Road Kamelot is a major character in the manga and anime series D.Gray-man. She is the ninth disciple of the Noah Family, and the current reincarnation of Road.
She is the eldest Noah member, having lived more than 35 years and is the Noah of "Dreams". She along with the Earl are the only survivors of Nea attack prior to the main series. Due to her actions as the first Noah to be introduced in the series she starts off as a major antagonist but as the series progress, Road starts to mellow down in her actions. She is also infatuated with Allen Walker so much that at one point she kissed him and starts to become less villainous. She cares for her family a lot and prioritize them above everything else.
She is voiced by Ai Shimizu in the first anime and by Yui Kondou in Hallow in Japanese and by Cherami Leigh in English.
Appearance[]
Despite being the one of the oldest members of the Noah, Road looks to be somewhere in her early to mid-teens. She has purple-blue, spiky hair, as well as dark eyes, which turn amber when she is in her Noah form. Unlike the other members of the Noah Family, she and her brother Wisely have two irises: one inside the other. When not in her Noah form, her skin is quite pale. Initially, she typically wore Gothic-Punk Lolita style dresses, and occasionally her school uniform. However, since the Noah Family started wearing their white uniforms, Road wears a short white dress with purple ribbons wrapped around her arms, as well as ripped, stripy stockings.
Road can also take the form of a doll, allowing her to easily conceal herself and be carried by an ally. While in this form, she retains her abilities and can still speak and move, and she still resembles her regular form.
Personality[]
Road has many sides to her personality, ranging from playful and sweet to sadistic and secretive. She always behave in a mock-childish manner despite being the eldest Noah.
She has shown high affection to her family as she cherishes her family above all else. When displaying her child-like personality she usually keeps herself entertained at all times usually by the Earl or Lero and occasionally by Tyki Mikk as well. Ever since meeting Allen, she developed a deep fondness for him, even kissing him and comforting him on two separate occasions. She is extremely protective to those she cares for, willing to endanger herself to protect them and keep them safe.
Despite this, Road has shown signs of sadism and seems to enjoy seeing other suffer. She has tortured multiple people either physiologically or mentally, including stabbing Allen left eye with her candles, forced an Akuma to self-destruct just to anger Allen, and nailing Miranda's hands to a clock. Road outright stated she detest humans so much considering them to be below her, and doesn't even care for them.
Road doesn't stop there, as she can even become more dangerous when her affection turns into possessiveness eliciting a sadistic response when someone harms those she care for. This is best seen when Allen attempted to exorcise the Noah within Tyki; despite her affection for Allen, she chose to punish him first by breaking Lavi's mind to bits and force him to fight his friend and then she urges Allen to kill him, all the while holding Lenalee and Chaoji hostage.
Road has also displayed a more serious, concerned side when it comes to family matters; especially the case of Nea and the Earl. Road has many secrets that she keeps even from her family, this is shown when Wisely pointed out Tyki's resemblance to Nea and Road told her brother to be quiet about it.
History[]

Much of Road past is a mystery especially her true age, but she became a Noah at least 35 years ago. At that time she also met the fourteenth Noah Nea D. Campbell as well as the current Bookman who was allied with the Noah clan. After Nea betrayal to the family, he killed all the other Noah except for Road and the Earl. She was also present by Mana side when Nea tried to kill him and was protecting Mana. As the Noah began to be reborn into the current generation, one of the newly-awoken Noah; Sheril Kamelot was very fond of Road and extremely protective of her, he adopted Road as his daughter, she also became the niece of Tyki Mikk and much later the older sister of Wisely Kamelot. As part of the attempt to maintain a normal facade, Road began to attend a local school, despite being the oldest of the Noah, with the Earl paying for her school life.
About 8 years prior to the start of the series, Road approached the Garvey Circus (the circus which Red/Allen and Mana was performing), she did this in order to check on Mana Walker. who was travelling with the troupe, there she also came across Cross Marian who was watching the show from a balcony. Cross asked her if she intends to take Mana back, Road replied that in his state it would be pointless to do so; he must first regain his memories and become the Millennium Earl.
Cross in response accused the Noah Family of using the Earl and even brings up their hatred for "the Pillar". The mere mention of it triggered the Noah memory within Road causing her to fall to her knees and become mentally unstable. According to Cross, the pillar does not exist in "this world", but Road tearfully states that the pillar had caused the disappearance of everything, and that he has no idea of the despair one feels when the world ends. Before the Noah memory take over Road, Cross holds Road by the face and tries to remind her that she is "Road Kamelot" and tells her not to be consumed by her inner-Noah, Road soon teleports away.
Some time after Mana lost his memories, Road is seen sitting on a building licking candy and watching him and Allen travelling together. She comments to herself that the journey of the Millennium Earl and an Exorcist will be a tricky one.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Natural abilities as a Noah: As a Noah, Road has absolute command over all the Akuma as well as destroying Innocence by merely touching them, she is also immune to the Akuma blood virus which is normally fatal to humans. Similar to the other Noah, all her abilities are based off Dark Matter. Uniquely Road likes the taste of Akuma blood, which Jasdevi when tasted it he differs as he finds it disgusting.
- Noah's Ark Navigation: Road is the only Noah besides the Earl and the 14th (Nea) who can freely control the Noah's Ark. She is also the only Noah capable of programming the Ark in order to download it and make a new Ark. However due to Nea intervention who controlled Allen's body to reform the old Noah's Ark, Road had lost the power to awaken the Ark.
