Ronald "Ron" Baker, is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Dr Nicky) of Season 1 in the Netflix series You.
He is the boyfriend of Claudia and stepdad of her son, Paco and lives with them, in Claudia's flat, which is in the same building as the protagonist, Joe Goldberg's, flat.
Ron is physically abusive to Claudia and has beaten her on multiple occasions. He likes to intimidate and bully Paco, and in the end, he even tries to beat him up. Because Joe befriends Paco and helps him through this horrible ordeal, Ron despises Joe and threatens him to stay away from the boy, though Joe does not do as told.
He was portrayed by Daniel Cosgrove.
Biography[]
At the start of the season, Ron lives with Claudia and her son, Paco, in her flat. He is verbally and physically abusive to her, and she is seen at one point with a black eye from him. He also likes to intimidate and bully Paco.
Later on, Claudia kicks Ron out of the flat, not liking the way he treats her son. Her drug usage goes too far when she is passed out on her sofa one day and found by Joe and Karen, who take her to the glass cage in the basement of Joe's book store, where she stays for a while with Karen to detox, with Joe watching over Paco. Claudia's detox ends up being successful, and she stops using drugs and moves back into her flat, resuming her life with her son.
Unfortunately, Claudia takes Ron back, and he moves back in.
In the season finale, Ron assaults Claudia, and she ends up falling down the stairs and getting a concussion. She is rushed to the hospital, where Joe visits and confronts her about taking Ron back, despite her having Paco to think about. Claudia explains that Ron is a probation officer and thus has connections, which he threatened to use to get Paco taken away from Claudia for her past drug usage, unless she took him back. In other words, she is only staying with him to keep custody of Paco.
When Joe returns home from the hospital, he sees that across the street, Ron is about to beat up Paco for whacking him on the back with a bat (in retaliation for the assault on his mother). Joe gets Ron's attention, which causes him to aggressively move toward Joe to attack him. Joe then stabs Ron's throat and kills him. He was declared missing since then.
Years later, when Joe's crimes and true nature were revealed to the internet in 2025, an older Paco is still loyal and grateful towards Joe for saving him and his mother from Ron, though he indirectly confirmed that Joe killed Ron during the #JoeGoldberg livestream, which angered Joe.

- Ron is an original character from the television series, as he does not appear in the books, like Paco and Claudia.
- It has been suggested that Ron is rather disliked by the police when he suspects something off about Joe while in the garden, as they don’t seem to be cooperative with his claims and they stop him from attempting to attack Joe.
