The Robot Masters are the secondary antagonists of the classic Mega Man series. Their actual alignments vary; the ones here are those who were are either created or reprogramed by Dr. Wily, who uses them to defeat Mega Man and conquer the world.

Biography[]

Mega Man[]

Dr. Light made a series of humanoid robots, titled "Robot Masters", for industrial purposes and in order to help man kind. However six of his Robot Masters start to attack humans out of nowhere. Dr. Light realizes that the person responsible for this was his old assistant Dr. Wily, who aims to use the Robot Masters for world domination. Dr. Light turns his helper robot, Rock, into a fighting robot known as Mega Man to combat the now evil Robot Masters and defeat Dr. Wily

The Robot Masters can be fought in any order and after being defeated, give Mega Man the weapon that he can use to deal more damage to one of the Robot Masters if they are weak to it (e.g. Rock, Paper, Scissors). After all Robot Masters are defeated The final stage will be unlocked where Mega Man goes through Wily castle. Along the way though, Mega Man has to refight the now revived Robot Masters, first Cut Man and Elec Man in Wily stage 2 and later Bomb Man, Fire Man, Ice Man and Guts Man in Wily stage 4, before finally reaching the mad doctor.

Mega Man 2[]

After his previas defeat, Dr. Wily creates eight of his own Robot Masters and created a new fortress to defeat Mega Man and take over the world. Mega Man is sent by Dr. Light to destroy the new Robot Masters and defeat Wily once more.

The Robot Masters function similar as in the first game, after all eight are defeated Mega Man can go into Dr. Wily fortress and have to refight the Robot Masters in a boss rush. However, unlike in Mega Man where you fight the Robot Masters in a set order in separate levels, they are located in Wily stage 5, which is a single room with eight teleporters, each leading to one of the eight Robot Masters. The Robot Masters give you health after being defeated and after all eight are defeated, Mega Man can go and fight Dr. Wily.

The Robot Masters are:

  • DWN-009 Metal Man, wielder of the Metal Blades, was built using Cut Man's design. Metal Man makes his lair in the depths of a factory.
  • DWN-010 Air Man, a cephalothorax-type Robot Master who would start a trend of cephalothorax Robot Masters appearing in other games, wields the Air Shooter, fitting for his stage being in the sky.
  • DWN-011 Bubble Man, an aquatic Robot Master, wields the Bubble Lead. His lair is an underwater area.
  • DWN-012 QuickMan, a lightning-fast Robot Master, takes his design from Elec Man. He is encountered in an area with powerful electrical beams that must be bypassed.
  • DWN-013 Crash Man, an explosive Robot Master, takes his schematics from Bomb Man. His arms can turn into Crash Bombers, which launch exploding drills called Crash Bombs which stick to targets and burst to deal damage.
  • DWN-014 Flash Man was based on Time Man with his time-stopping powers, hence his weapon being the Time Stopper. His lair is an icy area with flashy blocks for terrain.
  • DWN-015 Heat Man comes from Fire Man. His weapon is the powerful Atomic Fire; these fireballs can be charged up, dealing massive damage to anyone in their way at full charge. He is found in a lava-filled lair.
  • DWN-016 Wood Man is a roboticised tree that was given arms and legs to move around. His lair is in a forest.

Mega Man 3[]

After his two world domination plans were foiled by Mega Man, Dr. Wily claims he changed his ways and starts working with Dr. Light on a peace-keeping robot known as "Gamma". However, eight Robot Masters built for mining go out of control and steal power crystals needed to power Gamma. Mega Man ones again goes to save the day, this time with his new robot companion, Rush, to take back the stolen crystals from the Robot Masters. After the eight Robot Masters are defeated, Mega Man has to return to four of the mining areas and face The Doc Robot eight time in order to take back the crystals. After Mega Man defeated the Doc Robot and retrieved the crystals, Wily reveals that he reprogramed The Robot Masters into working for him and steals the crystals and Gamma and heads back into his new fortress. Mega Man goes after Wily to stop his plans ones more.

The Robot Master act similar to how they do in the last two games, but after being defeated, Mega Man has to go back into harder versions the four stages he just went through and fight Doc Robot twice in each of them. After defeating them Mega Man can go into Wily fortress where on Wily stage 5, Mega Man has to fight the Robot Masters again in a boss rush in the same was as the last game before the final battle with Dr. Wily.

