Corporal Roman Gray, also known by his call sign, Knight, is an antagonist in the 2020 first person shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, appearing as an operative in the above mentioned game and the online battle royale, Call of Duty: Warzone. He was released in the third season content of Black Ops Cold War and Warzone, and acts as a secondary antagonist for the 1984 storyline of season three.
A dishonorably discharged Irish Army officer turned MI6 agent, Gray was dismissed from the agency due to his conduct during the 1980s, leading him to join the Perseus Spy Network. In 1984, Gray worked with Vikhor "Stitch" Kuzmin to enact Perseus' plans to crush the United States.
Roman Gray was born on September 15th, 1937, in Ireland to unnamed parents, and later joined the Irish Army when he reached the age of eighteen. Gray was known for having a violent career in the army, and was deployed across the globe during the 1950s and the 1960s. He was part of the peacekeeping force during the United Nations operation in the Congo, and was later a prisoner of war after being captured during the siege of Jadotville. After being freed, Gray returned to the army, and was promoted to the rank of sergeant for his actions. In 1963, Gray was dishonorably discharged from the army after he attacked a superior officer, who was critiquing him after he was demoted for being violent with a subordinate the previous year.
Gray would then join MI6 in 1965, and there are numerous reports that noted that Roman was part of killings of foreign agents that were not authorized. He would train an MI6 operative in wet works, and that operative would be captured when he attempted to assassinate a Soviet official. Despite these concerns in higher ups, Gray continued serving in the field during the 1970s. In 1980, Gray was working in Afghanistan to support the Mujahideen against the Soviet Armed Forces, who wanted to take control over the region. Due to unlikeable conduct, Roman was dismissed from the agency, and was presumably greeted by the Soviet rogue spy, Perseus. Seeing that Perseus would allow him free rein to get revenge on NATO, and promised chaos with his plans, Gray joined his spy network.

When Vikhor "Stitch" Kuzmin wanted to enact his revenge on Russell Adler, a Central Intelligence Agency field agent who took his eye and caused his fall. Stitch managed to kidnap Adler in 1984, and had him be transferred to Verdansk after he was tortured by Kapono "Naga" Vang. Stitch tasked Knight and Freya "Wraith" Helvig to infiltrate a base in Mount Yamantau, where they eliminated the guards and stole tapes belonging to a brainwashing program. The two operatives left the base, and Wraith detonated a nuclear device related to Greenlight, which would cause the United States to be blamed for the destruction of the mountain.
Though Knight and Wraith succeeded in helping Stitch brainwash Adler and the Verdansk test subjects, the CIA team sent to find Adler rescued him faster than they predicted. Though Knight and Wraith wanted go through with the plan, Stitch reminded them that the enemy satellites were interfering with their broadcast, and they couldn't get to the Verdansk test subjects that were in place. However, Knight reminded Stitch that they had the advantage, and Wraith informed Kuzmin that their man in Africa was ready.
