Rido Kuran is the overarching antagonist in the anime and manga dark fantasy series, Vampire Knight, being the main antagonist of Vampire Knight Gulity. He is a power-hungry and callous Pureblood vampire who is the true uncle of of Yuki and Kaname, being the true head of the Kaname family and has an obsessive love for his sister, Juri, and he returns to cause more chaos, aiming to make Yuki a replacement for Juri. He is also revealed to be the finance of Shizuka Hio and is also the arch-enemy of Yuki Cross and Kaname.
He is voiced by Patrick Seitz is the English dubbed version of Vampire Knight Guilty, and Tarusuke Shingaki is the Japanese version.
Personality[]
Unlike Kaname and Shizuka Hio, Rido Kuran is a powerful and self-absorbed psychopath who is completely defined by his clear sadism, entitlement, and self-centeredness, having or showing no remorse for his actions and only displays sick glee. He also displays a charming sense of manners and intelligence, as he shows a lot of knowledge on magic, being able to find a way to sacrifice Kaname to unleash the return of the ancient ancestor with the same name for his own purposes. He also shows on hesitation in using his powers to control lesser vampires for his own purposes, also showing an obsessive love for Juri, which is more of an obsession to be precise, showing sadism when he killed her and planned to make Yuki Cross his new wife.
Powers and Abilities[]
Being a Pureblood vampire, he is actually shown to be one of the most formidable and fearsome oponentes Yuki has ever faced, even very powerful alongside Kaname, with the typical abilities of being Pureblood like immortality and enhanced super speed and strength. He also displays unique powers due to his heritage, being able to manipulate his own blood into becoming a weapon and the ability to transfer hin soul into other bodies, that he is able to possess them and retain control of successfully and being able to absorb their powers by drinking other vampires blood. His high intelligence and cunningness as his schemes are shown to become pretty successful, with being a member of the Kuran family gives him the right to handle anti-vampire weapons and it won’t be able to hurt or kill him if he gets the change to use it.
Biography[]
Ten years prior to the main timeline, he attacked the Kuran mansion, killed Haruka, and intended to take or sacrifice the newborn Yuki. Juri sacrificed herself to seal away Yuki's vampire nature and memories to protect her. In the main story, Rido reawakens and uses Shiki's body to infiltrate Cross Academy in search of Yuki. His appearance forces Kaname to reawaken Yuki's vampire self. Rido, upon seeing Yuki's resemblance to her mother, changes his goal from sacrificing her to making her a replacement for Juri.Rido was eventually defeated through a combined effort from Yuki and Zero Kiryu. Yuki stabbed him through the chest with the anti-vampire weapon Artemis, and Zero delivered the final blow with his Bloody Rose, turning Rido's body to dust.