The eight Robot Masters are:

  • DRWN-017 Needle Man can shoot spikes from his Needle Cannons, which can be taken by Rock when he is defeated. Needle Man is found in a ship.
  • DRWN-018 Magnet Man infests a magnetic dynamo, fitting for his magnetism powers. He wields the Magnet Missiles, which can lock onto enemies.
  • DRWN-019 Gemini Man makes his lair within the depths of a cave with Pole robots. He wields the Gemini Laser, which can bounce off walls.
  • DRWN-020 Hard Man, originally called Press Man, makes his lair within the depths of a cave system.
  • DRWN-021 Top Man can throw tops that can lock onto his foes. He is also capable of using the Top Spin attack.
  • DRWN-022 Snake Man makes his lair within the depths of a snake-infested building. His Search Snakes can travel on walls.
  • DRWN-023 Spark Man takes his design from spark plugs. His arms end in electrodes that channel electricity for his Spark Shock weapon.
  • DRWN-024 Shadow Man takes his design from ninjas. He is unique in that he does not seem to come from Earth (or whatever planet Rock lives on). Shadow Man wields the Shadow Blades, large shurikens that can devastate enemies.

Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge[]

Dr. Wily would plot his domination plot again, rewiring the Robot Masters from Mega Man 1 and bringing back his own creations from Mega Man 2 to take down Mega Man. However, Dr. Wily would also introduce an ace up his sleeve, with the first of the Mega Man Killers, Enker.

The Robot Masters for this game are:

  • DLN-003 Cut Man
  • DLN-005 Ice Man
  • DLN-007 Fire Man
  • DLN-008 Elec Man
  • DWN-011 Bubble Man
  • DWN-012 Quick Man
  • DWN-014 Flash Man
  • DWN-015 Heat Man
  • MKN-001 Enker who has the ability to rebound the damage he takes and shoot them back at Mega Man.

Mega Man 4[]

One year after the events of Mega Man 3, a Russian scientist named Dr. Cossack has created eight Robot Masters to take over the world. Mega Man travels to Russia to destroy The Robot Masters, free the cities the took over and stop Dr. Cossacks evil plots. After the eight Robot Masters are destroyed Mega Man enters Cossack tower and at the final level fights Dr. Cossack. Just before Cossacks defeat, Proto Man shows up with Cossacks daughter, Kalinka and she explains that Dr. Wily kidnapped her and forced her father to use his Robot Masters for world domination, after which Wily reviles him self and escapes to his new fortress. Mega Man goes to fight Dr. Wily ones more.

The Robot Masters function similar as in the last three games. After all eight defeated, Mega Man can go to Cossack fortress. However, the Robot Masters aren't refought in a boss rush Cossack fortress and are instead fought in Wily stage 4 in the same way as the last two games.

The Robot Masters are:

  • DCN-025 Bright Man has a light bulb head, which can blind his enemies for his Flash Stopper technique. He has a Buster cannon that can shoot weak shots for offense.
  • DCN-026 Toad Man is another cephalothorax robot who can summon rain for the Rain Flush technique. His mouth contains humanlike eyes.
  • DCN-027 Drill Man has Buster cannons that can launch drills called Drill Bombs that explode on enemies. His head also contains a drill.
  • DCN-028 Pharaoh Man takes his design from pharaohs, though the lower half of his face has bandages akin to a mummy. He wields the Pharaoh Shot, which takes the form of a fireball.
  • DCN-029 Ring Man is the first Robot Master who was given combat purposes by Doctor Cossack. Ring Man wields rings as per his name, and his weapon is the Ring Boomerang.
  • DCN-030 Dust Man has a vacuum cleaner surmounting his eyes; he can use this to suck trash up and can shoot scraps as part of his Dust Crusher attack.
  • DCN-031 Dive Man takes his design from submarines. His chest contains a hatch that shoots Dive Missiles, which are missiles that can lock onto enemies.
  • DCN-032 Skull Man is a skeleton-themed robot who can summon fiery skulls as part of the Skull Barrier technique. Unlike his brethren, he was not created voluntarily.

