Rita Repulsa is the main antagonist in the 2022 BOOM! Studios/IDW Publishing crossover comic, Godzilla vs. the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers.
She is the archenemy of the Power Rangers and an evil space witch who desires to conquer the universe, however, upon obtaining an ancient artifact called the "Multiversal Focus", she ultimately intends to rule the multiverse upon conquering one universe after another. However, she would end up teleporting herself and her minions into the world of Godzilla.
She then finds herself allied with the Xiliens and summoned tons of their monsters respectively to defeat both the rangers and Godzilla, however, she then plotted to betray them in order to get hold of their strongest monsters and use them to be unleashed from universe to universe, causing death and destruction as they go and conquer each and every one of them.
Personality[]
Similar to the mainstream counterpart, Rita is an unpleasant, wicked space witch who desires nothing more than to conquer the entire universe. However, this version, while rather bombastic and screechy like the original, is a lot more sadistic and ruthless, not to mention willing to commit murder in a brutal fashion such as how she and her minions massacred an abbey of monks.
Compared to how she throws out her anger onto her minions, instead, she looks down on one of them, particularly Finster for example as she called him a "worm" and a "little maggot". She is also ambitious and deceitful, upon gaining the Multiversal Focus and witnessing Godzilla and the monsters he fought, she was willing to betray anyone just for her own evil uses and plotted to go on a multiversal spree of destruction and death. She also seems to throw temper tantrums whenever things did not go her own or when "bad things" happen to "bad people" like her.
Biography[]
Rita and her minions first appeared massacring a group of monks guarding the ancient artifact, the Multiversal Focus (a gem capable of channeling and controlling the space-time continuum across all of reality within the multiverse whoever wields it), within an underground temple, intending to use the gem for her own evil uses. Unbeknownst to her or her minions that the Green Ranger, Tommy Oliver, followed them and tries to put a stop to Rita's schemes before having to fight Goldar, which Rita uses her staff to absorb and uncover the secrets of the gem's magic and its secrets of all reality. Once she succeeds in doing so, her first use of the gem was to teleport herself and her forces to a universe where the Power Rangers never existed, all while also teleporting Tommy with her before arrogantly claiming she can now bend all reality on a whim.
Upon arriving in the universe of Godzilla, she and her minions began wondering about this universe and their current location here, though didn't quite become a bother for her if it meant now making plans to conquer said universe. Unfortunately for her, she and her minions then witnessed Godzilla fighting against Megalon, amazed by such "beautiful, awful engines of destruction" as she described before having to sense another presence before her, saying she isn't the only one interested in annihilation and destruction. She would find the Xiliens' spaceship floating above the fight between Godzilla and Megalon as she and her group teleported themselves into the ship.
Rita and her forces would eventually attack the Xiliens to seize control before asking one of their members to take her to their leader. Further witnessing Godzilla finishing off and killing Megalon, Rita proceeds to find a use to controlling Godzilla and making him an addition to her "arsenal" until the Supreme Controller of Planet X, the leader of the Xiliens, warned of overestimating Godzilla and introduced himself afterward. He explains to Rita about their intentions to conquer Earth but Godzilla got in their way numerous times, which Rita responds now knowing this Earth has somewhat of a "protector" before questioning the commander's intentions, which he intends to claim Earth of its natural resources in the name of their homeworld.
Rita then offers a mutual bargain with the Xiliens, allying with them upon knowing they use their own set of monsters in this world and could care less about their intentions. She continues watching Godzilla before realizing the Green Ranger and the DragonZord fighting it, which she then tries to brainwash Godzilla into doing her bidding and destroy Tommy, unfortunately, as the Supreme Commander stated, Godzilla, along with other monsters the Xiliens control, are impossible to control, which the former was resistant of Rita's spells, and later is left unimpressed with the commander's explanation of summoning countless monsters onto the Earth but failed against Godzilla, believing the fact they never ounce to mentally dominate them and dismissed their methods as "pathetic".
When the other Rangers teleported to the world of Godzilla to rescue Tommy, Rita ordered Goldar to capture the Green Ranger for plans that are rather diabolical, she then witnessed the MegaZord and Godzilla fighting each other, much to her sadistic delight before noticing the commander's stoic expression as always. Responding that emotion is wasted and Godzilla is never dispatched once, Rita offered him advice of "kick your enemies when they're down" before Goldar returned with Tommy in his hands, along with his Power Coin and Morpher, as Rita would then proceed to force her former pawn into seeing the "demise of the Power Rangers" before reassuring him that she'll gain full control over him to where he won't even miss his friends.
Rita would then feel surprised to see Godzilla having a little fight within him when the ships sent down by the Commander following her advice to take down both the MegaZord and Godzilla, sending him to the bottom of the sea for now, which Rita thought to have claimed crawling down to "die", much to the Commander's doubts. Once the Rangers infiltrated the Xilien's mothership, they began fighting the Xiliens and Rita's minions with Rita keeping Tommy at bay before taunting the Rangers on making a very difficult decision to make, which she allowed the Xiliens time to unleash one of their monsters, Gigan and started attacking the amusement park, one that held many refugees there. With no other choice, the Rangers chose to save the refugees and fight against Gigan, which the monster has proven to be a challenge for them.
