NOTE: FOR THE SAKE OF THIS WIKI, THIS PAGE MAINLY ACCEPTED THE VILLAINOUS VERSION OF ROGUE IN THE LAST EPISODES OF THE TV SERIES.

Anna Marie, better known as Rogue, is one of the main protagonists of 1992-97 animated superhero series X-Men: The Animated Series and its 2024 sequel series, X-Men '97, as well as a guest character in Spider-Man: The Animated Series.

She is a southern belle and mutant and former member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and current member of the X-Men, who can possess the uncontrollable ability to absorb and take the memories, powers, and energy of those she touches.

She is voiced by Lenore Zann.

Personality[]

Rogue is a beautiful, attractive and smart woman with a great sense of humor, a heart of gold, an independent nature, and a lot of spirit. She is usually show to have an attitude of good-natured irreverence. Rogue sometimes referred to everyone including even her enemies as “hon” and “sugar” and spoke in a sassy Southern accent. She was also a bit of a flirt and flirted with any man she found to be her type such as Cyclops, Colossus, Archangel, and Spider-Man during her time as a hero.

She reciprocated love with Gambit, although she was frustrated that her powers made her incapable of being intimate, even though he assured her that it didn't bother him. Due to the (sudden) romantic history with Magneto, she was tempted to resume a relationship with him during his adoption of Xavier's peaceful ways, even if just for the sake that he could nullify her parasitic draining to give her the relief of sexual activities; despite seeming seduced into dancing with Magneto during a UN visit to Genosha, she remained torn between the two love interests.

When OZT unleashed a Sentinel attack on Genosha that slaughtered thousands of mutants, Gambit resorted to a suicide attack to destroy the primary Tri-Sentinel. Due to Gambit's death, Rogue finally understood how deeply she cared about him, thereby she would have never left him for Magneto; but now denied the choice, Rogue fell into a deep grief that quickly shifted into overwhelming violence. She began a destructive crusade that destroyed people and locations that she blamed for Gambit's death.

Her grief and rage was so deep that she allied with Magneto as he resumed his terrorist methodology to overthrow humanity for the sake of mutantkind. While fighting the X-Men for some time, upon the mutual danger of Bastion, she reverted to the X-Men, and seemed to set aside her wrathful despair for the time being, as she remained loyal to the X-Men when the threats seemed to be over.

Villainous Acts[]

Note: This only focuses on her actions in X-Men 97.

  1. She ruthlessly destroyed Thunderbolt Ross' military base and killed all his men.
  2. She threatened Trask's former associate Henry Gyrich in Mexico, and used her powers to absorb his memories, leaving him in a coma.
  3. She callously insulted the X-Men and joined Magneto along with Sunspot to wipe out humanity.
  4. She along with Sunspot were sneaking in one of the X-Jets to brutally kill the X-Men only to realize they're not in the jet.
  5. She tried to outright slaughter Wolverine.

Powers and Abilities[]

Rogue has the ability to absorb energy from other living beings by touching them as well as temporarily gain mutant powers and thoughts. However this makes it difficult for her to be in contact with anyone unless she has her gloves for protection.

After taking most of Ms. Marvel's powers permanently, it gave her the power of flight, superhuman strength and invulnerability.

Trivia[]

  • In her green and yellow costume that has a leather jacket, Rogue is virtually interchangeable with her early 1990s incarnation in the original comics.
  • It is shown that Rogue is in her mid twenties during the series.
  • While it was known that she had been a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants in the original show, in X-Men '97 added the arguably contentious retcon that she had a sexual relationship with Magneto, even though she would have been in her teens during it. Regardless, the physical intimacy was possible due to Magneto's power over magnetic fields that allowed him to nullify her involuntary absorption powers.
