Listen, whelp. What you call evil, we know as strength. And what was done to your people, done across the Wyldness, will soon be done to every Realm of Creation.
~ Rox to Zarkar.

Rox is one of the overarching antagonists of the Ninjago: Shatterspin comic series and Season 2, and one of the secondary antagonists of Season 3 of Ninjago: Dragons Rising.

She is a corrupted anthropomorphic wolf from the Wyldness and the Elemental Master of Fear, as well as one of the two leaders of the Forbidden Five, alongside her brother Nokt. Together with her brethren she sought to gain more power from Thunderfang in order to return to their long-lost might.

She is voiced by Emily Tennant.

Biography[]

Past[]

Rox was born in the Wyldness together with Nokt. She joined the Forbidden Five along with her brother, subsequently uniting to establish the Wolf Clan by recruiting the Wolf Warriors. They imparted their extensive knowledge of Shatterspin and Theroxian Magic by creating the Wolf Masks and the Mallet and Gong of Shattering. Unfortunately, the allure of their newfound abilities led Rox and the entire clan toward a path of darkness. As a result, Rox and the Forbidden Five unleashed widespread chaos across the Wyldness. In a moment of revelation, Nokt disclosed to Rox the extent of his brutality, having annihilated an entire tribe of tigers while leaving only one survivor. When this survivor confronted Rox and the Forbidden Five about their heinous actions, Rox contended that what others deemed as malevolence was, in fact, a manifestation of their strength, warning that all realms would soon experience the same fate as the Wyldness. However, Rox soon became aware of the Dragon Masters' arrival. Using the Rising Dragon technique, the Dragon Masters countered Shatterspin, ultimately defeating Rox and the Forbidden Five. In the aftermath, the Dragon Masters cast a powerful spell that banished Rox and the Forbidden Five to the Nether-Space.

Season 2[]

Centuries had passed, and Lord Ras devised a plan to carry out the Ritual of the Blood Moon, a crucial step in his elaborate scheme. His ultimate goal was to release the Forbidden Five from the Nether-Space and have them participate in the Tournament of the Sources. Ras aimed to harness the competitors' Elemental Powers once he emerged victorious, using them to summon the Source Dragons to the mortal realm and capture them for his master. Despite successfully freeing Nokt, the ninja's intervention disrupted Ras' efforts to release the remaining members of the Forbidden Five. However, in a surprising turn of events, Rox managed to extract her soul from her body just as the portal was about to close, allowing her to take possession of Jordana amidst the chaos.

With Rox now inhabiting Jordana's body, she and Nokt collaborated to orchestrate the escape of the remaining members of the Forbidden Five to resume their reign of terror, all the while concealing their true intentions from Ras. Their plan involved obtaining Dragon Ivory and using Elemental Powers to construct a portal to the Nether-Space. To achieve this, Nokt needed to emerge victorious in the Tournament of the Sources in order to secure the necessary Elemental Powers. In a bold move, Rox and Nokt successfully acquired the Dragon Ivory by killing three Arc Dragons for their crowns. Later hiding them in the Monastery of Gates at the City of Temples.

Still possessing Jordana, Rox accompanied Lord Ras while he intervened in a sparring session between Cinder and Nokt. She later accompanied Lord Ras and the rest of the Wolf Clan to the City of Temples for the Tournament of the Sources. During the feast the night before the games began, Jordana managed to overcome Rox's possession just long enough to ask Sora for help. But Rox quickly takes over and is found by Nokt and Cinder. Rox was about to meet with Nokt and is confronted by Sora about how she asked for help. She dismissed it as mind games and tells Nokt she doesn't think Sora is suspicious. Much to Sora's surprise, Sora ends up overhearing Nokt calling Rox her sister when she possessed Jordana after Nokt defeated Tox in the tournament. Nokt and Rox tried to storm the ninja's living quarters to kidnap Riyu and Nya. Rox showed her true colors during the victory ceremony and admitted to killing the three matriarchs and patriarchs and taking their horns. They made their way to the closest monastery, and used the elemental powers to open the nether space. Rox's physical body is freed, and she frees Jordana from possession. Rox and Nokt escaped with the remaining members frozen because of the stress.

Season 3[]

Rox and the rest destroy a truck for supplies on their way to the first realm. She and the rest stormed the village of the Dragonians, looking for where Thunderfang was imprisoned. She struck a deal to gain more power of they freed Thunderfang. They then destroyed a gem Thunderfang gave them, allowing them to fly, transform the dragonians, and allow the Dragonians to sense prismatic steel. She attacked the coastal village that Lloyd and Arin had earlier visited, defeating the merlopians and the algae farmers. She found the blade in the crabs tooth, which she smashed and retrieved the green blade. She used it to cut one of Thunderfang's chains. When she found out Zarkt failed, she proclaimed that they would become the forbidden four if his failure continued. Since the one Kur found was broken, she went to New Djinjago to get Arrakore to fix it. Arrakore refused when she demanded her. Arrakore teleported away and taunted her by saying that the Ninjago could easily defeat her. Rox said that she wished they were here so they could get destroyed. Arrakore uses this to teleport Nya and Sora, the two ninja she knew. Sora used a wish to trap Rox's feet to the ground, but she freed herself using shatterspin. She snuck up behind Arrakore and trapped him in the timepiece. Rox froze the, made them bow, and was about to finish them when Sora used her powers to destroy the timepiece. Arrakore escaped, but not before the blade was repaired. She cut another blade, but this time yellow instead of green. Rox starts fighting Lloyd, but when she sees Nokt fighting Ras, she yells at him to to focus on the plan. She then kicks Arin into the chaos tornado when he is trying to save Ras. Thunderfang then absorbed her soul, defeating her.

Personality[]

Rox, like the rest of the Forbidden Five, is an evil being. She appears to be quite merciless, as shown when she mocked Ras' ancestor, Zarkar, and his fate and talked about the Five's plan of conquering the Realms and subjugating or destroying people. Rox also seems to be smart, as during the Ritual of the Blood Moon, when Bonzle managed to resist Jordana long enough to shut the gate, she transferred her soul into Jordana's body, knowing she wouldn't be able to cross the Portal with her whole body. After freeing the latter from her possession, she doesn't seem to care about what happens to her former host and leaves her barely conscious for a few seconds before returning to her own body. She also cares about the rest of the Five, checking on them while they were unconscious after being suddenly pulled out from the Nether-Space.

Like her brother Rox's arrogance is also her undoing, as after capturing Arrakore, which is even pointed out by Rox herself, she could of wish for the Ninja's doom or accept her victory and leave but chose to have Arrakore force the Ninja to admit the Five are superior, which gave Sora the opportunity to use her Technology to break Arrakore out and ended up leaving.
