“ | The food made for everyone at a buffet is never any good. The idea that interaction with others is the greatest spice is nothing but a lie. Food should always be specialized for the specific person who will eat it. The food one eats becomes one's flesh, blood, and soul, so controlling one's food can turn one into a beast or god. | „ |
~ Rizou Nakimoto. |
Rizou Nakimoto is the main antagonist of the manga and anime A Certain Scientific Accelerator, a spin-off of the A Certain Magical Index franchise.
He is a member of Academy City's Board of Directors, being in charge of ensuring the city's food supply and internal security. He's also the main financial backer of Disciplinary Action and has been involved with many organizations from the dark side of Academy City.
He's voiced by Hinata Tadokoro in Japanese and Brian Mathis in English.
Appearance[]
Nakimoto is a middle-aged man with black hair that he wears in a ponytail, exposing his forehead and forming a noticeable widow's peak. He also has a small beard around his chin. Nakimoto is seen wearing a purple suit with a black tie and white cuffs.
Personality[]
Rizou Nakimoto is a stern, imposing and refined man with an arrogant demeanor, often speaking to others in a polite yet condescending manner. He is shown to be extremely paranoid and cautious to the point where he only rides in an armored subway train tailored for his own use when needed for personal travels.
Nakimoto is a rather pragmatic and uncaring person who will discard anything in order to further his goals or tie up loose ends, as shown when he decided to cut financial ties with DA and employ the Scavengers to get rid of them since he was having more and more trouble with them. Nakimoto's most notable trait is his love of fine dining, given his role in overseeing the food supply in Academy City. He usually uses food-related metaphors in his speech when conversing with others. He will also praise those provide him with an excellent meal.
Due to his obsession with food, Nakimoto is rumored to partake in cannibalism, but the truth is so much worse. In reality, Nakimoto is a deeply monstrous and twisted psychopath who likes to flavor his food with liquid body crystal extracted from kidnapped esper children hidden on aboard his cruise-liner. He even mobilizes an unique group of espers known as Full Course to capture and extract the nectar from espers like Matsuri Himegi.
Biography[]
While not much of Nakimoto's past is clear, what is known is that he is member of Academy City's governing board and he's the primary overseer of the city's food supply and also finances many of the defensive forces that protect the city's infrastructure. How and when he became a member of the Board of Directors isn't known. He eventually came into contact with the militant group known as DA and became one of the group's primary financial benefactors.
In his first appearance, he is seen eating a fine meal aboard his personal subway train and is notified about the chaotic scene caused by DA at the Heaven Canceller's hospital. Rizou communicates with his associate over the phone and they both agree that DA has gone too far with their actions and decides it would in their best interest to dispose of them in order for them not to continue being a liability to him and his plans. He also decides to use the Scavengers to eliminate them. Rizou gestures to his blonde assistant that the medical chef's work was satisfactory and tells her to bring the next dish in. The assistant says that they've brought whale shark fin that can be used for the dish, which greatly pleases Rizou.
Rizou later plays a major role in the second arc of the series, as he hires Full Course to acquire a special ingredient for his dinner party aboard the luxury ship called Escoffier. Rizou asks a man kneeling how he makes up for it, to which he says Full Course is already collecting an "ingredient". The courier who will deliver this "ingredient" is apparently a girl, who will apparently provide a wonderful flavoring for the party. Hearing this, Rizou warns the man that he hopes it goes well for the sake of his survival as he leaves alone in the empty banquet hall. Full Course later succeeds in capturing the girl named Matsuri Himegi and Rizou tells them to extract the ingredient from her at once.
During his banquet, Rizou is informed that Accelerator had attacked his train and ponders the reasons for this. He later observes Full Course's battle with Accelerator who had boarded the ship in order to rescue Matsuri and take Mami Tobio with him to reunite her with her sister. After Accelerator defeats Full Course and destroys the Escoffier, Rizou escapes to the docks and is picked up by an armored car with his secretary. Looking back at the ship, he muttered that this would cost Accelerator. As the convoy drove off, he asked his secretary about the in the total losses they had sustained (the loss of the train and ship being equivalent to 60% of the yearly profits) and gave her orders on the actions for recovery, but the discussion was cut short as the convoy was attacked by Accelerator, who tore off the roof above them and gave Nakimoto an ultimatum; tell him everything about his organization and turn himself in to Anti-Skill, or die there and then, with Nakimoto choosing the former.
It's unknown what happened to Nakimoto afterwards but it can be assumed that he was arrested by Anti-Skill and lost his position as a board director.
