Biography[]
Karen McCann’s daughter Julie is putting a birthday party together while talking to her mother over the phone. Robert Doob rings the doorbell and Julie answers. Doob breaks in and proceeds to brutally rape and murder Julie while Karen is forced to listen to it happen. Karen who is stuck in traffic at the time frantically goes to the other cars calling for someone to dial 911 for her. After killing Julie, Doob picks up the phone and listens to Karen asking who’s in her house before hanging up.
Doob is later arrested at Jon’s Market after the police test his blood and provides a positive DNA match. Detective Denillo reveals Doob’s occupation and criminal record to Karen. The McCanns see his arrest on the news much to their joy.
At his pre-trial hearing, Doob drums his fingers as the defense attorney presents her case to the judge, asserting that the prosecution never provided the defense with any evidence for counter-examination. The district attorney argues that the prosecution never gave their word to hand over the evidence. A written order is presented to the judge by the defense attorney, promising to be given at least 25% of the evidence. The defense is asking for the evidence to be rejected because the prosecution failed to keep their promise, despite it being written. The prosecution argues that that evidence points to Doob as the killer. The judge decides to permit the defense to present arguments against the evidence that was presented in court. Doob looks over at the McCanns and shoots them a nasty smirk. The judge agrees to dismiss the case and Doob is now liberated. Before being removed from the courtroom, Doob stutters "sorry" at Karen McCann. Karen’s husband Mack tackles Doob to the floor and is pulled off of him. Doob chuckles as he is escorted out.
Karen McCann begins stalking Robert Doob after discovering his residence. While observing him from a restaurant window, Karen swiftly runs after Doob. She ends up hiding in a store selling lights and sees Doob pour coffee onto a dog.
Karen next sees Doob loading a jeep with groceries from the liquor store he works at. She then sees him drop a box off to a customer at the front step. Next, Doob goes to another home and drop groceries to a female customer. Her neighbor’s dog barks at Doob who responds by mocking the dog. A Hispanic woman answers the door. She declines his offer to help her with the groceries. Upon her disappearance into the kitchen, he glances around the foyer. She comes back to pay him and he promptly departs. He looks back at the woman through her window as soon as he exits the gate of her home. Doob begins to urinate in the front yard of the woman’s next door neighbor, but soon he notices Karen McCann in her car watching him. He smirks but Karen drives away after seeing him look at her.
Detective Denillo comes to the liquor store that employs Robert Doob to confront him with information about Doob’s recent activies. Doob asks Denillo if he has a warrant. Denillo inquires about Doob's actions. Doob replies by affirming that he never does things that are detrimental to him. Doob then suggests that Denillo’s come there to collect a sperm sample from him. Denillo responds by holding Doob up by the throat and pushing his head to the shelf. Denillo threatens to make Doob clean his toilet seat by licking it. Denillo swiftly pulls out his gun and aims it at his head. Doob dares him to blow his head off. Denillo decides to put away the gun, but then hits Doob in the stomach and threatens to castrate him if he repeats his public urination. Denillo holds the threat of killing Doob if he finds out more about him peering into windows. Denillo punches Doob once more and instructs him to depart the city before leaving the backroom.
At Megan McCann's school playground, Doob makes his next appearance by removing a little boy who was arguing with Megan from a playhouse. Doob tells Megan he finds her attractive and asks to come in. Megan questions him about his knowledge of her name. He recollects seeing it on the back of her shirt. He is given a mud pie by her. He holds the clay cookie called mud pie, and Megan expresses her need to leave as she hears the teacher blowing the whistle. Doob desires her to remain and plays the part of eating the cookie with the imaginary syrup she just added to it. A blue clay cookie catches Doob's eye and he asks if he can have it too. Megan says it’s for her mommy. He persists in wanting it, but she refuses. Before letting Megan go, Doob says a little rhyme and she repeats it.
After school, Megan is picked up by Karen. Megan introduces her mother to her 'friend' from the playhouse as they approach his Jeep. It’s none other than Doob himself. Karen's smile fades quickly. Doob orders Karen to steer clear of his neighborhood and he will steer clear of Karen's. He also tells Karen that harming children isn’t exactly his cup of tea, but Megan can become the exception.
Doob brings more groceries to the Hispanic woman who has been warned by Karen about him. Inside the woman’s home, Doob soon takes a seat and puts gloves on behind his back. She gives him five dollars and then he begins to choke her. He throws her against the shelves and then onto the glass table. He then carries on with raping her before killing her. Doob is soon caught but is released two days later because Denillo can’t prove Doob raped and murdered the Hispanic woman.
Karen McCann soon pays a visit to Doob’s apartment under a false occupation. She soon sees a pair of keys to the apartment and proceeds to enter it. She finds the place empty upon entering and then proceeds to trash it. Meanwhile, Doob is on his way back to his apartment. Karen soon finds the other cookie from Doob’s confrontation with Megan and examines it briefly. She deliberately leaves her cap behind on top of Doob’s Television.
Doob soon returns to find his door open, but Karen is already gone. Doob enters and furiously kicks the pillow on the floor. He catches sight of Karen's cap and recognizes who has just left.
Later that evening, Doob takes a bus to the McCann’s house wearing Karen’s cap. He breaks in the back door and leaves the cap on the banister. Doob hears the shower running, so he walks upstairs to inspect. In the bathroom, he pulls back the shower curtain only to find a towel hanging. He catches sight of Karen aiming a gun at him, realizing that she has set him up so she can legally shoot him. He inquires if she is seeking an apology for causing Julie's death. He says it didn’t have to be Julie and he no longer remembers her. Karen provides him with Julie’s description. The gun fires and falls down to the foyer when Doob tackles Karen to the stairs. Karen is soon able to strike Doob in the nose which gives him a nosebleed. Karen slides down the stairs and regains possession of the gun. He repeats that it’s not personal, but she begs to differ. Karen then shoots Doob in the left arm before proceeding to fire three bullets into his chest. Doob then falls down the stairs and onto Karen’s chest, dead.
Afterwards, Karen is questioned by the police about what has transpired there. Detective Denillo informs Karen that he knows she set up Doob to get him into a position to kill him legally. Denillo is challenged by her to prove it.
