Biography[]
Sequid Brainwashing[]
Rus Livingston was one of the 5 NASA astronauts selected to journey to Mars on the inaugural flight of a new long-range space shuttle. The mission was hastily arranged after an alien invasion and the revelation of Omni-Man's extraterrestrial origins, designed to ease public fear about Earth's vulnerability to alien threats. However, the astronauts were unaware that their mission was largely a public relations move, nor did they know that Invincible had been sent to ensure their safety.
Upon landing on Mars, the astronauts were immediately captured by the Martians. The Martian Monarch explained that the astronauts' presence posed a danger to their society. Martians and their shape-shifting abilities had long been protected from parasitic aliens known as Sequids. However, a single solid host could allow the Sequids to develop a collective consciousness, turning them from mindless creatures into a formidable force. Because of this threat, the Martians planned to execute Rus and his crew.
Before the executions could take place, Invincible intervened, rescuing the astronauts, while he distracted the Martians, the crew fled to their ship and blasted off, seemingly returning to Earth. Unbeknownst to the others, however, Rus had been replaced by a Martian during the escape. The Martian rebel movement, seeking to overthrow their corrupt monarch and free the enslaved Sequids, sacrificed Rus by making him the host for the Sequids.
The Martian who took Rus’s place returned to Earth, living as Rus Livingston. Soon, the shape-shifting alien ruined Rus's career, and he eventually reinvented himself as a superhero named "Shapesmith." Meanwhile, Rus's true fate was far darker. He was left behind on Mars and became the host for the Sequids, who used him as a vessel for their rage, the fury of a race enslaved for centuries.
Death[]
His mind and body became overwhelmed by the parasites, leading to his death as he was consumed by the Sequids. In the end, Rus Livingston's life was sacrificed for the Martian rebel cause, and his body was no longer his own.
Trivia[]
- Rus is the first ever human to be infected by the Sequids.
