Risa (known as the Queen of Spades) is a major antagonist in Alice in Borderland. She is a game master that only appears in the Season 2 of TV series, while in the Second Stage of the manga, the Queen of Spades game is only mentioned.
She is portrayed by Chihiro Yamamoto. In the English dub, she is voiced by Jennifer Miller.
Personality[]
Though not much is revealed about Risa's past, she is shown to be a confident, determined, strong-willed, charismatic person and a natural leader at heart. This is shown in the way she commanded her team and persuaded people to stay on her side with the promise of survival.
She is cynical about the real world and people, believing that people will always chose their own survival over others, as she monologues to Usagi about how no one truly cares about a child when their own lives are at risk. She also values her freedom and feels that she can be freer in the Borderlands than in the real "repressive world", which is hinted as the reason she decided to become a citizen.
Biography[]
Risa is first seen in the Fifth Episode of the Second Season, where she is revealed to be the Queen of Spades, she is the king of her own team and decides to appoint Kota as the King of the Challenger's team.
When the game starts, the Queen Team player gradually capture a bunch of people over to the Queen's side and eventually take the lead. When they do, she has a little talk with the team and she orders that they bring Arisu over to their side, saying that he's "her type", ultimately revealing her crush on Arisu. Unfortunately for her this crush is one-sided as Arisu already has feelings for Usagi.
When Usagi tries to protect Arisu from Risa, the two battle it out and Risa starts monologuing to Usagi about how no one cares about Kota and that everyone is just looking out for themselves like humans do. Usagi patronizes Risa, essentially telling Risa that she only feels the way she feels because she's never known anyone before who was precious to her. This angers Risa and she kicks Usagi telling her that she despises hypocrites like Usagi and that if she truly cared about Kota she would die with him.
After much strategizing and teamwork from Arisu and Usagi with the players they captured from the Queen Team, the Challenger team successfully captures all of the remaining Queen Team members including the members that started on the Queen Team.
In the end, Risa concedes and is surprised at how they managed to sway the players to their side and she talks about why she likes the Borderlands. Arisu is begging to get answers out of Risa, but Risa keeps deflecting and eventually when the game is officially over she says farewell and jumps off the edge while getting lasered to death.
