Rion is an antagonist in the second half of the second season of Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon.
She was voiced by Saki Fujita in the Japanese Version and Lisa Reimold in the English Version.
Appearance[]
Rion is a young girl with short rubine red hair with bangs, verdigris eyes and fair skin. Atop of her head she wears a cream maid headband. She sports a pair of brown Qilin ears, not unlike Inuyasha's canine ears. She also has frizzling red stripes beneath each of her eyes, and salmon pink lips. She is usually seen barefooted.
Personality[]
Rion is usually a kind, carefree, and thoughtful individual, much more so than her father and aunt, in that she usually cares so much for all sentient beings and the natural world as a whole, begging the protagonists to save the world she loved. However, after being deceived by Osamu Kirin and becoming one with the Grim Butterfly, that kind side of her changed as she became cruel, rotten, hateful, and bitter about how selfish her father was and how she could not stand the fact that there was always fighting, believing that there was no peace whatsoever. But then when she started to come to the realization that she still held love for her father, she turned back to her old self and reconciled with him.
Biography[]
Rion was originally very close to her father Kirinmaru, greatly enjoying travelling the world with him and seeing all kinds of sights in the ancient world. She also witnessed many of her father's battles, and would always smile for him after his victory. One night however, she was the sole witness to her father's defeat at the hands of Tōga, the Inu no Taishō and father of Sesshōmaru and Inuyasha. Detecting Rion's presence, Tōga spared her father and cautioned him against bringing his daughter to such battles, a sentiment echoed by Kirinmaru's own sister. Regardless, Kirinmaru continued to bring Rion to his battles.
One night, he slew many samurai, and was caught off-guard when a half-demon named Sakasa vowed revenge for the death of his master and seized Rion, holding his weapon to her neck. Arrogantly believing he had no need for concern, Kirinmaru decapitated the half-demon, but was taken by surprise when Sakasa's headless corpse impaled Rion through the heart, killing her. Unable to accept the loss of his child, Kirinmaru bound Rion's soul to a doll made of her bones and clay and sealed her away for 600 years on Mount Musubi. During her imprisonment, she would be forced to visit her father in dream form many times over by use of a Dream Butterfly.
After six centuries she was saved by the three Half-Demon Princesses and conveyed her mind and soul into a clay doll which contained her bones and grave's soil and achieved an artificial human-looking form much like Kikyō. She then became a traveling companion of Riku, she then also traveled with Towa in their short adventures as her aunt was threatening to put an end to a half-demon girl's life. She later travelled with her father's incarnation, Riku, to obtain a Kyūyōkon fruit to help put a stop to Kirinmaru's plans. She was misled by her father's second incarnation, Osamu Kirin, and tricked into giving up the fruit and summoning the Grim Butterfly, a giant yōkai capable of destroying all life. She was later brought out of this state by the three other princesses, conquered Osamu Kirin's sadistic spirit, and ascended to the afterlife after reconciling with a dying Kirinmaru.
