~ Ricky Blaine disrespecting a model who was sexually assaulted. |
Ricky Blaine, aka "The Measuring Man", is a supporting antagonist in the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "...Or Just Look Like One". He is a serial rapist who disfigured one of his victims, Deborah Latrell, the main antagonist of the episode.
He was portrayed by Todd Stashwick.
Biography[]
Blaine is a serial rapist who preys on young, aspiring models. He approaches them by pretending to be a talent scout and offering to take their measurements. He then subdues and rapes them, often beating them within an inch of their lives during the assault.
He was imprisoned after he attacked supermodel Deborah Latrell and gouged out her right eye, effectively ending her career. He spent several years in Creedmore Prison, and was paroled a few months before the events of the episode.
"...Or Just Look Like One"[]
When teenage model Jazmin Burgess is brutally sexually assaulted, Detectives Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler of the NYPD's Special Victims Unit consider Blaine their prime suspect, and go to the auto body shop he works at to question him. Blaine denies harming Jazmin, but still speaks of her disrespectfully, calling her ads "primo money-spank fuel".
He claims to have been watching football at his halfway house at the time of the assault, but makes Benson and Stabler suspicious when he gets the teams wrong. He then offers to "measure" Benson and tries to assault her. Benson responds by kneeing him in the groin, and she and Stabler arrest him for assaulting a police officer, sending him back to prison.
The climax of the episode reveals that Latrell murdered the victim in a fit of rage after finding out that her photographer boyfriend, Carlo Parisi, was sleeping with her. While confessing to the crime, Latrell says that the murder was the end result of a downward spiral that began after Blaine disfigured her and destroyed her career.
Trivia[]
- Blaine is loosely based on the late Albert DeSalvo, the alleged "Boston Strangler", who was a serial rapist before he began killing; like Blaine, DeSalvo posed as a modeling talent scout in order to approach his victims.
