Villain Overview

STOP TALKING!
~ Rigby's famous catchphrase.
Don: What's going on with us? You never give me some sugar. Did I do something?
Rigby: Yeah. You were BORN!
~ Rigby's most infamous quote.
Loser?! I don't know that I want to listen to the guy who was wrong about the Snack Bar being cool. No, I think I'd rather listen to the guy who's right all the time. ME!
~ Rigby after being insulted for his suggestion on eating more junk food.

Rigby is one of the two main protagonists (alongside Mordecai) of the Cartoon Network animated series Regular Show. He is a 23-year-old raccoon who made his debut in the original pilot episode working as a groundskeeper of the park.

Although Rigby is one of the main characters, he has done many immoral and unacceptable acts throughout the series, but he has done things to fix his mistakes as well. As the series progressed, Rigby has gotten less and less immature and has become more of a true friend and has even become a loving and devoted boyfriend and future husband to Eileen. Eventually, he matures to the point where he retains little, if any of his more immature traits.

He was voiced by William Salyers, who also voiced Erich Soders from HITMAN, Doctor Octopus from Marvel's Spider-Man, Perseus in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and Joseph Stalin from Superman: Red Son.

Appearance[]

Rigby is a brown raccoon with short, spiky hair. He has dark brown circles around his eyes which is apparently a facial mask, like a normal raccoon would usually have. He also has a long tail with six dark brown stripes on it. His stomach, chest, throat and the underside of his snout are a pale, grey-brown color. In the episode "Don", it was shown that when Rigby was six years old, he had a single front tooth.

He is 3'2", making him 3'1" shorter than Mordecai and around 27 pounds. He had four fingers on each hand, and three toes on each foot. Rigby once played "Punchies" with Skips, which resulted in a damaged butt cheek that required surgery, and that afterwards it looked like Rigby only had one butt cheek, instead of two. As a result, his friends call him "The One Cheek Wonder".

Personality[]

Rigby is best described as a "wild teenager", although he is past his teenage years. He becomes frustrated, frightened, lazy, dimwitted, confused, or depressed easily, making his behavior very predictable. He is also very arrogant, and immature at times giving him the personality of a child. In this way, he is a character foil of Mordecai, who demonstrates far more responsibility and maturity than him.

Rigby cares about the friends he has, as he tried to help Pops with his fear of giving speeches, saved Muscle Man from drowning and saved everyone from a pack of evil hot dogs. He also felt bad for Benson Dunwoody after he said he was going to lose his job. Also, as selfish as Rigby can be, he has been willing to risk his own life to help his friends, and can be selfless at times.

As the series progressed, Rigby had notably started to demonstrate more maturity and responsibility. There were even times where he was the mature one and Mordecai was being unreasonable. It was also shown that Rigby used to lack self-esteem due to his parents originally favoring his younger brother Don and paying very little attention to what he had accomplished. By the time he gone back to and graduated high school and helped save the universe from Anti-Pops, his family was extremely proud of him, which left Rigby flattered.

After the 25-year time skip in the series finale, Rigby is shown to have become an incredibly matured adult and a great husband and father, as shown when he teaches one of his daughters how to play video games. He even acknowledges Pop's sacrifice and how none of their friends would be living their current lives if not for him. Alongside Mordecai, Rigby stopped saying his catchphrases sometime after he quit his job at the park.

Villainous Acts[]

Season 1[]