During the battle, Rita is seen likely trying to control Gigan but presumably failed and decides to make the battle seemingly "unfair" for the Rangers, as she ordered Finster to create several monsters from their world out of pettiness. Just then Rhinoblaster and Eye Guy, two of Rita's original monsters made by Finster, proceed to fight the MegaZord and as the Rangers struggled to fight against their past enemies, Rita proceeds to torturously cast Tommy under her spell once more, making him her Green Ranger as she chanted. Despite her efforts, Tommy resists her control over him thanks to his incredible willpower as Rita soon decides another time that she'll break him soon as before. She then has Goldar and Scorpina take Tommy into a prison cell before Tommy told her that he believes the other Rangers will stop her.
Unfortunately, Rita would proceed to torment Tommy and reveal her evil plans to him, knowing the Xilien's monsters and her own would make her unstoppable, she plotted to betray the Xiliens after she helped them conquer the Earth while destroying the Rangers for good, then take total control of the monsters the Xiliens had in their arsenal while finding the right spell to subjugate them onto her grasp. Once she does, she'll unleash those monsters, including her own, to wreak havoc and cause destruction across her and the Rangers' universe to where no amount of power would withstand the monsters at her aid. She is then called out by Tommy and how insane she's gone and believed the others would stop her, only for Rita to mock him and say there are infinite spells from infinite universes while believing none of them will help him as no one else would help them in the fight against Rhinoblast and Eye Guy until Godzilla reappeared from the depths of the sea.
Rita would end up witnessing the change within the battle as the Rangers and Godzilla work together, frustrated and start throwing a fit on how unfair it seemed before Finster brought up Gigan running from the battlefield, frustrating Rita more to where she won't let her multiversal conquest stop there and demandingly ordered the Xiliens to unleash a wider batch of monsters to not let the Rangers or Godzilla win. The commander, however, reiterated the fact that Gigan was their most compliant and warned of how summoning many powerful ones would be risky and dangerous, Rita retorts that it takes Finster time to make sculptures out of the same monsters she uses and could care less about compliance but chaos itself as the commander goes along with the command before saying, like with Godzilla, the Xiliens are not puppets to her use.
She then sends Scorpina to deal with the Rangers and Godzilla in battle alongside another batch of the Xiliens' monsters, Megaguirus, Kamacuras, and Kumonga while reassuring the commander she has no interest in controlling him or his race, let alone intending to betray them, if it meant defeating the rangers instantly. Unfortunately, one out of the three would attack Scorpina, something the commander pointed out to Rita again regarding how they cannot be controlled still, which Rita insults how they never conquered their Earth due to a complete lack of "chain of command". Fed up with the battle, Rita threatens the commander by demanding the most terrible of the monsters to fight the Rangers and Godzilla, which the commander refuses without any absolute certainty should they be victorious while calling Rita too rash to comply with, angering the space witch to where she then takes over their ship, knocked out the Xiliens, and has Finster unleash their worst monster, King Ghidorah.
As King Ghidorah was unleashed, the three-headed dragon begins to overwhelm and dominate both the Rangers and their MegaZord, alongside Godzilla, in battle, much to Rita's amusement. She then expresses how impressive Ghidorah was able to take down the Rangers and drain Godzilla's energy, right before the monster began targeting and attacking the spaceship, which the commander once again warned that Ghidorah is unpredictable to tame. Rita then orders Finster to send back Ghidorah where it came from once it manages to fend off the Rangers and Godzilla, though Finster doesn't know how before she had no choice but to have the commander help her if he doesn't want Ghidorah further attack them and the ship, though the teleportation controls ended up malfunctioning due to Ghidorah's attacks. Instead, she sends Goldar out into the battlefield and has Finster make every last monster in his set, sending all of them to fight off and seize control over King Ghidorah.
As soon as Goldar, along with Scorpina, followed by Snizzard, Grumble Bee, and Slippery Shark were able to fight off King Ghidorah while proclaiming her next plans of conquering countless worlds. Though in an unfortunate turn of events, it backfired as Ghidorah withstand and overpowered Goldar and the rest in battle, defeating them easily one by one, much to Rita's furious reaction to where she berated Finster for answering her question and demands the latter if there are any monsters left to use, which he responded that they used up all of their only available resources, much to the commander retorting Rita for not following his advice and his warnings. Just then, Tommy escapes with the help of a fellow Xilien and aids his fellow Rangers and Godzilla in battle with King Ghidorah, and once they were able to defeat the three-headed dragon with their combined effort, Godzilla proceeds to blast its atomic breath at the Xilien's spaceship.
Not intending to remain still and be destroyed, Rita tries to use the Multiversal Focus to save herself once her plans for conquest was foiled, however, the gem ended up being fractured when the ship was unbalanced. Nevertheless, Rita risked without any certainty as she teleported herself and her minions out of the ship, leaving the Xiliens behind to die without any concern.
This eventually would be her greatest downfall as after the events, with the Rangers back home in the command center and Godzilla reigns victorious over ending the Xiliens for good, Rita and her minions are left wondering between dimensions in the multiverse and with no use of going anywhere now that the Multiversal Focus is shattered, leaving them in a fate ambiguous to their conclusion of whether she and her minions will return one day.
