~ A message from Slag the first time you see him in "Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction". |
Captain Romulus Slag is the secondary antagonist of Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction and one of the two main antagonists (alongside Angstrom Darkwater) of Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty.
He was portrayed by Robin Atkin Downes who also plays the Medic in Team Fortress 2, Travis Touchdown in the No More Heroes franchise and Doomsday in the DC Extended Universe.
Biography[]
He was created by Emperor Percival Tachyon alongside Rusty Pete and the other space pirates with the purpose of collecting lombax technology for the vengeful emperor. Slag became the new captain the robotic space pirates after betraying Captain Darkwater.
Tools of Destruction[]
Slag appears for the first time in Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction as the secondary antagonist. While the titular duo are travelling through the Voron Asteroid Belt en route from Planet Fastoon to Planet Murkow, Slag's fleet ambushes them and he demands they surrender their ship. A space battle ensues, but most of the fleet is forced to retreat to attend a team-building exercise in the Andromeda system, leaving behind Puffy-Pants Wallace to finish the duo off. After defeating Wallace, the duo encounter Slag again on briefly on Planet Ardolis, stealing back a Lombax artifact that the pirates had stolen years ago from the Apogee Space Station. The artifact turned out to be a map supposedly giving the location of the Lombax secret (the Dimensionator, a machine that allows the user to open rifts to parallel dimensions). The map displays the planet Rykan V as the location and on the way there, Slag and his fleet ambushes the duo again, this time having to retreat to attend yoga class, initiating the boss fight with Iron-Crotch Caruso. After not finding the Dimensionator, the pair decide to go to the Iris Supercomputer for answers, which happens to be in pirate territory. After fighting more pirates, the computer tells them that the device in on Planet Jasindu, where the pirates plan to invade to steal it from the Kerchu. After another space battle and a boss fight with Greasy-Palms McGee, Ratchet and Clank arrive on Jasindu where Slag ultimately takes the Dimensionator by force from Ratchet, threatening to kill Clank unless he hands it over. Ratchet and Clank then promptly board Slag's fleet to take it back. After making their way to the Flagship, the two fight Slag. Once defeated Slag was reduced to a head, before bidding farewell to the Galaxy.
Subsequent appearances[]
In Quest for Booty, which Slag is one of the main antagonists of, Rusty Pete revives Slag and put his disembodied head on a stick, and then placed his head into Angstrom Darkwater's body. After trying to share the body with Darkwater and attempting to destroy Ratchet, Slag was reduced to a head again and ordered Pete to get him a new body. In A Crack in Time, Slag and Pete appeared in Qwark's film "My Blaster Runs Hot" and ran their own radio station called Pirate Radio, which the player can listen to while flying around the Polaris galaxy.
