~ Graber during his arrest. |
Ronald Graber, a.k.a. The Brutal Man, is the main antagonist of the Criminal Minds: Evolution third season episode "The Brutal Man". Graber is a killer of families in direct league with incarcerated murderer Elias Voit, who he tries to reach by Graber giving his own murders the FBI's attention.
He was portrayed by Winter Andrews, who also portrayed Kyle Wilkie in Law & Order: Organized Crime.
Biography[]
Little is revealed about Graber. The BAU profiled him as having been abused at home, but Graber's own statements imply he's simply a sadist. Graber founded the locksmith company "KeyForge", which he used to target people. He fantasized about killing and terrorizing families, so when he got into contact with Voit through his criminal network's server, Voit taught him how to improve his skills, and Graber became one of the leading figures of the network and most dangerous, earning Voit's trust. Graber made copies of the keys of houses where he killed families. He knocked them out with batons, zip tied them around the dinner table, and dared them to choose who would live or die. He would slowly kill all but one of the family members, filming the entire massacre. He would then place the mask he was wearing on the survivor and leave through the garage, stealing a sticker decorating the cars as a trophy, usually of the family member he left alive. He posted videos onto Voit's forum to get the BAU's attention, as Voit was in prison and suffering amnesia from an attempt on his life. He made the daughter of the Langham family say to the camera to call Graber "The Brutal Man". He then made the mother of the D'Anna family send a message that she'd try to commit suicide by cop, but this was averted. When the BAU stops Graber from killing the Nicoletti family, J.J. tries to appeal to him by believing he was motivated by trauma. Graber took off his mask to look emotional, then laughed and said he just enjoyed murder, before he was arrested. He then said he wanted to send a message to Voit, and Voit agreed to speak with Graber to take down the network and get his memories back.
Trivia[]
- Graber is inspired by multiple real-life and fictional serial killers:
- Dennis Rader, a.k.a. "The BTK Killer", an American serial killer with victims including entire families, who were bound and separated from each other either to slowly kill them all or kill targeted people in the families with the survivors as witnesses.
- Nathaniel Code, a.k.a. "The Cedar Grove Killer", an America serial killer of two families profiled by the FBI as restraining them for control before slowly butchering them all.
- Bryan Kohberger, an American mass murderer guilty of stabbing several college students in Idaho, leaving two students surviving the attack.
- Hannibal Lecter franchise antagonist Francis Dolarhyde, a serial killer of families who specifically focused on sexually abusing the mothers once they were dead. He was caught when FBI Agent Will Graham coordinated with Lecter to profile Dolarhyde, but not without Lecter and Dolarhyde colluding so that Graham and his family were targeted as well. Coincidentally, Dolarhyde was inspired by Rader.
