~ Pearson excusing his crimes |
Roger Pearson is the primary antagonist of the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Wednesday's Child". He is a con artist who kidnaps and exploits children for child pornography.
He was portrayed by Mark Boone Junior, who also portrayed Arnold John Flass in Batman Begins.
Overview[]
Pearson is a con artist who collects fraudulent disability checks by pretending to be a paraplegic. He also tricks his wife, Alexa, into believing he is disabled so she will wait on him hand and foot.
He and Alexa also produced child pornography videos in the early 2000s, for which Pearson served eight years in prison and they were both put on the sex offender registry. Pearson nevertheless continued exploiting children, with Alexa's help, after being released from prison. Alexa would pose as an adoption broker online and trick overwhelmed people into giving them their unwanted children by promising to give them to loving families. Roger would then force the children to perform sex acts on camera and livestream it on the dark web.
On Christmas 2013, he bought a baby named Noah from a pimp and gave him to Alexa as a "replacement" for her son, Charlie, who died in infancy. Noah would later be adopted by Sergeant Olivia Benson of the NYPD's Special Victims Unit.
"Wednesday's Child"[]
Pearson and Alexa con Lisa Moore into giving them her adopted son, Nicky, who has diabetes and behavioral problems, to them to "rehome". When her husband Tom, who was unaware of her actions, returns home from a business trip to find Nicky gone, he calls SVU, who investigate Nicky's disappearance and quickly find out what Lisa did.
They question Children's Services about the couple who took Nicky with forged adoption papers and trace their contact information to Pearson and Alexa. They put out an Amber Alert, which scares Pearson and Alexa into fleeing with Nicky, leaving behind a video of the boy with two little girls "advertising" the webcam site.
SVU Detectives Fin Tutuola and Amanda Rollins arrest Alexa while she tries to fill Nicky's prescription for insulin. Benson and her partner, Detective Nick Amaro, persuade Alexa to tell them where Pearson is by appealing to her maternal instincts; she directs them to a cheap motel, where a teenage girl named Katlyn - one of Pearson and Alexa's older "performers" - is looking after the two little girls and Noah. The detectives track Pearson and Nicky to an airport, but they find that Pearson has abandoned his wheelchair. They show Alexa security footage of Pearson walking, which so angers her that she tells them where they can find him.
They find Pearson at a Chinese restaurant and arrest him. He at first claims not to know who Nicky is, but when Amaro and Tutuola show him pictures of him walking with the boy, he says that he left Nicky at a donut shop. When they tell him Alexa turned on him after finding out he was lying to her, he blames the kidnapping and child porn on her, and dismisses Nicky as a "pain in the ass". Fortunately, Benson and Rollins find Nicky alive and unharmed and return him to his adoptive parents, while Pearson and Alexa are imprisoned for life.
