Biography[]
Season 3[]
Ryan makes his first appearance reporting on Natalie Engler's disappearance. He is later revealed to be the ex-boyfriend of Marienne Bellamy, a local librarian. They were both addicts, but Ryan seemingly recovered and then broke up with Marienne. He has since been lying to paint Marienne in a poor light in order to attain full custody of their daughter Juliette.
Marienne's colleague Joe Goldberg confronts Ryan as he harasses Marienne at the library and orders him out, which angers Marienne. Joe eventually begins an affair with Marienne, who confides in him about Ryan's manipulations. Joe attempts to sabotage Ryan by spiking drugs into his drinks, but learns that Ryan is already taking them.
Ryan even goes as far as to leak nude photos of Marienne to ruin her burgeoning career as an illustrator. He ultimately attains full custody of Juliette and plans to move to New Jersey.
Deciding that Ryan needs to die, Joe attempts to ambush him at a multi-story car park next to his yoga studio, but Ryan creeps up on him and attacks him first, beating him up and leaving him on the ground as he walks to his car. Enraged, Joe charges at him and shoves him off the balcony. Ryan survives the fall but is paralysed and unable to get up or yell for help. Ryan futilely reaches for the knife, but Joe hurries down and grabs it first. Ryan defiantly tells Joe that he doesn't have what it takes to kill someone, but is proven very wrong when Joe stabs him to death.
