Rofu

Rofu is the main antagonist of Bloody Wolf's Darkness Blue: Fist of the North Star Rei Side Story, a spin-off manga of the Fist Of The Nort Star franchise dedicated to the character of Rei.

He is the previous successor of the Nanto Suichō Ken school, as well as the teacher of Rei and Amiba. Married to Linrei, sensei of the same school as Nanto, unlike his wife and his pupil Rei, Rofu uses a violent style, very different from Rei's elegant technique.

History[]

Before the nuclear war, Rofu was the successor of Suicho Ken and trained Amiba and Rei, to whom he will then pass the title of successor. Rei believed that his master had died during the nuclear war, but the truth is that Rofu had survived and, after killing his wife, had started wandering all the way to the city of Asgarzul, starting to gather an army with which he will conquer the city after killing the queen. Taken hostage the sister of Eva, Yuu, with whom Rei had formed a friendship, he will force his pupil to fight him for the succession in the temple of Nanto, in front of the Rokusei and the Ken-Oh, who came to watch the clash. During the battle Rofu seems to be constantly in the lead, and provokes Rei (for example by lying by telling him that he had instigated Jagi against her family), who stops using his elegant style. But it is in this fight that the fate of his star awakens in Rei and, when they both use their final moves, Rei will be able to hit him dead with the Hisho Hakurei, Nanto's most powerful technique. In his last moments of life, Rofu will reveal to Rei that in reality Linrei's death had been accidental: after a fight she had tried to protect him from the falling rubble that would have buried him alive and he, still blinded by anger for having been defeated and disfigured in the fight they had had shortly before, he had inadvertently passed through her. He will die full of remorse for his cruel actions but at the same time satisfied, because his pupil Rei has managed to overcome both him and Linrei, thus reaching new and higher levels of technique and skill.

Combat Style[]

Rofuu perfects an extremely powerful and dangerous violent style, far removed from the elegance of Suicho Ken. According to Souther, Rofu is as strong as his master Ogai. Rofu feels his strength for the first time by facing and defeating the thousand men of Yuda's army alone in a few minutes without being hurt even by the volley of arrows that are thrown at him. A second test is when he confronts Rema and Frieda, the Berserker Brothers, managing to defeat them without suffering damage (Rei himself had not been able to defeat Rema alone). However, despite his strength, Rofu would not have become the successor if Linrei had not given up this position in order to marry him. Linrei's elegant technique is considered by Shu himself to be superior to that of Rofu. In fact, in the clash between husband and wife, Rofu will not be able to score a single blow and will kill Linrei only for an accident. At the end of their fight, Rei will admit that Rofu's strength and technique are superior to his, but that he won because he was fighting for those he loved instead of pure ambition.

Trivia[]

Rofu shares many similarities with Raoh: like him, he makes use of a fighting style based mainly on brute strength, the violence of the blows and the lack of elegance (in contrast to the elegant one of his wife, a difference that seems to recall that between the fighting style of Raoh and Toki), as well as some techniques based on Ki that are very reminiscent of those of Hokuto Ryuken, has ambitions to conquer the whole world (in fact, like Raoh, he calls himself "The conqueror of the sky", and uses a recurring phrase, that is "I will hold the sky in my fist"), he gave up love for his desires to conquer but unconsciously he never abandoned him, and also his clash with Linrei in which he attacks her and is wounded before killing her recalls the clash between Raoh and Ryuken). Like Raoh, he is also seen riding a huge horse, which in his case has white fur. He also has similarities to Souther and Kaioh (due to the death of a loved one - killed by him, as in Souther's case - he renounced love) and his deathbed redemption is reminiscent of Kaioh's, which includes his mistakes after being defeated by Kenshiro.
