsession with the Travis siblings, Taylor and Hayley, and their newfound companion, Boy.
He was voiced by Leonardo Nam.
Personality[]
Rickter is best characterized through his short-temper, paranoia, and at best, a coward. He acts with aggression towards anyone he meets and has rather violent tendencies, to the point he wasn't above holding teens or children at gunpoint, let alone openly willing to kill them as seen with the Travis siblings and Boy with a sadistic smirk on his face. Despite that, Rickter started out watching over and looking out for his crewmates, as it was the reason for his aggression towards the Travis siblings in the first place and goes onto confronting Shane about their men's conditions over the Drift piloting.
Eventually, Rickter is shown to have signs of sociopathy, deliberately shooting a female Bogan member for refusing to listen to his word and further demonstrating his twisted sense for control.
Biography[]
Little is very known about Rickter's background, though at some point after past Kaiju attacks, he eventually got recruited into the Bogan by Shane. Rickter is first seen scouting the outlands with Mei to steal Kaiju eggs from a Kaiju Eel swimming by a running river, though circumstances got out of hand when Boy, traveling with the Travis siblings, caught the Kaiju Eel's attention that devoured two of their crewmates, which soon Rickter uses a rocket launcher to blast down the Kaiju Eel. It had no effect and with Rickter being too slow to reload the launcher, Mei manages to double-time and shoot a rocket missile into the kaiju's mouth, killing it with its head exploding. Enraged by the siblings and Boy's presence, Rickter threatens to shoot them. When Taylor Travis tried to dissuade the situation and apologize, Rickter refuses to listen to reason and acts with aggression until Mei tries talking him down, only stepping down when Mei warned him about the consequences if Shane were to find out.
Driving back to the Bogan's headquarters and base, still paranoid of the twins and Boy, Rickter was ordered to give the trio food and clothes for Boy, which he reluctantly did so. During the deal between Shane and Demarcus, Rickter overhears the Travis siblings' conversation when they and Boy tried to make a run for it, only to stop Taylor at his tracks and intimidate him, revealing Mei brought them here for something of us and has him at gunpoint until Hayley kicked him in the shin, causing a crossfire between both groups during the failed negotiation. He gets up and has the trio at gunpoint when they tried to make their escape, getting them off as they are brought to Shane. Later seen helping out in having his men form a neural bridge with Joel and co-piloting Atlas Destroyers thanks to Mei informing Shane once they located it, Rickter confronts Shane and makes a complaint on how their men aren't compatible to co-pilot the Jaeger and that their "brains are turned into mush", leading him to get slapped in the face to the ground and now ordered to send in more men to activate Atlas Destroyer. He later evacuates with the rest of Bogan when the Kaiju Copperhead was on their way.
Rickter is then seen chasing the trio once they left the Bogan in spite of Shane's "word" of letting them live, settling "unfinished business" with them as he targets and shoots Boy out of spite, leading to a brawl between a furious Taylor and Hayley until he gotten the upper-hand and prepares to fire at them until he was knocked out unconscious by a surviving Boy, who is unharmed by the bullet. Now at the mercy of an angered Taylor holding the gun at him, Mei came in and stops him from shooting, seemingly believing he is spared until the latter mercilessly shoots him instead.
It was later revealed during the aftermath of Bogan's destruction that he is still well and alive, getting Spyder to cooperate with him to confront Shane. Calling him out on not being even close to showing any concern of what's become of the Bogan and how much his actions costed everything over getting Mei back, resulting in him getting punched by Shane and cowardly raising his arms up until Shane denies any concerns for Mei as they make leave for Atlas Destroyer.
With the passing of Shane after he sacrificed his conscience for Brina, at some point, Rickter took over his position and soon found himself at Apex's presence. Observing the Kaiju-Jaeger Drone Hybrid, he orders his men not to fire just yet, hoping it would leave on its own terms. Unfortunately, one of his crew members - a female one, got nervous and accidentally shot the rocket launcher's missile that missed Apex, soon drawing the hybrid's attention to them. Ordering his men to fire all weapons, they've proven to have no effect against the Drone Hybrid until it sensed Boy within the Divide. When Apex soon leaves, Rickter orders his men to stand down but the female member refuses and insists to continue firing, leading him to shoot her off. He looked into his other fellow members and stated that just because Shane is gone, doesn't mean no one is in charge.