  • The Power: He steals a magic keyboard from a wizard and inadvertently sends Skips to the moon with it. He, along with Mordecai, also used the keyboard to con Benson and Pops.
  • Just Set Up the Chairs: He ignored Skips' note advising the reader to avoid connecting the red wire to the blue wire and did the deed anyway, activating The Destroyer of Worlds game, just so he could play it. As a result of his actions, two people who were hired to come to the park and the special entertainment along with some children were turned to ash.
  • Death Punchies: He wanted to get vengeance on everyone who beat him at punchies all the time. He also messed up Mordecai's room, damaged most of the park, and turned the other park workers into his slaves. His actions could have killed his fellow workers and put the entire park in danger.
  • Free Cake: He and Mordecai lie to Benson about Skips wanting a surprise party and he tries to eat the chocolate cake that was for Skips' party. Rigby then startles Skips thus interrupting the spirit dance ritual which he does every year on his birthday to maintain his immortality, Which almost lead to his death by the Guardians of Eternal Youth. When they ask for the cake in exchange for Skips' life, Rigby initially hesitates and even tries to talk Mordecai out of it before the latter talks some sense into him since Skips almost died on his birthday.
  • Meat Your Maker: Rigby ignored Benson's request to not grill hot dogs for a barbecue, and ends up setting the grill on fire and destroying the hot dogs. After he accidentally gets himself and Mordecai locked in the meat locker, they make it out with the help of some talking hot dogs Rigby made a deal with. However it's revealed the hot dogs plan to eat Rigby as well as Benson, Pops, Skips, and Mordecai, Rigby manages to get the hotdogs to eat each other by spraying them with mustard. Afterwards, he tricks everyone into believing it was Benson's fault for ordering premium hotdogs on the internet.
  • Grilled Cheese Deluxe: He steals a grilled cheese sandwich from Benson and lied to Mordecai about buying it. He also went on with the scheme to lie to the astronauts.
  • The Unicorns Have Got to Go: He deliberately brought in a gang of unicorns, which caused mass property damage in the house. This, along with his horrible treatment of Mordecai in this episode, made fans consider this episode to be one of his worst appearances.
  • Don: Rigby antagonizes his younger brother Don because he is bigger, richer, and friendlier. He even told him he hated him because he was born. This leads to him sending Don away and nearly destroying the park by failing to finish the park's audit by himself, as he was too jealous of Don to ask for help. As revealed later on, however, he does have some valid reasons for his jealously towards Don. Even then though, he still could have handled it better.

Season 2[]

  • It's Time: He repeatedly taunts Mordecai by making him jealous when he announces his plan to go out on a date with Margaret and kept pushing his buttons, but he took it too far until Mordecai snapped. He finally received his karma when Mordecai accidentally pushes him from the microwave and he’s instantly vaporised.
  • Appreciation Day: He and Mordecai edit the Book of Park Records to make themselves seem like better employees than they already are. This leads to the creation of Snowballs the Ice Monster and the near destruction of the park.
  • Do Me a Solid: He didn't want to hang out with Eileen, so he made Mordecai do him 10 solids, which were humiliating. Some of these include, putting hot sauce on a burrito, treating him like a slave, and recording him as he did something that is really embarrassing. Rigby did, however, redeem himself by destroying the tape, restoring his and Mordecai's friendship.
  • Over the Top: He relentlessly plays into Skips' insecurities by pranking him with an arm gadget allowing him to effortlessly beat him in arm wrestling. He also fooled the others into thinking that he was the stronger of the two. On top of this, he continued his scheme even after realizing that Skips was losing confidence in himself. Skips reveals the PlayCo Armboy in front of everyone that Rigby was cheating, Then arm wrestles Rigby and smashes him against the table, Rigby is then accidentally murdered by Skips in a fit of rage.
  • Karaoke Video: He (along with Mordecai) excitedly manage to accidentally trash talk Benson, Pops, and Skips. Their attempts at getting away with this result in them starting a bar fight and ruining the Karaoke Night.

Season 3[]

  • Bet to be Blonde: Cheats on a video game during a bet so he would win, and Mordecai would have to get a humilating haircut for a week. He even ignored Skips' advice to tell Mordecai the truth, until Mordecai managed to force him to confess his cheating.
  • Stick Hockey: He calls football lame, and essentially cons Benson into getting back his and Mordecai’s stick hockey.
  • Skips Strikes: He bets the souls of himself, Mordecai, Benson, and Pops with Death if they lost a bowling match for a bowling bowl made out of souls.
  • Fortune Cookie: He switches his fortune cookie with Benson's to get good luck, putting Benson through many terrible predicaments. In the end, it was shown that Muscle Man switched Rigby's cookie earlier.
  • The Best Burgers in the World: He deliberately gave Benson a hard time over having to do a week's worth of work and tried to disobey him several times.
  • Replaced: He along with Mordecai, sabotaged Chad and Jeremy's attempt to get their job. They also bragged to Benson after driving them away.
  • Diary: After he accidentally breaks Margaret's diary, Skips uses a ritual to restore it that would involve them closing their eyes during the process. Despite being warned to close them, Rigby opened his eyes anyways which unleashed the guardian of Margaret's secrets, who wrecked havoc in the city and nearly killed them all because Rigby wouldn't keep his eyes closed during the ritual.

