Dr. Margaret Vogler, also known as Ruth Conway, is the secondary antagonist in the 2024 spy action thriller comedy film Argylle, a spin-off to the Kingsman franchise.
She was portrayed by Catherine O’Hara, who also played Duchess Rowena in Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses, Shock in The Nightmare Before Christmas, Ludmilla in Bartok the Magnificent, the Maid in Dust Buddies, Kaossandra in Skylanders Academy, Mrs Prysselius in Pippi Longstocking and Dr Georgina Orwell in A Series of Unfortunate Events.
Biography[]
Ruth is first seen when Elly Conway gets a video call from her. Ruth tells her that she has just finished reading the script for the fifth Argylle book and tells her that she thinks it deserves another chapter. Elly listens to her “mother” and starts writing a final chapter for the book.
She is next seen when Elly calls her mother in a telephone booth after she overhears Aidan saying that “Elly Conway should get a bullet in her head”. Elly tells her that they are in England so Ruth and Barry, Ellys ‘Dad’ book flights to England straight away.
When they arrive in England, Elly visits their apartment and tells them everything. Ruth and Barry are both initially sceptically of what Elly is telling them, and Ruth even asks Elly if she has taken any drugs. Soon after, Aidan arrives and tells Elly that Ruth and Barry aren’t who they say they are. They are actually the leaders of the mysterious organisation known as The Division and puts a gun to Barry’s head. At first, Elly doesn’t believe him but when Ruth puts a gun at Ellys head she soon realises that Aidan is right. Barry is actually Ritter, the leader of The Division, and Ruth is actually a British doctor called Dr Margaret Vogler. Aidan and Elly quickly escape after they knock Ritter and Ruth out and escape to France.
There, it is revealed by Aidan and Alfred Solomon, the former CIA deputy director, that Elly is in fact Rachel Kylle (R. Kylle = Argylle), who worked for the Division and was sent to hospital after a fall. There, she was captured and brainwashed by Dr Margaret Vogler (Ruth) and Director Ritter (Barry) and made to believe they were her parents; Elly put her suppressed memories into the Argylle books, with Aidan being one of the characters and Alfred (Alfie) being the name of her cat. In the latest Argylle book, Elly was going to reveal where the Masterkey was before her cover was blown.
Ruth is next seen in Arabia after she corners Elly and Aidan after they find the Masterkey. They are knocked out and are sent to The Divisions headquarters on an ocean liner. She is next seen in the control room with Ritter and Elly, and Ritter tells her that Elly was actually a double agent and was one of the best soldiers working for The Division. He tells her that Aidan is getting interrogated to try and find out where the Masterkey is. Elly offers to interoogate him for them, in which she subsequently shoots him.
After Elly betrays the Division and sends Alfred Solomon the Masterkey, she and a surviving Aidan kill the Divisions soldiers and Ellys cat eventually kills Ritter. Ruth then uses a mental trigger code on a music box to turn Elly on Aidan. They fight until Ruth is killed by Keira, a former CIA agent.
