Rokuro (轆轤, Rokuro) is a minor character in the manga/anime series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and a member of the Twelve Kizuki, holding the position of Lower Rank Two. His first and only appearance in the story was during the Lower Ranks Meeting that took place during the Rehabilitation Training Arc, where he was brutally killed by Muzan for his incompetence and lack of loyalty.
He was voiced by Taiten Kusunoki in Japanese and by Ray Chase in English.
Biography[]
Rokuro and the other Lower Ranks are summoned to Infinity Castle by Nakime, where they find Muzan Kibutsuji taking the form of a woman, who orders them all to bow down before him. Muzan tells them that Rui has been killed by one of the Demon Slayers, and asks them with much irritation why they are so weak. He demeans them by saying that the Upper Ranks have remained unchanged for over a century while they are continuously replaced. The moment one of them, Kamanue, begins to respond in their head, Muzan interrupts him for introducing his claim by mocking how easy Muzan makes it sound to compare to the Upper Ranks, unaware and unable to help that Muzan can read his thoughts, and asks him to repeat himself out loud. When the Lower Rank cannot continue due to realizing he had just made Muzan mad with his thought, he falters, and Muzan takes him in a monstrous arm that devours him mercilessly, raised above all the other Lower Moons to shower them all in blood.
Rokuro silently waits in fear for Muzan to address him as the others are killed off by Muzan for being insolent and incompetent in his eyes, afraid to speak, but when Muzan finally gets to him after killing everyone but him and Enmu, Rokuro fanatically claims that he can still be of use to him. Doubtful, Muzan asks how exactly he can be of use to him, having decided to disband the Lower Ranks, and Rokuro pleas for a portion of his blood, being careful to sound confident that it will allow him to rise to meet his expectations while at the same time not sounding too arrogant in front of Muzan. Muzan becomes angry at him for making a "demand" from him, and denounces Rokuro for being shameless. Rokuro begs for forgiveness, telling Muzan tearfully that he misunderstood his intentions, which only annoys him further. Muzan tells Rokuro that he is never wrong about anything, and tells him in a sinister speech that he deserves to die for being a defiant servant for telling a man who is never wrong what to do. He is then the second to last of the Lower Ranks to die, outlasting all but Enmu, who is spared and rewarded by Muzan with his blood for praising him, but also fails to meet his expectations, as he is later killed by Tanjiro and Inosuke. This meeting left Muzan without the loyal servants he once had to protect him, now weakened by his own arrogance.
Personality[]
Rokuro displayed cowardice to Muzan Kibutsuji, but was also earnestly loyal to him. He did not display the level of cowardice Mukago showed, who Muzan stated was afraid to fight Demon Slayers, as he showed an eagerness to fight Demon Slayers if it meant pleasing Muzan, and only asked Muzan for more blood due to being forced to appease him and out of confidence that he can devour more humans to become stronger and aid Muzan. However, he was not confident enough in his abilities to believe that Muzan had no chance of killing him, which led him to ask for more blood, which failed to prevent a seemingly inevitable death.
Abilities[]
Ranks of the Twelve Demon Moons are relative to how much blood they've consumed, and as Lower Rank Two, Rokuro was the presumably the second strongest demon among the Lower Ranks. Being second only to Enmu, Rokuro can be assumed to be a powerful demon, as Rui was powerful enough to nearly kill Tanjiro despite being Lower Rank Five, three ranks below Rokuro. However, it was stated by Muzan that Rui despite having consumed less blood, was skillful enough to rival Enmu and Rokuro. This only verifies that Rokuro must have been a formidable demon, but since Rui was still easily able to be beaten by Giyu, it is unlikely Rokuro was powerful enough to take on a Hashira.