Mega Man II (Game Boy)[]

Dr. Wily came up with a different scheme where he would steal the Time Skimmer from the Chronos Institute in order to change the past. However, after realizing that plan wouldn't work, Dr. Wily changed course and decided to steal the Mega Man of the future and modify him to an enemy Robot Master named Quint. Robot Masters from Mega Man 2 and Mega Man 3 return in this game as well.

The Robot Masters of this game are:

  • DWN-009 Metal Man
  • DWN-010 Air Man
  • DWN-013 Clash Man (Crash Man)
  • DWN-016 Wood Man
  • DWN-017 Needle Man
  • DWN-018 Magnet Man
  • DWN-020 Hard Man
  • DWN-021 Top Man
  • ???-??? Quint, a modified version of Future Mega Man that wields a special jackhammer called the Sakugarne.

Mega Man 5[]

After the events of Mega Man 4, Mega Man's brother and ally. Proto Man, shows up, kidnaps his creator, Dr. Light, and unleashes eight Robot Masters to cause havoc and destruction on the world. Mega Man, confused about why Proto Man would do this, goes out to destroy the Robot Masters and stop him. After defeating the Robot Masters Mega Man goes into Proto Man's fortress where in Proto Man stage 4 he discovers that Proto Man who was causing destruction was actually a Dark Man robot built by Dr. Wily to frame Proto Man. Mega Man chases Wily who escapes into his new fortress.

The Robot Master function similar as in the last game and are refought on Wily stage 3. They are the following:

  • DWN-033 Gravity Man uses gravity powers with his main attack being a weak Buster shot. He is able to manipulate the gravity with Gravity Holds. These can be used by the Blue Bomber himself to clear out enemies, but their main weakness is that defeating foes in this manner will not yield any item drops.
  • DWN-034 Wave Man wields the Water Wave, with his right arm having a Buster cannon that has a harpoon launcher.
  • DWN-035 Stone Man wields the Power Stones, which spiral out. His main feature is his ability to reconstruct his body after he falls apart.
  • DWN-036 Gyro Man was going to be built with a jet pack, but budget cuts lead to that being replaced by his iconic propeller, something which he is proud of. He wields Gyro Attacks, which are propeller blades that can be fired and can be aimed up or down by users.
  • DWN-037 Star Man wields a Buster cannon that discharges stars that spiral around his body as a shield in a technique called Star Crash.
  • DWN-038 ChargeMan takes his design from trains. He is able to launch flames from his smokestacks and dash into his foes; the latter attack can be channeled for the "Charge Kick."
  • DWN-039 Napalm Man takes his designs from tank. He has a fetish for weapons. Napalm Man wields the Napalm Bombs, which manifest as ground-hugging bombs that roll into targets and then explode upon striking.
  • DWN-040 Crystal Man was built to make money for Doctor Wily. His special ability is launching a crystal ball called a Crystal Eye that breaks into three smaller eyes upon hitting a wall.
  • Dark Man is the game's apparent big bad. His most noticeable feature is his shapeshifting powers. As the game's Japanese title implies, he catfished as Blues to stain the latter's reputation.

Mega Man III (Game Boy)[]

Dr. Wily would go on to initiate a devastating attack on the city's infrastructure, causing chaos on convenient life and the weather of the city. Among the chaos are once again the hostile Robot Masters led by Dr. Wily to take over the world. Among the ranks is Dr. Wily's next Mega Man Killer who is named Punk. Robot Masters from Mega Man 3 and Mega Man 4 return in this game.

The Robot Masters for this game are:

  • DWN-019 Gemini Man
  • DWN-022 Snake Man
  • DWN-023 Spark Man
  • DWN-024 Shadow Man
  • DCN-027 Drill Man
  • DCN-030 Dust Man
  • DCN-031 Dive Man
  • DCN-032 Skull Man
  • MKN-002 Punk has the ability to turn himself into the ball and ram himself across the field and is also able to shoot spiked balls.

