The Royal Flush Gang is the legacy name of three villain groups in the DC Animated Universe.

History[]

Joker's Royal Flush Gang[]

The first iteration of the Royal Flush Gang (chronologically speaking) was introduced in the Justice League episode "Wild Cards". The group consisted of five metahuman teenagers the US government illegally conducted experiments on and trained to become human weapons. It is later revealed that they had been recruited by Amanda Waller, as part of Project Cadmus.

The teens were set free when the Joker broke into Section 12 in the Arizona desert to use as his personal muscle and dubbed them the Royal Flush Gang due to his use of playing cards. Each member of the gang possessed a unique ability; (Ten, who felt no pain and had invulnerability, Jack, who could stretch his body to long lengths, King, a pyrokinetic, Queen, who could control and manipulate any form of metal, and Ace, a silent girl with the power to induce madness just by looking at people).

On Joker's orders the gang had held all off Las Vegas hostage with several timer bombs planted across the Vegas strip. But the Justice League intervened and stopped them from destroying the city. However, Joker reveals the entire ordeal was actually to get as much media attention as possible so he could use Ace's powers to drive every viewer watching insane. Though his plan nearly succeeds, Batman manages to thwart him by turning Ace against him and Joker is rendered catatonic by Ace's powers. Ace disappears while the rest of the Royal Flush Gang are presumably arrested.

Ace's Royal Flush Gang[]

A new incarnation of the Royal Flush Gang was established years later with the young Ace as their leader whose powers had evolved beyond causing hallucinations to being able to alter the very fabric of reality with her mind. Ace had used this new found ability to give four average civilians powers of their own so that she wouldn't be alone, though they paid little attention to her.

The Walker Family[]

At some point in time, Batman fought an incarnation of the gang where he imprisoned the gang's, "King". The Jack of this gang had an affair with the King's daughter Donna who he would come to marry after the King's disposal. Together, they ruled the spade faction of the Royal Flush Gang with the Jack as King and Donna as Queen.

By the time Terry McGinnis is Batman, the new Royal Flush Gang (or Walker family) was also made up of King and Queen's children Melanie and Jack Walker as Ten and Jack respectively. They also had an android named Ace act as their muscle.

The gang returned to Gotham City in-order to become enemies of the new Batman, out of vengeance for their losses at the original. The Royal Flush gang would become regular enemies of Batman, with Melanie even becoming an on-again off-again love-interest of Terry's, mirroring Bruce's relationship with Catwoman.

Trivia[]

The members of Joker's gang all share voice actors with the Teen Titans: 10 with Cyborg, Jack with Beast Boy, Queen with Raven, King with Robin, and Ace with Starfire.
Much like in the comics. the Royal Flush Gang started off as enemies of the Justice League, then became solely enemies of Batman, although the Walker version debuted in Batman Beyond years before the first iteration appeared in the Justice League animated series on Cartoon Network.
