~ Rose |
Rose, better know as Butcher Rose, is the main antagonist of Borderlands 3: Bounty of Blood.
Rose is the leader of the criminal organization The Devil Riders, although the gang appears to have existed long before she became the leader. Her family has been living on Gehenna for at least three generations, and her grandma worked for Jakobs under a project of creating a biological weapon through research of "Core".
Biography[]
Rose's grandmother used to work for the Jakobs Corporation on the planet Gehenna, on the project known as "Endless Horizons." Gehenna housed a substance known as Malleus Mutatio, or "Core," a neon green crystalline-like mineral that held a surprisingly amount of versatility. As the Jakobs Corporation began experimenting with Core, they found that it would allow them to "enhance" the local flora and fauna through mutation. Using this knowledge, the Jakobs Corporation created the Belliks and the Devils, biologically enhanced fauna that would serve as living weapons. These experiments would soon lead to their apex, Interitus Regina: The Ruiner.
The Ruiner[]
Interitus Regina, or the Ruiner, was designed to be the apex of biological weaponry, a massive tortoise-like monster that would crush all in its path. Unfortunately, halfway through the project, the Jakobs Corporation scientists realized that they could not control their creations. So, when their failure became apparent, the Jakobs Corporation deiced it would be best to cut their losses. They bombed whatever they could and left, never to return. However, Rose's grandmother knew how to tame the beasts. Apparently, either by some human intervention or by some naturally occurring phenomenon, the creatures would respond to certain musical chords. Rose's grandmother passed her knowledge of these chords to daughter, and her daughter passed it down to Rose. As Rose grew up formed a deep hatred for the betrayal of her grandmother and sought to avenge her by proving her hypothesis was correct, that the Ruiner could be controlled.
Becoming the leader of the Devil Riders[]
Rose would joined a band of outlaws known as the Devil Riders, the group was curious to uncover the truth of the bombing and began to plunder all the technology they could, putting them in conflict with the residents of the town of Vestige, who wanted to leave everything behind and move on. Rose quickly killed her way up the ranks and challenged the current leader for his position, the leader accepted the duel but Rose, using the harmonic control method taught by her mother, won the challenge, causing his devil to attack him. Now in command, Rose started implemented killing on their raids, giving her the nickname "Butcher Rose".
Rose eventually learned that the stone in the center of the town of Vestige was actually the Ruiner's egg. Wishing to obtain it, Rose led many assaults on Vestige, but none of them succeeded. She grew tired of the setbacks and enlisted fellow Devil Rider, Juno "The Hatchet" to ride with her and the gang to slaughter the whole town. However, Juno had a change of heart and instead warned the town. This caused Rose put a bounty on Juno for anyone that that would or could kill her, plus a bonus if they could do it with her own hatchet.
The Sheriff eventually decided the bloodshed between the town and the Devil Riders had gone on long enough and put up a bounty. He would pay anyone who could come in and kill the Devil Riders.
