Ruby Fox-Milligan is fictional character and major protagonist of the long-running ITV British soap opera Emmerdale, having debuted on 25th January 2024.

In her characterisation, Ruby is the estranged wife of Caleb Miligan as well as the mother of their children Nicky and Steph - thereby making her an in-law member of both the Dingle and Tate families respectively. She is also the estranged daughter of Anthony Fox, and it is later revealed that she had been sexually abused by her father in the past; this consequently led to the subsequent revelation Anthony had in fact fathered Ruby's daughter Steph as a result of Ruby's rape ordeal.

She is portrayed by Beth Cordingly.

Biography[]

Ruby Fox Milligan arrived in the village on January 2024. Since then she caused chaos by ruffling the feathers of fellow villagers such as Tracy Robinson, Moira Dingle, Nate Robinson and her brother in law Cain Dingle. But it was in May 2024 when she embarked in a heated grudge with Ethan Anderson where she would her worst. After Ethan had been drink driving with Nicky causing them to crash, Ethan left Nicky for dead at the crash sight. This rightfully made Ruby along with Caleb and Cain out for Ethan's blood which led to a deadly turn of events with Ruby running Ethan over with her own car and this time leaving him for dead. Ethan would make it out of the day alive however he would still find himself being threatened by the ruthless Ruby. A few days later Ethan overheard Ruby and Rose Jackson discussing a plan to take down Kim Tate and steal Home Farm estate from her but before he could tell anybody and get his own back he would collapse at home and die. However, it later turned out that he died from a brain aneurysm similar to his grandfather, making Ruby not responsible.

Months later, Ruby is happy when she and Caleb are reunited with their daughter Steph no sooner after his business partnership with Cain's former love rival Jai Sharma collapses. As such Ruby supports Steph's relationship with bad boy Ross Barton despite Caleb's reservations about it. But then Ruby becomes unnerved when her father, Anthony Fox, arrives after Steph invited him to stay over with them.

In 2025, it is revealed that Steph had been sexually abused by her father in the past. She later becomes terrified when it comes to her mind that Caleb may not be Steph's biological father and thus decides to do a DNA test to find out about Steph's true parentage. In the end, Ruby's worst fears are confirmed when the DNA test shows that Caleb is not Steph's biological father and that her one-time boyfriend Rob Harris was never a suspect as well - thereby confirming that Anthony is not only Steph's grandfather but actually her biological father as well due to Ruby's rape ordeal.

A few days later, Caleb finds out the truth about Ruby's rape and Steph's true parentage after his half-sister Chas Dingle witnesses a confrontation between him and Rob. She listens to Rob telling Caleb about Ruby's problems with her father and this causes Chas to realize the truth, as her son Aaron had been sexually abused by his father Gordon Livesy in the past. Chas then tells Caleb about this and he in turn comforts Ruby over her ordeal.
