Consider yourself lucky. Not everyone is granted the gift of compleation.
~ Rona

Rona is a blue and black aligned human artificer from Magic: the Gathering and a major antagonist of the New Phyrexian story arc. A former member of the Tolarian Academies, she became a Phyrexian sympathizer and one their highest ranking members on Dominaria even though she herself is not initially a Phyrexian.

Biography[]

Dominaria United[]

A former member of the Tolarian Academies, Rona was unsatisfied with her studies and turned her attention to forbidden Phyrexian lore. This led her to become a devotee of Gix, a former Thran rebel who was transformed into a Phyrexian demon. This led her to mechanically alter herself, most notably by replacing her left eye and she has a device in her leg. She headed excavations into the Caves of Koilos to find buried Phyrexian technology, but ended up accidentally unearthing the charred, but still living, remains of the Phyrexian praetor Sheoldred. For months, Rona worked tirelessly as the Whispering One's servant, paving the way for New Phyrexia to invade Dominaria.

Rona led an operation to restore the praetor's flesh after it was incarnated while traveling through the Planar Bridge and she became her second in command in the New Phyrexian invasion of Dominaria. Her staging area was discovered by the artificial planeswalker Karn who wished to kill the praetor before the invasion began. Rona was injured by the golem with her mechanical eye being broken, but she was spared. Rona felt that was a mistake which allowed her to save Sheoldred and trapped him under a pile of rubble. Rona eventually piloted a dragon engine from the ruins of Kroog against the eternal archmage Jodah and the elves of Yavimaya led by Meria. This assault ended in failure, but Rona managed to escape.

The Brother's War[]

Ronas-Vortex

After the Battle of the Mana Rig, Rona became in charge of the remaining Phyrexian forces on Dominaria. The artificer planeswalker Tezzeret arrived on orders from Elesh Norn to take command from her. Rona informed him that she only took orders from Sheoldred, but after the Seeker easily overpowered her and explained what would happen if she entered the Blind Eternities, Rona backed down and gave him a status report. Their forces were limited and it would take a month at most to replenish them. Despite that, what they did have was still very useful. The two lead an attack on the ancient tower where Teferi and his allies were constructing the Temporal Anchor. Rona herself managed to severely injure Jodah with her glaive and held her own against Elspeth Tirel. This was until Tezzeret knocked Rona unconscious before she could finish her off. She planeswalked away with him.

Once the two arrived on New Phyrexia, only Rona's charred endoskeleton remained. They were taken to the blue aligned praetor Jin-Gitaxias for reconditioning.

March of the Machine[]

Rona -Herald-of-the-Invasion

Rona would return to Dominaria during New Phyrexia's invasion of the multiverse, resuming her role as a general for the Phyrexians. She would return to the Tolarian Academies where she would be compleated into a Phyrexian Obliterator. She was happy to finally become a Phyrexian.