- Lero: Lero is a golem created by the Millennium Earl, Road often uses it as a weapon or to levitate on.
- Eternal Youth/Immortality: Road hasn't aged ever since awakening as a Noah in 35 years. She seems to be able to keep her preteen appearance forever.
- Noah form and Human form: Out of all the Noah, Road has shown almost complete mastery to freely switch between her Noah and Human form in an instant or even part of her body transform into Noah such as only her eyes and have stigmata appear on her human skin, she has shown an intermediate between her Noah and Human form having brown skin without the stigmata, similar to Tyki and Wisely. She can easily blend into society like this without anyone suspecting she is a Noah.
- Enhanced Balance: Road balance is extraordinary as she can ride on a very thin umbrella; Lero and even stand on it with little to no effort.
- Enhanced Agility: Road has displayed excellent acrobatic skills. She is able to easily stand on umbrella Lero while it is flying and not necessarily completely horizontal. She could also dodge Allen Walker's hand by casually performing a back flip and landing back on the flying umbrella.
- Enhanced Smell: Road was able to easily differentiate between Cross Marian cigarette left in the Ark and Tyki Mikk just by noticing the smell of Tyki's cigarette.
- Dreams: As the Noah of Dreams, Road can create a pocket dimension and suck everything around her into it. Inside this dimension Road has complete mastery over it, granting her numerous of abilities, it takes the form of a gift box. She has also demonstrated to influence the other dimensions including the real world among other things. According to her, by using this dream world, Road can basically create a form in the outside world to go anywhere without using her true form which she keeps hidden inside her dimension.
- Telepathy: Road has displayed some telepathic abilities to some extent as seen during the Rewinding City Arc when she communicated with Akuma to return to her. She can also telepathically speak to someone else
- Mind Reading: Road is capable of picking someone memories in her dimension and can create illusionary people made of the person memories, she mainly uses this ability to acknowledge someone's deep insecurities and fears and recreate them in her dimension to twist and break their minds.
- Item Materialization: Road has shown to be able to materialize several items either in her dimension or in the real world and can manipulate them as she wishes; such as her Door, this is Road most obvious power of dimensional warping, this Door allows Road to freely move between dimensions which only she can summon, although other people may also use it. As such, she is the only Noah to be able to move through dimensions without the Ark, something not even the Earl can do. Road can also summon Candles which is her trademark weapon making them either float or to stab someone with it. These candles are powerful enough to injure Allen's eye she can also sharpen them if she wishes to. She can also summon a Box in the real world which takes the shape of a dice-like cube which she can trap anyone inside it.
- Regeneration: Road's body in the real world has shown very high regeneration powers, able to heal from deep wounds and burns in mere seconds. Her body in the dream dimension seems to be able to heal too as she was seen in great shape shortly after being stabbed by Lavi. Although currently Road body is in a state of "resting" after being hit by the Apocryphos and it took her some time to reform, as she was telepathically communicating with Wisely.
- Nigh-Invulnerability: Road is actually has some form of intangibility in the real world as her body is somewhat inexistant. She says: I'm me, but I'm not me." Those who do not know her "true form" cannot kill her, this includes Innocence as even Allen Sword of Exorcism cannot hurt or even harm her or will it slow her down. It is shown she can make a "fake body" in the real world that acts as her proxy and can go anywhere she wishes to without using her "true body". This is shown and explained in the Noah Ark arc, when Road traps Lavi in her dream world. Lavi realized that her true form is the illusionary Allen Walker body inside her dream, when Lavi stabbed that Allen with a dagger, the dagger then forms into Road duplicated body in the real world, proving that Lavi was right to attack her in her dream world. The other thing that can harm Road in the real world is Apocryphos who's ability has been noted to be unique.
- Doll Form: Road can take the form of a doll, which makes it easier for her to be concealed and be carried by an ally, in this form Road appears as a plushie but she does retain all her Dream powers and abilities. She often uses this doll form to ride on the Earl shoulders or Wisely's. Though it is shown she can freely switch back to her Noah body form in an instant.
- Dimension Connecting: Road is able to connect her dream to other dimensions, including that of the real world wherever she wants. She then can uses her Door to freely transport herself and others to said location, making her dream literally the "road between dimensions". She seems to be able to connect her dream to other Noah dimensions like Nea's.
- Teleportation: Road can also teleport as seen when she vanished instantly after a brief talk with Cross Marian. It is unknown where she can teleport to but possibly to her pocket dimension.
Trivia[]
- Road uses the term "Boku" to refer to herself in the Japanese version, something only male characters use in a polite manner.
- She seems like a sweet girl around the Noah, who has a thing for lollipops and asks Tyki to help her with her homework.
- Due to her high affection for Allen this caused her ironically her own downfall in the Noah's Ark arc as her real body was within Allen. Also her villainous acts decreased, she started from stabbing Allen in the eye when they first met, during their second meeting she kissed him, and during their third meeting she comforted Allen, lastly she saved Allen from Apocryphos taking the hit instead. Her high affection for Allen possibly because Road knows that he is the host of Nea, who can be considered a family.
- Road is not a fighter like Tyki, instead she prefers to fight mentally by breaking her opponent mind.
- Her adoptive mother, Tricia Kamelot is completely oblivious to Road darker side, but Sheril is aware.
- The Noah name Road comes from the fact that she is the "road" between dimensions.
- Among the Noah, she seems to be the one closest to the Earl and the only one who knows his true goal, while the other members just go along with whatever the Earl tells them to do.
- For some reason Road keeps many secrets even to her family and even to the Earl.
