NOTE: This is the villainous incarnation of Runa Urumi, before her redemption.

I just want a little freedom. More specifically, I want to go on the internet. I don't need to be able to use my mic. I just want to read the net normally.
~ Urumi to Sorawo Kamikoshi in Volume 6 of the light novel.

Runa Urumi (ウル ミルナ Urumi Runa) is the main antagonist of Otherside Picnic's File 11: The Whispered Voice Requires Self-Responsibility.

A mysterious live-streamer since middle school with a twisted fascination for mass-brainwashing, Urumi is a cult leader of her unnamed cult. She possesses the power of the "Voice", which allows her to brainwash her victims, after obtaining it from the mysterious ASMR video known as the "Blue World" via a livestream. She and her cultists are the devout followers of Satsuki Uruma, before their subsequent imprisonment.

Urumi and her cultists later orchestrate a plan to kidnap Sorawo and Toriko, whom she instead kidnapped Kozakura for the latter. However, her plans would be foiled by the DS Lab director Yoichiro Migiwa, as well as Toriko, thus causing the rest of her cultists and her subsequently getting imprisoned.

She later redeems herself in Chapter 6, and becomes an anti-heroic character, where she joins in with Sorawo, Toriko, Kozakura, and Migiwa, when she is enlisted by the former in Volume 7 in a funeral operation, as means to encounter Uruma.

Appearance[]

Wearing a cardigan and a sailor outfit, Urumi resembles a high school girl. Her hair was long and braided on the sides of her head before flowing down her back in circles.

Since Volume 6, Urumi has two stitches on both sides of her cheeks.

Personality[]

Urumi exudes confidence and pride, and her enticing voice is one of her indisputable attributes because of the ability she received from the Otherside, yet Sorawo notes she has a stutter.

Her obsession with Uruma runs throughout the light novels, despite the fact that she has never met her and would do anything for her, where it often borders to insanity. During the events of File 11, Volume 3, she went so far as to organise a cult, which she refers to as her admirers, abduct Kozakura and Sorawo (the cultists mistake her for Toriko), and assault the DS Lab with her cultists.

Urumi is a person who is buried beneath layers of her own guilt, which is a result of her neglected family life, despite her aggressive behaviour. She had experienced serious psychological trauma, as seen in File 22: Toilet Paper Moon, when it was revealed that her mother had become an obsessive religious fanatic and had been devoted to Uruma before she passed away, adding to the issues with her father and her family as a whole.

As a result, Urumi would go into a meltdown whenever her family's difficult history was brought up, to the point where she once yelled at Sorawo for doing so.

Background[]

Past[]

More information regarding her past is scarce. Urumi, on the other hand, reveals that she came from a very dysfunctional family who were heavily in debt when she was born. Things would get worse as her mother turned into a religious zealot, grew more estranged from Urumi, and began to idolise Uruma.

Her father would also have difficulties of his own, making the problem even worse. It is believed that Urumi had trauma when her mother passed away and harboured reviling resentment toward her for not caring about her own pain.

Despite her best attempts of seeking for attention, whom she often failed, Urumi has been a streamer since she was in middle school. While watching ASMR videos, she came upon a video titled "Blue World" just as she was ready to give up.

Urumi claimed to have seen Uruma appear in the video and given her a gift from the Blue World that allowed her to brainwash people and make them do her bidding. She fell enamoured with Uruma in a very twisted way and believed that her life was destined to be spent worshipping her.

Attack of the DS Lab[]

Later using her "Voice" ability to entice unsuspecting people through one of her livestreams, Ururmi would later form a cult that was dedicated to Satsuki Uruma in a more twisted obsession to satisfy her delusions of grandeur, where she later brainwashed several people for her bidding. She plans to target Sorawo, Kozakura, and Toriko, as well as Migiwa inside the DS Lab.

She and her cultists would later attack the DS Lab, who planned to target both Sorawo and Toriko, as well as Kozakura and Migiwa. While Migiwa was able to escape, Urumi and the cult were able to kidnap both Sorawo and Kozakura. However, one such part of the plan partially failed, as they took Kozakura instead of Toriko, whom they mistake her.

A Plan Falling Apart[]

Meanwhile, After news of Sorawo and Kozakura's abduction was revealed, Toriko and later Migiwa and the DS Lab members would make a move to stop Urumi's cultists and herself. The plan was considered to be successful, as Toriko would save Sorawo and Kozakura, albeit mentally broken, from Urumi's captivity, while Migiwa would arrest Urumi and her cultists for questioning.

Redeeming Herself[]

Sometime after her arrest, in Volume 6, it is revealed that Urumi later had two stitches in her face. In the process, however, due to the alluring effects of her ability "Voice" by simply talking to anyone, she was seen conversing in a written form in front of Sorawo, who asked her if she wanted to be friends with her, in spite of his past actions, to which Sorawo reluctantly agreed.

Funeral of the Moon[]

in Volume 7, Urumi would subsequently take part in Sorawo's funeral operation assignment to deal with Satsuki Uruma, who had been pursuing both Toriko and her ever since. But when Uruma appeared, Urumi became enraged at her for being the reason for her mother's passing and the primary factor in Urumi's spiral into madness. But as she continued to shout in front of the spirit, she later collapsed.

Abilities[]

  • "Voice" - Urumi is able to brainwash a group of people through the Voice, to which she obtained after watching "Blue World" through a livestream. She later uses it to create a cult devoted to Uruma and target Sorawo and Toriko. Due to its alluring nature, after her redemption, it can brainwash anyone close to her, as when she attempted to write her thoughts during one of her conversations with Sorawo.
