Ruth Harker is the secondary antagonist of the 2024 crime horror film Longlegs.
She is the mother of FBI Agent Lee Harker who is later revealed to be an accomplice of the Satanic serial killer Longlegs; the latter had promised to spare her daughter if Ruth helped him murder entire families in the name of Satan.
She was portrayed by Alicia Witt, who also played Paula in The Walking Dead and Dana Powell in Elementary.
Appearance[]
Ruth is an older woman with long aging brown wispy hair. She has a generally unstable like appearance with a more red eyelids, matching her appearance of being seemingly insane.
She is seen in flashback scenes to 1974 with curled brown hair.
Personality[]
At first glance, Ruth seems like a normal, albeit troubled, woman who genuinely cares about her daughter. The two appear to have a healthy relationship, with Ruth being protective of Lee by warning her about the dangers of this case. She also appears to be a bit atheist, considering that she says that the prayers do nothing for them, despite her asking Lee if she said them every time they talk on the phone. Although, from later revelation, she was unlikely an atheist, rather she held no faith in God actually providing protection or care.
However, it’s soon revealed that after Longlegs invaded her home and threatened her daughter, Ruth became his accomplice by delivering the demonic dolls to the houses of his victims. When she first began, she was hesitant and regretful as she threw up after his first crime. Over time however, she began to carry it out more willingly due to her desire to protect Lee from both Cobble and Satan.
Even after Kobble was arrested and killed himself in custody, she went through with the final sacrifice hoping to appease Satan to spare them both. This shows that the years of being Kobble’s puppet had twisted her mind and destroyed her morality.
