The Riptocs are the main antagonists of the Spyro the Dragon franchise.
They are a tribe of dinosaurs led by and named after Ripto, who leads them in his goals to conquer Avalar and defeat Spyro the Dragon.
History[]
Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage![]
The Riptocs first appear after Hunter accidentally opens a portal to Magma Crater, causing Ripto, Crush, and Gulp to be summoned to the land of Avalar. Ripto, sensing that there are no dragons in the realm, decides to conquer Avalar and summons an army of his kind to invade the different parts of the land.
Eventually, Spyro drives the Riptocs out of Avalar and defeats Ripto, thus saving Avalar.
Spyro 2: Season of Flame and Spyro: Attack of the Rhynocs[]
Ripto returns as the main antagonist of these games alongside Crush and Gulp. However, he takes over the Rhynocs following the Sorceress' defeat, and uses them to replace the rest of his Riptoc army.
Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly[]
Ripto invades the World of Dragons, seeking to capture the young dragons' magical dragonfly sidekicks. However, his spell backfires, causing the dragonflies to scatter. As a result. Ripto summons his Riptocs to capture the dragonflies on his behalf. Eventually, Spyro rescues all of the dragonflies and defeats Ripto once again.
Spyro Orange: The Cortex Conspiracy[]
In this game, Ripto teams up with Dr. Neo Cortex to defeat Spyro and Crash Bandicoot. Ripto has his Riptocs disguise themselves as the two heroes via Cortex genetically modifying them, and uses them to trick them into battling each other. However, upon realizing that they've been duped, Spyro and Crash instead join forces and defeat their two nemeses once again.
