Rose Hewitt (jap. ローズ・ヒューイット, Rōzu Hyūitto) is the main antagonist of "Shinichi Kudo's New York Case". She's an actress at the Broadway Phantom Theater in New York City and the main character in the play "Golden Apple".
All the actresses had taped photos of Heath to their mirrors. Rose, on the other hand, only had photos of Heath in Archangel Michael's costume because she was in love with Heath's portrayal of Archangel Michael. After he decided to join a film role, she decided to kill him. She was involved in the major damage to the Mirror of Fortune along with Heath. She took advantage of this to devise an assassination plan using the stage machinery.
A few weeks before Ran and Shinichi arrived in metropolitan New York, Rose mailed a small package to the Broadway theater address. Inside this pack was an apple that was spray-painted with gold paint. Rose wrote "For the Fairest" in animal blood, causing confusion in the theater.
Present[]
Playing Aphrodite, the goddess of love in Greek mythology, Rose embodies the beauty of the play. In the dressing room, she's doing her make-up with her work colleagues Akane Nielsen and Lila Sanchez for the big entrance when suddenly Sharon Vineyard comes in accompanied by Yukiko, Shinichi and Ran. She seems delighted by Sharon's presence and immediately asks her many questions. Even Yukiko, whom she remembers as "Night Baronnes", isn't spared from her questions.
Then Heath Flockheart, the love of all actresses, enters the room and causes a commotion. Together with Sharon he would like to guide the guests through the renowned theatre. Ran stops on the stage and notices that the costumes are hanging from the ceiling due to lack of space. Someone cuts a thin cord, causing a large and heavy armor to fall down. Rose tries to escape, but her dress gets caught on a loose nail and her life is in danger. Ran saves Rose at the last second and falls to the ground with her. Rose thanks God with a pained face, but Sharon advises her not to because the real savior is Ran, who was able to prevent a terrible end with all his might. Rose thanks Ran and continues preparing for the play. Meanwhile, Sharon says goodbye because something important has come up.
Yukiko and Ran enjoy the play while Shinichi just braves the boredom. Rose lies in front of the large mirror that is said to bring eternal happiness to the entire crew. Heath, who embodies the archangel Michael, stands in a stage booth and waits like an angel to ascend to heaven. Shrouded in fog, Rose draws a silenced pistol hidden in her dress. She aims a laser at a small booth near the stage, causing confusion in the audience. She slips her hand inside. She exits the stage and mirror and fires an aimed bullet at Heath. To make the murder weapon disappear, she uses the heat gun on Heath's costume, which is pulled up. Still conscious, he grabs Rose's hand and smears blood on her glove. She simply turns it inward, thus hiding the resulting evidence. After the fog clears, all the actors discover the now dead Heath. Rose pretends it's a bad joke.
In the dressing room, Rose tries to open a can of water but fails because she is still wearing the glove and doesn't want to take it off. Akane offers her his hand and opens the can. With the help of his mother, Shinichi manages to solve the case by convicting Rose as the murderer and also presenting his evidence, the bullet, the glove and the photos. Before she is arrested, Rose bids Ran goodbye and thanks her for saving her life.
Trivia[]
Rose was one of many affairs Heath had during his career at the Broadway Phantom Theater. In fact, she only loved Heath because, to her, he was the perfect embodiment of Archangel Michael.
