Russ Langmore is the secondary antagonist of Season 1 of Ozark. He is a redneck criminal living in the Ozarks who gets tangled up in the affairs of Marty Byrde.
Biography[]
Russ Langmore makes his first appearance huddled with his sons Wyatt and Three, brother Boyd and niece Ruth in a filthy outback restroom stall. Wyatt and Ruth had stolen $3 million from crooked businessman Marty Byrde. When Marty barges into their meeting, Russ pulls out a pistol and holds him at gunpoint. Marty calmly explains that he is laundering the money for drug lord Omar Navarro and that they won't find any practical use for the cash anyway. The Langmores take $20,000 of the cash and return the rest back to Marty. Russ and Boyd invest the money into whiskey, fireworks and exotic pets, much to Ruth's frustration.
Russ then meets a man named Robert Powell, who quickly becomes his fishing partner. Their friendship comes to an end when Robert kisses him in the car, Russ responding by calling him homophobic slurs and kicking him out. Russ then confronts Robert at his home, at first to threaten him, but he then kisses him and the two start a romantic relationship.
Under orders from her father Cade Langmore, Ruth attempts to kill Marty by electrifying the dock ladder near his home, but Russ gives in to Robert and the latter disables the trap. Robert then pressures Russ into promising never to try to kill Marty again.
"Robert" reveals that his true identity is FBI agent Roy Petty and reveals that he recorded his confession, forcing Russ to work as an informant. Russ tries to get Ruth to say something incriminating, but she blows off his attempts.
Russ schemes with his brother Boyd to rob and kill Marty (and likely his family) and run away from the Cartel and FBI with the boys. However, Ruth, who had grown to like Marty, rigs the dock again. When Russ pulls up to the dock on the boat and grabs ahold of the ladder, he is fatally electrocuted, as is Boyd when he grabs him.
While dead, Russ still leaves an impact. A grieving Wyatt regularly hallucinates having conversations with him and his respect for Ruth is destroyed when she confesses to his murder.