Season 4[]

  • Do or Diaper: He (along with Muscle Man) make a bet - if Mordecai can kiss Margaret by midnight Friday, Muscle Man will wear a diaper for a week. However, if Mordecai fails, which he has to wear a diaper for a week. Despite supporting Mordecai, he was upset when he was happy about his punishment.
  • Cool Cubed: Pressures Thomas into drinking an extremely cold drink in order to make a "brain freeze face" resulting in Thomas nearly freezing to death. He also tried to get out of saving him because of his cowardice.

Season 5[]

  • Wall Buddy: He divided the room with Wall Buddy, leaving all the trash on Mordecai's side. On top of this, he didn't clean up his room despite Benson saying he would fire both if they didn't clean it up, guilt-tripped Mordecai for not helping him, and threw him under the bus at the end despite calling him out for doing it earlier. Fans consider this his worst appearance to date.
  • Return of Mordecai and the Rigbys: He lied to the park gang about free pizza at the Battle of the Bands competition. He confesses his lie, but it leads to them destroying each others' instruments and eventually losing and getting heat stroke as a result.
  • Benson’s Car: He broke Benson’s car window, and he made the problem worse because he and Mordecai lied to Benson again!
  • Paint Job: He destroys the house even more when trying to fix said house. He even made Benson blow up his own car (no wonder Benson decided to take away his and Mordecai’s paychecks for half a year)!

Season 6[]

  • Lunch Break: He and Mordecai trick Benson into getting them a 10-foot long sub sandwich, which cost him 85 dollars much to Benson's outrage.

Season 7[]

  • The Lunch Club: After he ruins Mr. Maellard's lunch, he and Benson have to write Maellard a letter. They have fun instead and Benson and Rigby leave Maellard an insulting note with both of them deciding to resign. They are only able to get off scot-free thanks to Pops, who lies to his father by saying they wrote nice things about him and then eats the note to make sure he doesn't find out otherwise.

Season 8[]

  • Mordeby and Rigbecai: In this episode, Mordecai and Rigby accidentally enter a teleporter and start turning into each other. After trying to switch back, they end up with nearly switched bodies (Mordecai now has Rigby's small torso and limbs, while Rigby is tall and has Mordecai's arms). While Mordecai is horrified of being a "tiny little freak" with a "weak little body", Rigby is ecstatic to finally be as tall as his brother and beats Mordecai at "Punchies" (a game he always loses at, and a round which Mordecai didn't agree to). Afterwards he starts enjoying his new body and refuses to switch back with Mordecai. He has to be forcefully restrained by both Mordecai and Muscle Man and tied up with rope. While Muscle Man is preparing the teleporter, Rigby breaks free and attempts to stop him. In the process of trying to shove Rigby in, he grabs Muscle Man's shirt and all three of them fall into the machine. While Mordecai is restored to normal and Muscle Man is unaffected, Rigby is transformed into a large hybrid of all three of them. He punches Muscle Man and escapes into the park to begin destroying it.

Regular Show: The Movie[]

  • After Rigby was rejected from College U, he found out that Mordecai was accepted. Scared of their friendship ending from the separation, Rigby forged a rejection letter for Mordecai so that they would stay friends. Once Mordecai found this out many years later, he called himself an idiot for not seeing that Rigby was holding him back, and ended their friendship. In the original timeline, this caused Mordecai to eventually side with Mr. Ross, but when Future Mordecai told present Mordecai to patch things up, he eventually did. This is often considered to be the worst thing Rigby has ever done.
