Rooney Faherty, more commonly referred to as Arnold, is the main antagonist of the 2016 horror-thriller novel Disappearance at Devil's Rock, written by Paul Tremblay.
Biography[]
Rooney is a manipulative man-child with an obsession of the Devil, spreading stories and telling tales about Satan. When he was only known as Arnold, he was seen drinking beer with the three thirteen year old boys of the story, hyping them up to drink more. Eventually, he brought them back to his house, and had them help him in killing his uncle by slapping and stabbing him.
In distress, the boys tried to flee, but Tommy wanted to kill Arnold to make sure he couldn't hurt them, and so he created a plan. This plan, however, inevitably failed, as Tommy was caught and killed by Arnold.
Arnold tried to hide and escape from his crimes, but was caught by the end of the novel.
Trivia[]
- The reader is meant to suspect that Arnold is a satanic figure in the first half of the novel, but it is revealed that Arnold is just a weird guy with an obsession with Satan by the end of the novel.
- Anytime Arnold is displayed, his character is always indecisive and lying. Therefore, he is an unreliable narrator, and things he says cannot be instantly wrote in as fact.
