| ~ Rosie telling Alastor that he shouldn't forget that she owns him. |
Rosie is a major character in the adult animated musical dark comedy series Hazbin Hotel. She is one of the several Overlords of Hell, powerful Sinners that gained massive power by enslaving other demons. She is the leader of Cannibal Town, a community of cannibals, as well as seemingly a close friend of fellow Overlord Alastor.
It is later revealed that Rosie is the one who owns Alastor's soul, having given him his almighty power in exchange for him following her orders, including making him stay at the Hazbin Hotel.
She is voiced by Leslie Kritzer.
Appearance[]
Rosie is a very tall and slender humanoid demoness who stands taller than Alastor, with wide hips, pale gray skin, and a mouth with black lips and sharp light pink teeth. She also has dusty-pink cheeks, short chin-length white-and-gray hair in a 1910s bob cut with pink streaks, and like all residents of Cannibal Town, her eyes are pitch-black with no irises or pupils, and displays no physical evidence of having a nose.
Rosie speaks with a New York accent.
Rosie's clothing suggests high-class fashion of the 1910s era, which consists of a large, pimped-out sun hat that is colored in a shade of maroon, with two skulls that are colored in a grayish-pink and red-pink, three dark burgundy flower-like decorations located at the brim, and large plumes which are black and pink-red respectively. In addition, her hat also includes pink frilled-trim around it, along with black lining inside.
She wears a pale maroon and pale burgundy dress which includes puffed shoulders, thin pale maroon swirly-like stripes on the high black collar, black-trimming around the waist and on the long sleeves' ruffled cuffs, and three black stripes and black trim located on the hem. Under her dress, she wears a pair of black kitten heels.
Personality[]
Rosie is a kind, charismatic, and understanding woman. sweet and benevolent, concerned for the well-being of her people. She is friendly with Alastor and Charlie, as their interactions demonstrate. She also maintains very good composure, being patient with Susan, and remains indifferent to Alastor's hostility.
However, she has a dark side, promoting cannibalism and having no problem casually offering mutilated parts as food, nor did she seem sad about the death of her partner, Franklin. Finally, she also displayed sadism by treating Alastor like her pet and mocking how he died as a human, showing herself to be callous, cruel, and mocking. She seems to have hidden sinister intentions. At the same time, her affable nature is not purely a facade. She shows clear disgust and horror at the idea of Alastor letting everyone in Hell die, proving that she on some level cares about them.
Biography[]
Backstory[]
Rosie's backstory is unknown, but it can be assumed she died and went to Hell somewhere in the 1910s by her and Cannibal Town's aesthetic. According to her own claims, she tried to eat her first husband but refused because he tasted badly. Over time, she started a cannibal empire and created a community called Cannibal Town where all the souls she owns reside.
Sometime in 1933, human serial killer Alastor made a ritual to summon Rosie, desiring to become a powerful demon in Hell where he could continue his fun of slaughter and bloodshed. She agreed, in exchange that he would assist her in helping her achieve her own goal. Just a day afterwards, Alastor would be killed by being shot dead by a hunter who mistook him for a deer.
Hazbin Hotel[]
Pilot[]
Rosie is seen in Cannibal Town after the most recent Extermination, which claimed the life of a demon called Franklin, crossing out his name from the sign of her establishment, Rosie's Emporium.
Season 1[]
Rosie is first seen in "Scrambled Eggs" in a voiceless role. She's attending the Overlord meeting alongside other Overlords, learning from Velvette that one of Heaven's angels was killed in the most recent Extermination. Unbestknown to her, it was the work of Carmilla Carmine.
She makes her first proper appearance in "Hello Rosie!", the penultimate episode. With the next Extermination coming up soon and Charlie depressed over finding out her girlfriend Vaggie was a former Exorcist, Alastor takes her over to Rosie's for help. She agrees to use her cannibals as an army to fight back against Heaven's angels, though it takes time to convince them thanks to a cranky grandma called Susan. After she and Rosie talk in private, where the latter comforts the former over her relationship issues, Charlie tries for a second time and successfully convinces the cannibals to go to war.
She appears again in the Season 1 finale, listening to Katie Killjoy's news about the cancelled Extermination.
Season 2[]
Rosie returns in "It's A Deal!", which reveals her importance to the series' story. After Alastor quits the hotel, he goes straight to Rosie to announce it. She tells him it's not his decision to make, and the two reminiscen over how they met before having a duet where Rosie taunts Alastor about how he's her "pet". Alastor leaves, furious and wanting a way to free himself.
In "Curtain Call", she is seen drinking tea while her deal with Alastor breaks, she seems shocked after it happens. Later, as everyone is destroying the Might of Lilith, Rosie appears next to Alastor, questioning why he won't help them. Alastor requests they make a deal and then he'll help, Rosie is disgusted that Alastor would let many people die, but ultimately makes the deal, she also smiles, possibly having gained some respect for him. After, Rosie and Alastor, with the latter's staff fixed from the deal, help destroy the Might of Lilith. Once destroyed, she and the other overlords agree not to mention this event ever again.
