Rocks D. Xebec, commonly known as Rocks, is a major antagonist in the One Piece franchise. He was the captain of the legendary and notorious pirate crew called Rocks Pirates and was considered the most powerful and dangerous pirate of his age.
He was also the arch-nemesis of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. His death was the main reason that Monkey D. Garp became famously known as the hero of the Marines.
Personality[]
According to Sengoku, Rocks was a violent and sadistic pirate who loved killing people (even towards his own crew mates) and creating massacre. He was highly ambitious, as his dream was to become the King of the World. He also seemed to be more intrigued by forbidden topics of the world, being compared to a terrorist in such regard.
He shares his fellow “D carrier's” charisma, being able to rally several powerful individuals to come together, despite not having their full loyalty. He even has a tendency to behave recklessly by rushing into battle (something Garp and Roger did in their arrival on the God Valley). He also shares their hatred of Celestial Dragons and the World Government but to a greater extent, as he was not terrified to kill Celestial Dragons some of them. However, his bloodlust extended to killing their slaves, to satisfy his bloodlust.

As a pirate captain of the ancient Rocks Pirates, Rocks had command over his crew. Among his crew, Rocks has Whitebeard, Kaido, Big Mom, Shiki and John as his subordinates.
As one of the first rivals of the Pirate King Roger (stated by Sengoku). His former subordinate Kaido, who earned the title The Strongest Creature in the World even respects his abilities. Kaido describes him as one of the legendary pirates in the world along with Roger, Whitebeard, Oden, Shanks, and Luffy who were capable of challenging him in a battle.

Past[]
In the past, Rocks was a violent pirate who became the captain of the Rocks Pirates by rallying the group at Hachinosu Island, promising them great fortune and infamy. His crew consisted of Whitebeard, Big Mom, Kaido, Shiki the Golden Lion, John, Buckingham Stussy, Gloriosa, Streusen, Ochoku, and Silver Axe. Rocks was feared for his violence and for the power of his crew. He was very interested in studying history, especially subject matters that were taboo to the World Government. Rocks desired to be King of the World and was indiscriminate of who he attacked whether they be Marines, fellow Pirates, and Celestial Dragons.
After receiving word of a treasure stolen by Celestial Dragons, he gathered his crew and invaded an island in the West Blue called God Valley. Rocks went ahead of his crew by going off to attack and kill many Celestial Dragons and their slaves. His crew were annoyed by his reckless nature, since they had an agenda. The Rocks Pirates soon got into a major battle against Gol D. Roger and Monkey D. Garp. The result of the battle left God Valley sinking into the ocean and Rocks' defeat. According to Sengoku and others, Rocks died from the incident and God Valley disappeared without a trace.
Legacy[]
With Rocks' death, it ended his age of piracy until Gol D. Roger found the One Piece and became the Pirate King. Because of the battle Garp participated in, he earned the title, "Hero of the Marines". With the death of their captain, the Rocks Pirates dissolved. Because the crew was a rowdy bunch and lack true comradery, many of them choose not to make of their time in his crew.
Rocks did not have good standing with his crew, as Big Mom later called him a no-good scoundrel while Kaido has horrible visions of Rocks. Whitebeard previously called him a fool and years later told Oden that he wanted no rowdy individuals like him in his crew after his previous experience with the Rocks Pirates.
Despite his death and his crew dissolution, Rock's former crew members became very powerful captains of their own crews. His former subordinates Whitebeard, Kaido, and Big Mom became part of the Four Emperors.
Kaido and Big Mom formed an alliance to take over the world as Rocks once attempted by seeking out the Ancient Weapons and the One Piece to wage war against the World Government until their attempts was foiled as well as both Kaido and Big Mom were defeated by Luffy, Kid and Law.
Trivia[]
- He is the second D-bearer to be a villain, the first being Marshall D. Teach.
- Coincidentally, Blackbeard has a ship named after Xebec.
- Rocks is the second person who ever assaulted the Celestial Dragons (after the Iron Giant and before Fisher Tiger, Monkey D. Luffy, and the Revolutionary Army).
- Three of the original Emperors were part of his crew while Shanks was a member of the Roger Pirates, the crew of his nemesis.
- Rocks ambition was to become "King of the World" a title only possessed by Imu. Coincidentally the existence of God Valley, the island where he met his end was erased off the map, Similarly to Imu's destruction of Lulusia.
- It is heavily implied that Rocks was Gloriosa's lover which would probably explained how she survived from "Love Sickness" as well left Amazon Lily to join the Rocks Pirates and the reason why Hancock called Gloriosa as a "traitor to the Kuja".
- Rocks very likely didn't see Gloriosa as anymore than a way to satisfy himself; this guy is a confirmed nutcase, so love would be a foreign concept to him.
