Ririka Umezawa is an antagonist from the manga series Choujin X. She and her partner in crime Ricardo Terror were hired by Noh Mask to kidnap Tokio Kurohara.
Appearance[]
Umezawa is a 27 year-old blonde woman. She always wears a mask, which covers up her heavily-scarred mouth. Umezawa appears to have a preference for black clothing, as she's shown wearing it and, moreover, Ricardo implies that wearing a white mask is an annoyance to her.
Personality[]
In contrast to her jovial partner Ricardo, Umezawa is extremely serious and business-like, spending little time on hobbies or pastimes. Unlike most other antagonists in Choujin X, Umezawa spends no time on banter or conversation in her battle with Tokio and Ely, instead immediately going all-out and taking them out as efficiently as possible. She also seems to have zero regard for the wellbeing of bystanders, throwing a bomb in the middle of a public area in a ploy for Tokio to take himself out by jumping on it. However, Umezawa is not devoid of emotion. Her heavily-scarred mouth is seemingly a major source of frustration for her, and she'll easily get pissed at anyone who sees her without it. Azuma, for instance, had the misfortune of seeing Umezawa without her mask, prompting her to kill him in an especially violent and brutal way.
Biography[]
Umezawa awakened to her powers as a choujin in high school and from an early age was heavily involved in criminal activities. She was the mastermind in the Minami Bank Robbery, which has been nicknamed as the "Umezawa Hundred Million Heist" due to her role in it. Eventually, she teamed up with her friend and partner in crime Ricardo, and the two of them have been working together ever since.
At some point, she and Ricardo were approached by Noh Mask for a job: kidnap Tokio Kurohara. Umezawa and Ricardo began to trail Tokio throughout his day-to-day life, piecing together his personality and weaknesses. Eventually, Umezawa jumped him and Ely Otta after the two of them exited a train. Tokio and Ely quickly realized that they were no match for Umezawa, and attempted to flee. They were unable to get away, however, as Umezawa threw a bomb onto a train platform, prompting Tokio to jump on it and take himself out.
Umezawa then turned Tokio's body into paper and folded him up, bringing him back to her and Ricardo's hideout. While the two of them prepared to bring Tokio to Noh Mask, Umezawa guarded the outside of the building and Ricardo monitored Tokio. Eventually, Umezawa was confronted by Tokio's best friend, Azuma Higashi, who had come to rescue his friend. Azuma, not having any powers of his own, didn't stand a chance against Umezawa. However, Azuma managed to remove Umezawa's mask, exposing her heavily-scarred mouth. Enraged, Umezawa proceeded to kill Azuma in an especially brutal manner, slicing him into pieces with her paper shards.
Ricardo, who had sensed that Umezawa was angry, came outside to try to de-escalate the situation, but Azuma had already been torn into pieces by the time he came outside. Ricardo expressed some sympathy for the teenager and gave Umezawa another mask as a replacement. However, Ricardo left Tokio unmonitored after coming outside, allowing the teenager to make his escape. On his way out, however, Tokio noticed Azuma's mutilated corpse, causing him to fly into a blind rage and attack Umezawa with an especially potent fury. Ricardo, not wanting Tokio to go into a chaos state, used his dread powers to scare him into unconsciousness by showing him a physical manifestation of his fears, in this case a grotesque representation of Azuma's body.
Umezawa and Ricardo were then attacked by Ely Otta from Yamato Mori, angry that she was unable to save Azuma. Before Umezawa could confront Ely, however, Azuma's body began to come back together. In truth Azuma had been awakened as a choujin from Noh Mask's drug, and Umezawa killing him had forced him into chaos state. Azuma, who had little self-control to begin with, began to attack other people present at random, punting off Ricardo's head with a single kick. Umezawa attempted to take him out, but because of Azuma's armored exterior and his immense speed, she was unable to put up a fight against her. Azuma then disposed of Umezawa in an especially brutal manner: kicking straight through her chest while restraining her arms, forcing her to bleed out.
Although Umezawa and Ricardo both survived due to being choujin, they were forced to flee due to Azuma's immense strength in chaos state. In Umezawa's case, her injuries were so brutal that she was forced to take time off to recuperate, despite possessing the ability to raise. While recovering, she and Ricardo met with Noh Mask to whom they reported their experiences. Umezawa expressed a desire to take revenge on Azuma for humiliating her. Noh Mask said she and Ricardo would get their chance, but only after she's recovered.
Following the timeskip, Umezawa and Ricardo have once again found work with Noh Mask. Following Tokio's, Ely's, and Azuma's fight against (and subsequent rescue of) a chaosified Palma, Umezawa sends paper birds into her lab to destroy the leftover samples of the Xember drug. Afterward, she and Ricardo are seen talking about their employment to Noh Mask, with Ricardo asking Umezawa if she trusts him. Umezawa responds that she doesn't, but that she doesn't need to as long as the pay is good.
