Biography[]
Early Life[]
Robert Laybourne was the head of Greendale's Air Conditioning Repair annex. The school was also a religious cult, and he was the cult leader. He thought he was the messiah known as the "Truest Repairman", but realized he was not. Instead, he dedicated himself to finding the Truest Repairman. He managed to make the Air Conditioning school extremely successful by getting all of the alumni jobs and receiving alumni donations in return.
Season Three[]
Laybourne bought an espresso machine for the school. Dean Pelton found out about this and criticized Laybourne for spending unnecessary money. Laybourne brought the Dean to the Air Conditioning Repair School and informed him about how all Greendale's money comes from there. He then told the Dean how he would control him from now on, and forcibly shaved off the Dean's Goatee.
When Murray saw Troy was skilled at AC repair, he told Laybourne, who had Troy and other students kidnapped. They made the students show their abilities of AC repair, and Tory was the best. Laybourne asked Troy to join the AC repair school but Troy refused. However, Murray informed Laybourne that Troy fixed an extremely difficult AC problem, making Laybourne even more determined to recruit him. When Troy and Abed disagreed about whether to construct a pillow fort or a blanket fort, Laybourne manipulated them into starting a war with each other, hoping to drive them apart. When that didn't work, Laybourne tried to blackmail the Dean into convincing Troy to join the AC repair school, but the Dean only gave a half-hearted attempt.
After Ben Chang took over the school, Troy went to Murray for help. Troy promised to join the AC repair school in return for Murray's help. Troy was forced to leave his friends and move into the AC repair school. Vice Dean Laybourne tried to convince Troy that he was the Truest Repair Man, although Troy found the concept ridiculous. Shortly afterwards, Murray killed Laybourne by tricking him into repairing a unit with a leaky Freon tube.