Mega Man IV (Game Boy)[]

TBA

Mega Man 6[]

In order to counter Dr. Wily's attacks, "The First Annual Robot Tournament" is held by a mysterious figure known simply as "Mr. X" to determine the worlds strongest peacekeeping robot. Dr. Light sends Mega Man to supervise the event where he finds out that Mr. X took control of eight of the strongest contestants and tells Mega Man that he was manipulating Dr. Wily and plans to use the Robots for world domination. Mega Man and Rush go out to destroy the eight Robot Masters and stop Mr. X's. After defeating the Robot Masters, Mega Man goes into Mr. X's castle where, after being defeated, Mr. X is reviled to be Dr. Wily who flees into his new fortress. Mega Man follows Dr. Wily and on Wily stage 3 he refights the previously destroyed Robot Masters in a boss rush before his duel with Dr. Wily, after which, Wily is arrested.

The Robot Masters function similar as in the last two games, with the only difference being that four of the boss stages have alternative paths where after the Robot Masters are defeated Mega Man acquires one of the four letters to spell out Beat and use Beat much like in Mega Man 5. The Robot Masters also slowly fall into the boss room with flashing lights, instead of just being in the Room when Mega Man comes in. They are:

  • MXN-041 Blizzard Man is a weather robot. He loves skiing and tends to be seen with ski poles in his hands and skis on his feet. His Blizzard Attacks are snowflakes that, when used by the Blue Bomber after the latter defeats him, fly forwards in a slight spread. Blizzard Man's Blizzard Attacks lock onto their foes.
  • MXN-042 Centaur Man, originally called Kentauros Man, takes his design from centaurs, hence his names. He wields time-distortion abilities and his Buster cannon's shots break into smaller bullets upon striking a wall.
  • MXN-043 Flame Man has a Buster on his left arm which he can use to launch flames. His other main features are his moustache and turban, and he has black Arabian trousers to fit his origin. His lair is an oil plant.
  • MXN-044 Knight Man makes his lair within the depths of a British castle. He has a Buster cannon on his left arm that can launch a mace, and his right arm is fitted with a shield. He likes fighting, but never cheats, making things fair for his opponent.
  • MXN-045 Plant Man is a plant-themed robot. His head is shaped like a flower, and his right arm has a Buster cannon that can discharge petals that surround his body to form his Plant Barriers. He was given the serial number DAN-001, being made by Doctor Pedro Astil, in the Archie Comics adaptation.
  • MXN-046 Tomahawk Man takes his design from your stereotypical tomahawk-wielding Native American. Like KnightMan, he is honorable, but he hates deception and falsehood. Tomahawk Man wields the Silver Tomahawk, which curves upward. Despite their name, these Tomahawks have golden coloration.
  • MXN-047 Wind Man wields the Wind Storm for his weapon. He is encountered in a sky fortress and his left arm has a Buster cannon.
  • MXN-048 Yamato Man is from Japan. Hence his name, Yamato Man tends to speak Japanese, being somewhat bigoted towards other languages. His weapon is the Yamato Spear, which can bypass shields. Yamato Man can fire purple spear projectiles from his spear.

Mega Man 7[]

The Robot Masters here are:

  • DWN-049 Freeze Man was built to separate the cold from the heat, leading to his weapon, the Freeze Crackers, which are snowflake bombs that explode into smaller snowflake shrapnel in six directions.
  • DWN-050 Junk Man is held together with powerful magnets. His weapon, the Junk Shield, surrounds wielders with metal scraps that can be used to attack foes.
  • DWN-051 Burst Man launches bubbles from his Buster cannon, which sits on his left arm. These bubbles, called Danger Wraps, can contain bombs which blow up on their victims.
  • DWN-052 Cloud Man rides a cloud-shaped vehicle that rides his lower body, akin to Bowser Jr.'s Koopa Clown Car. Cloud Man's main weapon is the Thunder Strike, which launches electrical plasma spheres forwards.
  • DWN-053 Spring Man has springs within his body, giving his torso and limbs stretchy properties. His right arm has a Buster cannon that he can use to launch his Wild Coils, which are small springy bombs that bounce around to hit foes.
  • DWN-054 Slash Man takes his design from the Stardroid Pluto. He moves quickly, and his main weapon is his Slash Claw, trails of fire that are made by swiping the Buster, (though Slash Man slashes with his claws). One of his strongest attacks is to cover his body in flames and dash at the foe.
  • DWN-055 Shade Man takes his design from devils, with his main weapon being the Noise Crush, fired from the Buster cannon on his left arm. Noise Crushes can rebound off walls, giving their user the opportunity to absorb the energy to amplify the next shot.
  • DWN-056 Turbo Man was a car that was given sapience. His signature weapon is the Scorch Wheel, which consists of four fireballs that rotate. Scorch Wheels break upon hitting a wall, scattering their component fireballs on the floor, in TurboMan's version of the attack.

