Detective Chief Inspector Ronnie Box (formerly Detective Inspector) is a major antagonist in Endeavour.
Box was originally a DI before he was promoted into a DCI after the death of George Fancy, since former DCI Reginald Bright was moved into the traffic division. Box proved himself to be an even worse leader than Bright in the past, and had been associated with the powerful members from both the city council and Freemasons in order to gain wealth and power, eventually becoming their pawn.
He was originally being suspected to be the killer of George Fancy, but in the end, it was revealed to be someone else, who eventually outranked Box and revealed himself to be the real ringleader of Thames Valley's corruption.
He was portrayed by Simon Harrison.

In "Prelude", Box was revealed to be survived from Jago's gun shot and was now working as an honest private detective. It is unknown why he is not shown in imprisonment on-screen, but it can be assumed that he got released from a lighter sentence due to his acts of atonement.
Trivia[]
- Ronnie Box's final redemption in the Series 6 finale, through rescuing Morse from Jago, was a reminiscence to Reginald Bright, who went to rescue Morse in the Series 2 finale.
- Although Box's screentime could make him potentially the main antagonist of Series 6, he was acting too cowardly to cause greater damage and later was quickly sidelined by Jago, McGryffin and Burkitt, making him the season's secondary antagonist and a Freemason peon instead of a bigger threat to Morse.
- Box could be considered as a foil to Bright, and equivalence to Bright prior to Series 3. Originally, Bright was also an official who was slightly corrupt and didn't get on well with Morse. They were also pawns of much more powerful corrupt officials. Although, Bright had committed far fewer crimes than Box, and eventually became a better person, whilst Box only gained redemption at the cost of his position and presumably, his life. Although, he had survived from his wounds and now fully redeemed.
- Unlike Box, however, Bright (even before his redemption) was still a dedicated, competent and firm police leader who viewed his job as serious business and later trusted Morse and became an ally to him after Series 2's events. Box, on the other hand, was acting even more corrupt and cowardly than Bright in Series 1, and was fairly less competent.
