That did not go as planned. Thousands against one. That massive grotesque tore through my forces like a shark through a shoal. We never inflicted so much as a scratch. Now it perches outside my home. The message is clear. I am to make Amalgams, and if I cross them, the Ropalolyst makes an ash cloud of this city. If my rivals find out, I'll be executed for treason. What choice do I have but to comply?
~ Alad V on his failed defense against the Ropalolyst.

The Ropalolyst is a minor antagonist in the MMO third-person shooter Warframe.

It is a massive Sentient sent to oversee and enforce Alad V's partnership with Natah, threatening to destroy him and his gas cities in the skies of Jupiter should he try to back out of their deal to make Corpus-Sentient amalgams for the Sentient army.

Appearance[]

The Ropalolyst is a gigantic, avian Sentient unlike any others of its kind. While most Sentients are vaguely humanoid in shape, the Ropalolyst has two large, stumpy upper arms that function as wings and two smaller arms at the bottom of its body. Although these could at first be mistaken for its legs, the Ropalolyst uses its "wings" to walk around while grounded and instead uses the hands on its lower appendages to grap opponents and hold onto walls and walkways in the environment. Its upper body resembles an armless humanoid torso with a crown-like head.

On its back are two large mechanical growths called "Synovia", which must be destroyed to stun it so that the arena's energy beam can hit it.

Personality[]

Extremely little is known of the Ropalolyst's personality, as it does not speak. All that is known is that it is an immensely vicious Sentient that repeatedly rampages across Alad V's facilities on Jupiter, reminding him of his new duties and the consequences for disobedience.

Biography[]

Centuries after their defeat to the Orokin Empire, the Sentients were amassing forces to wage war upon the Origin System once again. Erra and Ballas managed to return the Lotus, mother and leader of the Tenno warriors that defeated the Sentients in the Old War, to her old Sentient identity "Natah". As the Sentients in the Origin System were rendered sterile upon their arrival, they had to turn to other means of reinforcement.

To this end, Natah used her shapeshifting abilities to disguise herself as an old business parter of Alad V's called Regus, tricking Alad into signing a contract with the lure of Sentient technology for him to exploit. Ever the opportunist, Alad took the bait hook, line and sinker, believing himself to have given a senile old man a contract with dozens of legal loopholes so he can claim the Old War assets for himself. Only once the pact was made did he realize his mistake, but when he tried to bail out the Ropalolyst was sent to ensure Alad V kept his end of the bargain.

Alad V resisted, but the Ropalolyst tore through his defenses as if they weren't even there, making the stakes abundantly clear to him: make Corpus-Sentient amalgam soldiers for their armies or be destroyed. While this endeavor resulted in the creation of powerful new monstrosities, Alad was not eager to aid the Sentients in conquering or even exterminating the entire Origin System, so he secretly fed information about his new business to the Tenno. When the Tenno arrived to destroy the new amalgams, Alad V feigned ignorance. If he openly aided the Tenno, the Ropalolyst would retaliate. Its presence did not go unnoticed by the Tenno, who then made it their mission to destroy it. Alad gave them moral support while they battled it underneath his control center, as its death would give him more breathing room to find a way out of his deal.

The Ropalolyst was a mighty foe, impervious to any permanent damage the Tenno could deal to it, but luckily for them Alad's control center was equipped with a powerful energy weapon. The Tenno tricked the Ropalolyst into charging the weapon's capacitors with its own energy beasts, at which point they mounted then the Sentient beast and rammed it into one of the capacitors. With a bit more damage, this disoriented it long enough for them to strike it with the weapon. After enough punishment, the Ropalolyst was finally killed and fell into the smoldering wreckage of the arena. With its death, Natah proclaimed it a martyr for the Sentients and their cause.

Trivia[]

  • In the early trailers for The New War quest, in which the Sentient finally launch their conquest of the Origin System, an entire fleet of Ropalolysts was shown in the hangars of Praghasa. This ultimately didn't come to pass, as no Ropalolysts appeared in the actual quest, making it questionable whether or not the Ropalolyst faced in the game is the only one of its type.
  • The Mask of the Revenant quest suggests that the Ropalolyst is another fragment of the Eidolon Sentient, though far more cognizant than its brethren. Early concept art and Devstream 100 show that it was originally planned to also be fought on the Plains of Eidolon and had a variant with a piece of the Unum tower in place of its head. This idea was eventually scrapped and the Ropalolyst was repurposed for the Jupiter Gas City tileset rework.
  • The Ropalolyst is the only mission-based boss that can be seen outside of its assassination mission. It can randomly be seen flying around and destroying sections of rooms during missions on Jupiter.