Mega Man 8[]

The Robot Masters in this game have been infected by Evil Energy. They are:

  • DWN-057 Tengu Man is encountered in the first set. His design comes from a tengu, hence his name, and he has a samurai attitude, but can be snobby. Tengu Man wields the Tornado Holds. These fan blades generate winds and can be used to gain height, but their winds need solid ground for the Tornado Hold to take root upon. TenguMan makes his lair in the sky.
  • DWN-058 Astro Man rides a ball-shaped ship that hides his legs, akin to Bowser's Koopa Clown Car, and he can also hide in it himself. He wields the devastating Astro Crush. This has fireballs rain down from the sky, killing all enemies on the screen. AstroMan is encountered in the second set, making his lair in a planetarium.
  • DWN-059 Sword Man has a massive sword fixed to his right arm and is able to split his body in two and pull his body back together. He is able to engulf his sword in flames, allowing him to launch a fire wave by swinging his sword. He is encountered in the second set, being found in a lava-filled temple.
  • DWN-060 Clown Man is a clown-based robot who has stretchy arms. His main attack is an electrical grab attack called "Thunder Claw," but upon being copied by the Blue Bomber himself, the Thunder Claws have their properties changed, being more of a long-ranged electrical punch as well as a grappling hook akin to the Grapple Fist power form Rayman. ClownMan is in the first set, being found in an amusement park.
  • DWN-061 Search Man was conceived with two heads to better his searching capabilities; as a result, he is actually two robots that share a body. He is able to use heavy weaponry, especially with the twin Buster cannons on his right arm, which splits at the elbow in two opposite directions. This heavy weaponry can be copied for the Homing Sniper. The missiles that are fired via this weapon target enemies. As part of the second set, Search Man makes his lair in the depths of a jungle.
  • DWN-062 Frost Man has a hulking body. His most devastating weapon is a cold wave called "Ice Wave," which can freeze enemies. He is not very bright, but boasts brutish strength, being the stereotypical "dumb muscle." Frost Man is part of the first set.
  • DWN-063 Grenade Man is a first-set Robot Master who lurks within a factory in South America. His right arm has a Buster cannon that can launch Flash Bombs, which are bombs that deal devastating damage.
  • DWN-064 Aqua Man is a second-set Robot Master who lurks in the depths of a waterworks bureau. His right arm has a Buster cannon that can launch water, and he can also control water.

Mega Man and Bass[]

TBA

Mega Man 9[]

These Robot Masters were scrapped due to the stupidly-implemented "Expiration Date Law" that said that Robot Masters have expiration dates and when their clock runs down, they are doomed, akin to SCP-4975's victims. This caused them to revolt. The Robot Masters are:

  • DRN-065 Concrete Man manages a construction project that would result in a dam being built. His right arm carries a Buster cannon that launches blobs of Cement called Concrete Shots, which can turn enemies into stepping stones. The Concrete Shots will turn into stepping stones to create a higher platform without hitting their mark.
    • Concept art reveals that Concrete Man was not going to be in the game. Instead, Cement Man would have filled that roll, with his weapon being called "Cement Shot."
  • DRN-066 Tornado Man has fan blades within his wrists that can be used to ward off storms. He wields Tornado Blows, which are strong winds that blow enemies away but consume a lot of energy.
    • According to concept art, Weather Man would have been featured, taking his design from a Cement Shot, and his Hurricane Blows would have the same effect as Tornado Man's Tornado Blows do.
  • DRN-067 Splash Woman is the first feminine-programmed Robot Master. Her design comes from a mermaid. She wields a trident that can be used as a sniper rifle, allowing her to attack foes from a distance; the Blue Bomber can fire these bolts from his own Buster cannon by copying it in a technique called Laser Trident. She makes her lair in a fortress under the water, where sea mines called Okosutobons lie dormant until someone disturbs their rest.
    • Concept art reveals that Ocean Man would have been put in the game hadn't he been booted by Keiji Inafune who decided that a mermaid would make a good Robot Master. Ocean Man looks like the Stardroid Neptune, and his weapon would've been the Laser Trident as well, albeit fired from a Buster cannon in his right arm rather than a handheld trident.
  • DRN-068 Plug Man is the Robot Master who displays the stereotypical nerdy technology-crazed persona. His right arm ends in a plug that can be used to launch plasma balls that crawl around the screen. (These balls of plasma are called Plug Balls in-game.) His stage contains Yoku Blocks which can pop up anywhere in a pattern.
    • Concept art reveals that Plasma Man would have been put into the game if Plug Man hadn't. Plasma Man takes his design from plasma globes, and would've been a cephalothorax-type Robot Master akin to Air Man himself. His Buster cannon is also on his left arm.
  • DRN-069 Jewel Man was meant to cut jewels to make jewelry. His main weapon is the Jewel Satellite, which summons gemstone orbitars that protect the wielder's body. His head is a pink gemstone that has a humanlike face on the front. He is encountered in a mine.
    • Concept art reveals that Diamond Man was going to be fought rather than Jewel Man. He looks like Jewel Man with with blue instead of pink, and his weapon may have been called Diamond Satellite, serving the same function.
  • DRN-070 Hornet Man takes his design from honeybees. He has honeycombs that lets him shoot up to three bees to chase down any target. His lair is a garden with plant-themed foes.
    • Concept art shows that Honey Woman takes her design from honeybees, having a humanoid face where the bottom 3/4 of a bee's face should be and wearing a bell-skirted dress. She has a Buster cannon that lets her shoot globs of honey to slow down anyone who gets hit by them, presumably due to the globs being sticky, and bee wings that allow her to fly, and she has a flight of bee drones called Honey Chasers that chase down her enemies and serve as her helpers.
  • DRN-071 Magma Man has dual Buster cannons that he can shoot fire and compressed lava from. Magma Man hands over the Magma Bazookas when he is defeated. These cannons are able to fire three blobs of fiery magma that spread out farther from their barrel. Magma Man makes his lair in the depths of a geothermal plant, where beams of lava that can be frozen by Concrete Shots appear. Concept art portrayed him as being more humanoid, but Keiji Inafune decided to give him the present-day cephalothorax design.
  • DRN-072 Galaxy Man is a Robot Master who was tasked with cataloguing stars and can fly. His design comes from stereotypical flying saucers, and his limbs can retract into his body. He wields Black Hole Bombs which can destroy foes close to them during detonation, although during his battle, the Black Hole Bombs that Galaxy Man fires only draw his opponent closer to him, allowing him to attack his opponent with a contact strike.
    • According to concept art, Space Man was going to be the space-themed robot. His appearance is similar to Galaxy Man's, but gold-colored. He would've wielded the same weapon.

Mega Man 10[]

The Robot Masters here were plagued by the Roboenza virus, which disrupts programming and increases feral traits.

Mega Man 11[]

The Robot Masters in this game were originally created by Dr. Light to help civilization in various day-to-day tasks. However, they were abducted by Dr. Wily during their daily maintenance and reprogrammed to aid the mad scientist in world conquest while upgrading them with the Double Gear System. Luckily, Dr. Wily was able to restore the Robot Masters back to their original selves after Mega Man defeated them in battle.

Appearance[]

Most Robot Masters are built to look like humans (hence them being Humanoids) with them having a visible human face (Although not all of them have this feature). Some Robot Masters are even built to resemble animals or mythical beings, examples being: Snake Man (snakes), Toad Man (amphibians), Centaur Man (centaurs), Slash Man (dinosaur/leopard hybrid), and Sheep Man (sheeps).

Trivia[]

  • So far, Splash Woman is the only Robot Master to possess a feminine appearance and name.
  • Not including the Mega Man Game Boy series, Guts Man, Cut Man, Wood Man, Tengu Man and Astro Man are the only Robot Masters to appear as bosses in more than one Mega Man game (Guts Man appeared as a castle boss in Mega Man 7, Cut Man and Wood Man are secret bosses in the Sega Saturn version of Mega Man 8, and Tengu Man and Astro Man appeared as two of the eight Robot Masters in Mega Man and Bass).
  • As of current writing, Knight Man and Wind Man are the only two Robot Masters to be designed by a non-Japanese designer.
